OK... we have to be careful but I think we can do it. Those posters of a political bent know what skit we are talking about and if you are a reader, probably best to ask questions off forum.

That said....

When the network fires and shakes up some on the SNL staff, one question remains, how did it get on in the first place???  Also... does this, the controversy, one go away easily???  Something tells me no. There are just some things that just don't belong in the mainstream for a reason.
BTW... just for the record, I thought the satire and point were funny even as I cringed at the subject matter given knowing the subject and the political storm to follow. I felt the same about the Obama New Yorker Cover but this firestorm may not be as easily doused

kittinSol -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 2:45:26 PM)

What's the problem? I thought you guys had a great sense of humour and that you could laugh at pretty much everything.

DomKen -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 3:34:52 PM)

If NBC fires any SNL staff over this I will be th efirst to call them cowards for caving in to whiny pieces of shit who manufactured a controversy out of a bad joke.

That you are seeking to stir stuff up about this just confirms my opinion of you.

Sanity -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 4:24:38 PM)

It was a controversial "joke" to begin with, wouldn't you say?

You seem awfully upset about this thread. Why is that exactly... are there certain topics of discussion that you think should be strictly forbidden, such as this obvious Liberal media bias?

I thought Tina and Amy did brilliantly, and thought the skit was funny as hell.

kittinSol -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 5:43:19 PM)

Are you denying that McCain is running a dirty campaign?

Are you arguing against the right of a television program to make fun of this?

Should they curtail their sense of humour just to placate the delicate sensitivities of the conservative public?

Is the conservative public that humourless that they can only laugh at jokes that are directed at others than themselves?

What is the point of this thread, if not to create a fake controversy and stir up partisan sentiment? Can't we laugh about it too?

And finally... you have a sense of humour bypass.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 5:50:34 PM)

FDD that skit offended you.....the point that the skit worked offends me...it works because it holds a mirror up to the way the Republicans do business and you get a sot of fun-house reflection of reality....that offends me!!

Sanity -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 6:02:04 PM)

You're thinking of the wrong skit. The one being discussed cannot be discussed... if that makes any sense. We're talking around it, instead of about it.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 6:12:19 PM)

I have a hard time discussing things,that can't be discussed...I'm good but I'm not that good....just sayin....

slaveboyforyou -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 6:38:27 PM)

Honestly FDD, I don't know what skit you're talking about.  I haven't watched SNL since Chris Farley was on it.  I haven't found it funny in 10 years.  It has nothing to do with politics; the show is just tired and boring.

That wasn't the skit being discussed.  It was the supposed "jab" at the NY Times, and the content in which they decided to use to "jab" at the NY Times.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 6:44:53 PM)

AHHHH.....That one wasn't so funny....can't recall being offended tho...

So the accusations that were made, even in satire, knowing them to be totally *without basis, wouldn't offend you.  What if the same accusations, again, completely in satire were made against Obama.  Would you still not be offended?

           I might have watched twice in the last 15 years.  Got a link to this amazing/awful bit of free speech, Fats?

In short NO...key word in your post...satire.....It is Saturday Night Live...by definition a skit driven comedy show...totally" without basis" is  one of the ways in which they get laughs...the only problem with the skit...it wan't funny enough..and that, after all is the criteria by which they are measured..

NBC has been pulling it wherever it's been posted, but you can read about it here.

corysub -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 6:56:15 PM)

Who cares about an SNL skit?  I mean I don't think anyone would be swayed to vote for an inexperienced guy like Obama because of a skit but it gives the liberal democrats something to chuckle about and maybe put a muche needed smile on their faces.  Think about it, the liberal democrat message is one of America in dispair, worst economy since the depression, The "rich are getting richer"...and on and on....it's all they know, and I have listening to their "sound and fury" for a long time..it never changes...they just hate their lives almost as much as they hate George Bush.  All of them feel they are so much smarter than the rest of the "great unwashed", no better than us what is good for us, and yet are mostly parodied as being in some west side roach infested apartment in Manhattan.

The fact tha SNL is slanted to the left is shocking to no one who has seen the obvious leftist slant of "The View","Hardball", Wolf Blitze, the "Contessa", Gregory, and on, and on.  The way the "swooned over Obama and Clinton on the View was nausaeating to those of us not of the leftist persuasion ,and I think great in the way it energizes the base of support for the McCain/Palin ticket.   McCain/Palin were in Media Pennsylvania today and the crowds were unbeliveable...and they didn't have a rock group as an opening act.  The curtain is coming down on Obama and the only thing left for him is to throw Biden under a bus and bring in Hillary.  And Hillary would be insane to help Obama since she would be top dog of the democrat party after an Obama defeat in November.

Well call me crazy... but even in Satire.. I don't think the subject of incest is something that should be used AT ALL.  But then again.... call me crazy, but counseling young women who've become impregnated through incest tends to leave that kind of impression.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 6:59:47 PM)

Heretic,

It's been pulled from the net. I imagine there will be boot legs but you cannot find it today.

kittinSol -> RE: The Skit (9/22/2008 7:01:14 PM)

Hadn't heard about it till your thread, thanks to those posters who kindly enlightened me... and so... thanks for briging to my attention what amounts to high school playground humour, FatDad. You ensured propagation of the bad joke specie. Still... first amendment and all that - if'it's okay for Limbaugh to make fun of Parkinson's disease... then what should be the problem [:(] ?
