Interesting... I usually use the term fake to describe people who fail to show up in real life and are never heard from again, people who promise to do something but don't, people who don't really exist or don't plan on following through with what they've said.

It doesn't really have to do with the way they express their kinky selves, so much as outright lying. If you are who you say you are, you're not a fake in my view.

A good example of what I consider to be a fake would be a master I got in contact with this summer, who was first "single", then admited to having a sub he saw occasionally, then admitted to having a full-time sub in addition to that, then admited to having four other sub exes and one those subs' girlfriend all living under the same roof with him!

A bit much for plain old monogamous me, let me tell you. [:D]

Now that's a rather spectacular example, but on a more mundane level I've found fakes abound.

amaidiamond -> RE: What do you mean with fake DOMs (I hear in many ads...) (10/16/2008 5:42:43 AM)

I'm not fake I'm weely honestly Twue![;)]

LOL seriously - I don't tend to use the word fake as I figure everyone is right for someone. The guy that is pretty much vanilla except for binding his wife with silk scarves once a week may not be my idea of a Dom but that doesnt mean he isn't someones.

People that claim to be something they are not piss me off but again, I don't call them fakes, I call them liers. I agree with previous comments however, I am less likely to go near someone that has NO Fakes!! In their profile, it just really doesnt appeal to me. Hmm maybe that means I'm not Twue afterall [:D]

Well I always tell a man before we start that I will give him a score 1 to 10... 1 = fake

For example someone who claims to be an expert at flogging and then clouts themself with every back swing.

now come on hun .... he explained that .... he was measuring the impact ... nodsnodsnods

it's when he knocks his glasses off that's really funny

Some of us are "most skilled" with single tails, such that we beat certain other CM posters more than once at whip boxing... and still have the flair and aiming ability to pop ourselves in the eye despite wearin glasses.

On the other hand, give Ivy floggers and watch her try and twirl them after she's been hit with stuff for 2 hours and is more than a little out of it... instant comedy.

(original Elvis Presley - All Shook Up)

Well here's a little warning for you all to see
About the fake doms you can find on Collarme
Watch out if they begin to twitch or start to cough
Uh uh uh their arms drop off

Uh uh uh uh, uh uh, yeah yeah

Well they look slightly different and there is no doubt
Their ears are made of rubber and they flap about
Some bits are even plastic and when it gets hot
Uh uh uh they droop a lot

Uh uh ub, uh uh, yeah yeah

Well please don't ask me what they do to them
They're just not suitable for BDSM
Their voices are as high as an alley cat
And if you hug them too tight they tend to fart

Don't try to play with them 'cos there's just no use
All their bits and pieces just start working loose
They handed one a flogger and there was an almighty shout
Uh uh uh when his dick shot out

Uh uh uh, uh uh, yeah yeah

Well there's dodgy bits almost everywhere
With a wonky left leg and some thinning hair
You can scrub pans with the roughness of their skin
And they got female pubic hair growing on their chins

Some tend to be boss-eyed but some wear glasses too
Their leather trousers also tend to be fake too
They have up to five balls and when they try to talk
Uh uh uh uhm erm oh

Uh uh uh, uh uh, yeah yeah
Uh uh uh, uh uh, yeah yeah
They're all stuck up

Yes there are "fake" Doms and swingers with leather gear pretending to be BDSM.

The old joke goes:

Wife at the mall, kids out playing, a six pack of beer, a computer and poof...    another online Dom is born.

TabrisMaceth -> RE: What do you mean with fake DOMs (I hear in many ads...) (10/20/2008 2:37:38 AM)

I'm a fake dom. I only exist when the collective subconscious of humanity believe I exist.
Also, I like to pretend I'm a girl. Lesbians are awesome!

This sums it up for me as well.  There's no right and wrong way to be a sub/dom or whatever, so I don't classify someone as a fake simply because they have different bdsm ideals than I do.

A fake, to me, is someone who is full of shit on some level, or touting themselves as something that they really aren't, or someone who directly lies in order to get a person where they want them.

Greetings,

I see in many ads statements like "fakes and wannabes stay out"... Are there people who pretend to be dominant and are not? Why should they do so?

Maybe someone can enlighten this subject [8|]

A whole host of personal reasons, I'd imagine. Perhaps some truly believe they're dominant and are guilty only of being misguided. People get things out of order from time to time; ideas and perceptions evolve, so it's not beyond the call of reason that a self-proclaimed dominant turns submissive, and vice versa; or even that someone genuinely is dominant, and then at some later point is genuinely submissive.

Anyway, this is how I see it: "the fake/wannabe stay out" statement is a thinly veiled attempt at convincing themselves that they're in the know, which, incidentally, renders them as close as anyone to the fake/wannabe bracket. I mean, why on earth would someone waste a few lines of good advertising space with that nonsense?

Edited for spelling.

PrincessJ77 -> RE: What do you mean with fake DOMs (I hear in many ads...) (10/20/2008 3:56:58 AM)

I have been called a fake, a gay pretending to be a submissive, and a wannabe slave.  I can assure you I am real and very much female.  When I was looking for an Owner/Master and wasn't interested in the Dom who contacted me, that's when the name calling began.

Sigh, such is life...

fast reply to myself....

I am turned off by the entire "fake" "wannabe" thing... if I came across that in a profile I wouldn't read it any further

The second statement doesn't sound like you, Marie, nor does it appear to be in line with your first statement. What is the measure of "full of shit" when communicating on a message board? It's hardly measurable, and is irretrievably lost to the subjective .

VivaciousSub -> RE: What do you mean with fake DOMs (I hear in many ads...) (10/20/2008 7:38:26 AM)

I consider "fakes" to be those who are in some way, shape or form completely delusional about what it is that they say they're all about and actions always speak louder than words. The mere fact that someone insists they don't want a fake or a wannabe makes me suspicious as hell...it comes back to "methinks the lady doth protest too much".

And it's not that they may even be fakes, it's that they're so worried about perceptions that it's got to cloud their judgment.

For me a fake or wannabe is someone who claims to be something they are clearly not. It has nothing to do with them not fitting my criteria in any shape or form.
For example someone who claims to be an expert at flogging and then clouts themself with every back swing.
Someone who claims to be honest but is actually a big fat liar.
Someone who claims they are a pilot but they are actually a cleaner.

I would say the same thing but I call that a "liar" not a "fake."  Semantics I suppose.

So as not to repeat, i too feel the same as above.   I have figured out in my travels, what works well for me is to simply send them a picture of after effects of  heavy hard impact  scene. Most of the time, it aids to scare them off  rather quickly. *shrug*   If they stick around, we take it from there....

I don't see how the two statements contradict.

The first statement says I don't judge someone as a poser or a fake because they share or live a different bdsm ideal than I do.

The second statement says I judge someone as a fake if they are full of shit.  By "full of shit", I mean dishonest, deceitful, misleading, a liar on some level, a "bullshitter" etc.

Hows does one measure that?  Come on, NG.   How do you measure it?  And you know you measure it.   We all do.

This is a perfect example of what I would consider a fake.

They come in other forms too.

NorthernGent -> RE: What do you mean with fake DOMs (I hear in many ads...) (10/20/2008 1:58:02 PM)

How many people from this board do you know well enough to claim they're dishonest etc?

I find some statements inconsistent and ill-conceived, but that's it. Being of limited knowledge in a subject doesn't equate to being full of shit; it's possible that people are working out their thoughts on a message board and haven't arrived at an informed conclusion (thus appearing to be contradictory and, by extension, "fake"). Yes, people will present their thoughts as conclusive, but this is part of the learning process.

Edited for quotes all over the show.

it's sort of like the bdsm equivalent of people who play guitar hero and call themselves musicians.

I can play a real mean guitar for real, but I totally suck at Guitar Hero.. in fact Guitar Hero frustrates me because it ain't the real thing.
