Bush cut my federal income taxes too---by $300/yr. Whoopie!

Meanwhile, as this came with cuts in federal money, and since stuff still needs to be paid for, my property taxes doubled (already a net loss for me) and the sales tax went up a percentage point.

Then oil and food went through the roof.

Mmmmm.

Pass.

thats right.  unfunded mandates STILL get passed down to state and counties.

wasnt the GOP against unfunded mandates at one point?

rexrgisformidoni -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 5:18:01 PM)

Either way, we'll still end up paying taxes.

here is a little information.  Sen. Obama stated this past week that our taxes will be no higher than the Clinton years.  Just giving everyone a little heads up.  i found this interesting:

www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/

Taxes under Clinton 1999...............Taxes under Bush 2008
Single making 30K - tax $8,400.......... Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $14,000.........Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $23,250.........Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K - tax $16,800.......Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $21,000.......Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $38,750.....Married making 125K - tax $31,250

I'm missing something here....

Wasn't your argument that Obama's tax (plan) would, or could be "no higher" than Clinton's (tax plan)?

If so...what does Bush have to do with your argument?

(It's kind of like saying "GM says Buick's will be cheaper in 2010 than FORD's by 18%"....and then using as your basis for the argument; "but just look at what a tomato costs today!!!!!")

I thought everyone under $250,000 got no tax increase?

I'm fairly certain she used the words "tax cut"....not "tax increase".

Effect of the Presidential Candidates' Tax Plans on Taxpayers' Marginal Tax Rates

K.

I tried to only point out the inaccuracies in the original post without getting into the politics of it, but since you brought this up let's talk about the Tax Foundation.

The Tax Foundation claims to be a non-partisan organization but their home page clearly states that "it is not devoid of perspective".  That perspective has always been a conservative viewpoint, using accurate data but data that is slanted to support right-wing beliefs and policies.  Just Google them and you will find many links accusing them of partisan bias.  You only need to look to your own link for proof of that.

Using marginal tax rates to argue Obama will raise taxes.  Give me a break!  Talk about a stretch!

Let me ask you a simple question.  Do you understand what marginal tax rates are and how misleading it is to use them as a method of comparison?  If you do I would love to debate it with you.

Or did you just latch on to the first link you found on the site that said Obama will raise taxes?

bestbabync -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 5:36:12 PM)

taxes under Bush is what we are paying now.  that is the only reason i used that rough comparison (calculated by a friend of mine).  Sen. Obama made the statement that our taxes will be no higher than the Clinton years.

Do you have a link to that statement?

bestbabync -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 5:51:46 PM)

i heard it in a speech he made at one of his rallies

Which speech at what rally?

I'll be happy to look it up.

bestbabync -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 6:05:15 PM)

if i remembered which rally i would for sure have told you in my previous reply.  i try to listen to speeches from both candidates, even though i am not supporting either the pub or dem with my vote.  sorry but i do not remember which rally.

slvemike4u -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 6:24:35 PM)

BestBaby you are a most curious undecided voter...A majority of the post's I have seen ,seem to have a very McCainish slant to them.
But all that aside,I believe the actual statement concerned the tax rate for those above 200,000 dollars...and no I don't have a link either....but than again I am only trying to help  [:D]

bestbabync -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 6:31:01 PM)

i am not an undecided voter.  i am voting 3rd party.  both candidates voted for the bailout and i will not vote for any candidate/politician that voted yea!  i truly believe the bailout is just a bandaid which just extended the tough times ahead.  i do naturally lean more toward McCain/Palin, due to having some in common opinions on certain issues.  i am proudly prolife.

oh and thankie thankie for the help!

edited to thank slvemike4u

Strange that they make  a humungous case against obama about saying "spreading the wealth around"
but nothing about "taxes will be no higher than the Clinton years."  You would have thought someobody smart would have been all over analyzing that statement, on either side of the fence.

I know, you're very impartial.

You listen to both candidates with an open mind, you just happen to remember only the things Obama says that seem to reflect negatively on him but you just can't seem to remember where or when he said them.

pahunkboy -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 6:44:01 PM)

best,  here is a lay out of the deregs

http://seekingalpha.com/article/71265-the-credit-bubble-deregulation-gone-wild

note when it was wrote.   spring 2008.   begun 1982.   and how silly the logic looks per the 3 safeguards.

and now we see how trickle down has worked.

trickle down vs spreading the wealth around.

we tried the trickle down.  now lets try another mode.

Rule take it from an Obama voter,I saw it today  on CNN,at a campaign rally...of course when I heard it ,in the context I heard it,it wasn't a bad thing. It was a refuting of the charge that he would take peoples money irresponsibly

bestbabync -> RE: projected increase in our taxes if Senator Obama wins the presidency (10/20/2008 6:54:32 PM)

oh my goodness!  Sen. Obama has clearly stated he will raise taxes.  to be honest if we go back to something similar to the Clinton tax plan, that would not upset me.  hell, i voted for Clinton, met him face to face twice, once before he won in 1992 and again this year.  i think he is a very intelligent man.  i do not agree with him on everything, but i do respect him.   my OP was information i obtained from a friend and i added a link to a website he gave me.  if you look at that website it is full of positives & negatives on both presidential candidates.  i found the website somewhat informative.  of course we all know that alot of media information whether it comes from the right or the left, can sometimes be misleading/untrue.  i was just sharing and hoping to hear others opinions.
sorry to upset you, rulemylife.  my opinions or decisions are just that, mine.  i do not expect everyone to agree with me.
