Hussein Obama loses by a smirk.

Didn't Nixon lose by a shave?

You might be right about the rout part, though.... [;)]

LOL, Rich.........the biggest laugh I ever had out of politics was when Big George lost and (Karl Rove or someone said) son of a bitch, if we hadn't lost 400,000 jobs in the month leading up to the election, we woulda wiped Clintons ass all over the map.

DomKen -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:35:06 PM)

McCain was on the verge of losing his temper all night long. Not looking at someone when they speak is a well known tactic taught in anger management classes to keep your emotions in check. Then when Obama listed all the various wrong statements McCain made about Iraq McCain's response was through a tightly controlled jaw and he lost all facial movement above his lips. Pretty clear indications that he was on the verge of losing it right there. Not the sort of emotional stability I want in a man with control of nukes and power over people's lives.

I would assume that Obama's staff saw precisely what I saw and the next two debates will include Obama pushing McCain hard so as to let us all see McCain's infamous temper.

McCain will go down as having lost the campaign when he does lose it on national TV in a few weeks but his shot really ended when he almost lost control during this debate. It's really too bad since its likely his anger issues are PTSD and he, as do so many of our brothers in arms, needs good treatment for what his service did to his mind as well as his body.

TheHeretic -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:42:45 PM)

Wishful thinking, Ken (though I'll give you McC's history of raising his voice).  And much could be made of Obama's facial expressions throughout tonight's event as well.  It looked like he was ready to snap a little, a few times.  We don't really know his history with that, do we?

Not wishful thinking on my part. I would much prefer if McCain was healthy mentally and physically and this election was determined by ideas not other issues but the simple fact is that it has long been suspected that he has PTSD and if he loses his temper as easily as he did tonight many people will take that as an indication that he is unfit to be president.

TheHeretic -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:54:04 PM)

You're assuming facts not in evidence, Ken.  When did McCain lose his temper?  You started out only by saying he looked like he was about to.

I was watching.  Obama looked annoyed more often than McC, and my impression is that John would better utilize the angry outburst.

edit to adjust a word choice

Sanity -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 8:58:47 PM)

When Obama kept trying to interrupt McCain out of turn, McCain just kept saying his piece with a strong, even tempo without so much as the slightest flinch, and I though Obama came off as childish while McCain looked like the adult.

Sorry.  Obama got beat.  The image that struck me hardest was when he tried to counter McCain that he had a bracelet with a KIA's name on it, then stammered, and HAD TO LOOK to say that soldiers name.  Trust me, if you missed it, that video will be all over YouTube tomorrow.

    The smirking wasn't good either.

Yeah, the whole 'well, I have a bracelet too' thing was rather lame...

But having to look for the name ... I hate when politicians are nitpicked when it comes to pronouncing names or forgetting something like a name.  They have more information in their brain than I could ever handle, and a misstep every now and again isn't something I pounce on.  I cringed when McCain stumbled over a name (was it the pres of Pakistan?) ... but then he let loose with a whole lotta names in the same thought that he rattled off just fine.  ::shrug::  That doesn't mean much to me.

slaveboy? we all know McCain = Bush.
Bush's approval rating is about 10 these days, he will go down
as one of the worse President's in history.
We should vote for 4 more years of the same shit?

Actually we don't know that.  McCain has been at odds with Bush on a lot of issues.  I don't agree with McCain on a lot of things, but he is a better leader than Obama.  Yeah Bush has a low approval rating, but Congress has a even lower approval rating.  The Democrats had their chance and they blew it.  2 years ago they ran on a platform of ending the Iraq occupation, and what did they do?

The one moment that really struck me:

McCain: "We've got to hire professional interrogators, so that this country never, ever has to torture a prisoner again!"

As far as I can tell, this is the first time a republican has actually admitted that we've tortured the people we've held.

I absolutely agree with you and smiled when he said that.  That may have solidified my feelings on him.  He's not perfect, no politician is.  But I think he has ideals and has the experience needed at this point in our country.  Contrary to what others believe, I don't see McCain=Bush.  I could be wrong, but that's my gut instinct.

MzMia, why is that?  Why do you feel that way?  I know you believe McCain=Bush, but I've read your support for Obama a lot, and I'd love to hear why you think that way.   I ask with all due respect, not to debate, but I'm genuinely curious.

NumberSix -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/26/2008 9:03:54 PM)

Speaking of images and how powerful they are, I saw a girl (damn fine looking) and I clicked three pictures back and the ass that girl had.......

No, I am not shallow, or swayed by images, I want to hold that ass in my hands.

I don't care for President Bush, I don't like his policies, and
I see a lot of Bush in McCain.
I am ready for a change.
Our country is in the worse shape it has been in 75 years, shit is bad.
Why the hell would I want to vote for someone that represents all the things
that are going wrong with our country?

President Bush will go down as being one of the worse President's in US history,
why would I vote for someone remotely similar?

Thanks for explaining, MzMia ... it's more of a vote against McCain than a vote for Obama, then.

That is very true, and you've given me something to look into.  It's difficult to be a fully-informed voter!

However, your statement does illustrate my problem with voting for Sen. Obama.  I see him as all image - very little experience on the foreign stage, or even in the domestic arena.  I think with ten more years experience he will be a very viable candidate.  Interesting ideas, possibly good ones.  Just not ready.

McCapital's biggest and most dishonorable flip-flop of this campaign and maybe of his life. First acting as if and sucking up every bit of occupying the high moral mantel of being against torture even saying it was unAmerican.

Then flips when he signs off and Pat II allowing only but still the CIA to do just that.

Really MzMia?  The worse shape in 75 years?  We aren't in our finest hour, granted.  But again, the worst in 75 years?  We do not have riots in the streets like we did in the 60's.  We are not facing a nuclear war with a military superpower.  We have a significantly lower crime rate than we did 15, 20, or even 30 years ago (check the FBI uniform crime reports if you don't believe me.)  We aren't doing that bad.  We aren't going into another Great Depression, I promise you.  As far as wars go, the one we are in is pretty mild to the others we fought.  Brighten up a little.

yep!..he proved that when he could not remember the soldier's name on the bracelet he "supposedly wears" everyday.....if he has the bracelet, he must not wear it!
