Well I watched it, and I tried to be objective.  I think Obama did pretty good at the beginning when they were debating the economy.  I don't agree with Obama's views, but he did pretty good explaining himself.  McCain seemed nervous when he was discussing the economy.  However when they got to foreign policy, McCain did a lot better.  McCain opened up his A-game and really came into his own.  It was obvious McCain is much more knowledgeable in that area.  I also think McCain did a lot better with talking about himself and his experiences.  Obama only talked about himself a couple of times.  The anecdote he gave about his father's educational aspirations was weak and didn't sound convincing.

slaveboy? so you support the 500 year war along with McCain?
Has anyone seen Bin Laden lately?
What is he up to?

MissSCD -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 7:59:17 PM)

I can tell you how I feel about the debate.   It is going to come down to a personality contest.   I was not impressed with either of them that much.  I leaned towards Obama because he really presented himself well.
My personal opinion on McCain is just that personal.  I cannot stand to look at him.
If we go with McCain, we are going to be more broke than we are.  If we go with Barrack, I just don't know.
The way I am looking at it is I could not take four years of McCain.   He kept referring to Eisenhower who has been gone years ago.  We need fresh blood.
Why does McCain talk down to Obama?  Obama talks directly to McCain.   I have a problem with that.
I watched it on NBC.   I have always watched NBC.  The next debate will be much better because Tom Brokaw is going to host it.

Regards, MissSCD
I am voting for Obama.

MzMia, McCain was practical about Iraq.  We are there, and that can't be changed now.  We have to finish what we started, and you can't set a time table on it.  As far as Bin Laden, the cocksucker is hiding out in a hut somewhere in northwest Pakistan.  I hope we catch or kill him someday, but it won't solve the situation.  When we locked up Al Capone, the mob didn't disappear from Chicago.

Yeah, I could see where John is gonna get a little hinky about the economy.

And there is no question that an appeal to emotions is why the movie industry will never really fail.

So, the anecdotes about some stupid shit that happened 35 years ago and how it built your character, like racing cockroaches across the cell, have great import.

I don't see talking about your experience as an appeal to emotion.  When you go to a job interview, you talk about your experience.  Obama doesn't have any to talk about; McCain does.  I don't see his experiences as "stupid shit" either.  [>:]

NeedToUseYou -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:06:28 PM)

Watched it, what I expected, no digging, no prodding really, just lame Obama won on the economy front, don't agree with him, but he won that part of the debate, McCain is a self-admitted Economic idiot. However, McCain, came off as more knowledgeable about Foreign Policy and history.

It didn't change my opinion of either really. They should have stayed in Washington.

Now, if they let me ask all the questions in a debate, now that would be worth while.

What would you ask?

I actually thought Lehrer asked decent questions; they just didn't always get answered.

it's all politcal showboating and doesn't mean anything...just my opinion.

chiaThePet -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:10:52 PM)

I just keep going back to how Obama pronounces "Taliban".

Reminds me of Ricky Ricardo doing a number at the club for Lucy.

"Taliban ban, Taliban, Taliban ban, Taliban."  "Oh Riiiiiiicky".

Yeah I know I know, I'll blame my ADD.

Imagine that, the future leader of our beloved country is in my hands.

"Oh Taliban ban, Taliban."

slaveboy? we all know McCain = Bush.
Bush's approval rating is about 10 these days, he will go down
as one of the worse President's in history.
We should vote for 4 more years of the same shit?

PBS is overall pretty fair, regardless of what the Rushheads say.  You are just gonna hear whatever is, poor Jim got run over by them guys as a moderator. So, we saw real.

LOL.

         To the OP;

Mia, I plopped my butt in front of the TV, and watched every minute of it (and loved that movie, by the way).

Sorry.  Obama got beat.  The image that struck me hardest was when he tried to counter McCain that he had a bracelet with a KIA's name on it, then stammered, and HAD TO LOOK to say that soldiers name.  Trust me, if you missed it, that video will be all over YouTube tomorrow.

     The smirking wasn't good either.

There is more, but the night is young.

kittinSol -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:19:49 PM)

See how diverse opinions can be? What you saw as smirking, I saw as smiling (sometimes, I think, of disbelief). On the other hand, I noticed McCain's sneering and restlessness. Body language says a lot, that is true.

NumberSix -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:21:29 PM)

LOL, Rich.

I can see the headlines in the liberal news media tomorrow.  Hussein Obama loses by a smirk.  The talking heads will be going, no, no, no...it was a wry face.

Have you wrote or called  the president (as you avowed you would) that he should be congratulated for his deep insight in solving the carbon based enegy crisis through raising the cost of energy?

it's gonna be a fuckin' rout, rich.

Didn't Nixon lose by a shave?

You might be right about the rout part, though.... [;)]

bipolarber -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:26:36 PM)

The one moment that really struck me:

McCain: "We've got to hire professional interrogators, so that this country never, ever has to torture a prisoner again!"

As far as I can tell, this is the first time a republican has actually admitted that we've tortured the people we've held.

Rich, I actually LIKE McCain a lot more than Bush.
I respect McCain's service to our country and as a POW.
Old dude is sort of cool.
But, Obama is on point and is much better suited to be our President.
McCain is not bad, it's just Obama is better.
