          Mia, the guy looks like a walking Ralph Steadman cartoon. Listening is the better choice.

       My opinion; McCain should give the speech he wanted to give eight years ago. He has to get some U-S-A! going, and lie to the pro-lifers again. But he should also challenge Barry for the vision. He wants government to work right. He hates waste and abuse, and figures one good way to save money is to not throw it away.

        He doesn't have to make any lefties like him, just get the middle to trust him.

I thought Palin's speach certainly fired up the Republicans, but it was not really "her" speach since it was written by others and adapted to her after she was picked as McCain's VP. Her delivery was good, but the speach was filled with only two things...praise for McCain for his POW status, and a lot of sarcasm and rhetoric towards Obama and the Democrats, but I guess that is just to be expected. Oh...there were her half-truths as well, like her tale about the bridge to nowhere.

Seeing the faces of some of the audience and their rapture for what she was saying made me wonder how so many villages could be missing their idiots.

That is true. I never denied it. The thread is about "her" speach, though, and though she did deliver it well it still wasn't exactly "her" speach since she was repeating what other's had wrote. Let's see what she has to say when it is her own words.

The difference there is that Obama's wife is not working on the North Slope, or anywhere else that I know of, and so she will be availbale to take care of the kids while Obama is involved elsewhere.

You are making a sexist arguement in a few different ways.... one you are saying only a woman can take care of children. Second you are saying that women should not be able to take high positions if she has a family. Those positions are sexist.

Okay, first of all, I was a single parent so I didn't have a husband around to help me out. I worked two jobs and put myself through college and still raised productive, amazing kids into their adulthood .. because, guess what, parents can have other support systems besides spouses in place - people like grandparents, nannies, nurses, aunts, uncles, friends etc. I can't believe this neanderthal thinking still exists in this day and age. I don't like Palins policy or style but the fact that she's a woman and a mother has nothing to do with her ability or capability to effectively support this country in whatever manner she may choose to pursue ... including VP.

We're in the 21st Century here .. feel free to join us when you're ready.

God forbid something happened to Michelle Obama and Barrak had to raise his kids without her .. should he drop out of the race because of it?

Mia - You asked for our personal observations, so here they are. I thought her speech was:

- dripping with venom, condescension and cheap shots: nothing positive, everything aimed at her opponents;
- where McCain has political class, I thought Palin had the delivery of someone who'd learnt their lines well, and nothing else;
- the grand final with her family paraded once more in front of the crowds, this time with the poor sap who got her daughter pregnant on display... in my opinion, indecent;
- at the same time, there was something reminiscent of the ex Soviet Union in the whole affair. Probably because it was all scripted, with no spontaneity whatsoever.
