I didn't expect to be anywhere near this emotional about him winning.  I thought I be happy, proud, relieved, etc.  I didn't think I would be crying.  I fell hard for him when his speeches made me see the possibility of the return of the America I was proud to be a part of.  Tonight I feel like I just watched it be born again...

BTW, McCain is doing a great job with his concession speech and deserves the utmost respect for it.

I knew I would be crying!
I am sure I will be crying a lot!
It is the beer that I drank that surprised me!

What the hell, I am making posters to take to school tomorrow.

I am watching Senator McCain give his concession speech.  Where was this man over the last 2 years?  Things could be very different if McCain could have spoken as well as he just did.

Congratulations President-Elect Obama! :)

It was truly eloquent and I suspect it will become a marked part of this historical event.  Too bad he didn’t previously conjure as much passion about becoming president as he did about losing the election.

There's been an election... and I actually feel hope.

That's completely new, none of the options -winner or loser- before has caused that.

This was my feeling as well. McCain is now looking to history. It was an impressive speech- impassioned and meant to unite a country that badly needs unity and hope.

I hope his supporters heard the message.

Now I can finally say there's a new day in America.

President-Elect Obama. Sounds good. (for now....)

Suzykeu -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 8:45:09 PM)

Whoo! He won! i was sure he would because of the polls, but he also won VA and FL, and as a resident of one and former resident of the other, that just makes me warm all over ^_^

Careful Faery...there may be an ugly backlash.  They need someone to blame for all the world's ills...

Be afraid, be very afraid

Of what...please explain. Afraid of socialism...we have it already closing in on $2 trillion worth to wall street not to mention bankers and agriculture. Redistribution of wealth...we have it from labor to capital...i.e. from the poor to the rich. Liberalism in Wash....we have it, big govt. deficit spending, nation-building.

Maybe at least now our liberalism can be taken whole and pure...without the base alloy of hypocracy.

OR...are you afraid he'll be politically rousted like Clinton ? Afraid he'll have to shut the govt. down to make a case for his policies ? Afraid he'll be killed. Please tell us.

I'm happy about this, but let's not forget that he has inherited a shitburger.  We'll have to see what he delivers.

I've recently been a local volunteer for the Obama campaign, so I'm very happy.  But it's also bittersweet because at one point, I very much supported McCain.  Such is the life of an Independent.

I was impressed at John McCain's concession speech and wish him and his family well.

I also wish Obama and his family all the very best as they start this journey, and that God will bless them.  Right now, I hope his grandmother and mother are watching from heaven, proud as can be.

I agree.  McCains knows this is history in the making and his speech will become part of his legacy.

It was a very smart democratic campaign and even republican states will have demarcates in the senate.  56 in the senate now, the question now is whether or not we can get 60 to become filibuster proof.  The democratic swing of the senate tells me that the American voters are much more aware of the power structure than they have been in the past.

I hope Obama can give us a healthy democratic style economy again and pay down the national debt like Clinton did.

Agreed. I am looking forward to telling my children about how I lived to see the first non-white president elected and I am very happy that I can say the man who ran against him lost with dignity.

MaCain is giving a speach and people are booing our new President... He is trying to stop them... poor losers are not impressive.  It is time to do what is best for our country and that kind of stuff is shameful.

It is hard to be a good loser when you realize it was a stolen election. If Obama had kept his promises about campaign funds and not succumbed to the temptation of illegal funding, do you really think he would have won? Obama purchased the votes of the ignorant and by lying about who he is.

Now he has to deal with promises he can't possibly deliver on. He has his work cut out for him.

More undiluted bullshit. It was all fair and square by the rules of past elections. I know...you wanted Obama to fall on his political sword, take only federal funds so McCapital could out spend him.

BTW, the national media didn't declare Obama the winner until after California, Penn., Va. among most state's polls had closed and not that long ago.

I am sitting here crying as I type.
I am just too emotional right now.

Senator Obama has just been elected President of the United States.

It is indeed a historic time we live in, and I hope the country can come together now and with him help to fix the incredible damage to our livelihood and freedoms suffered over the past years, not to mention our standing with the world.

Our country did a real good thing today and I am proud that Obama never played the race card and ran on the issues.  We truly saw past the color of his skin and that awful name.  Hopefully his speech won’t start “Brothers and sisters”   . . . LOL

BitaTruble -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 9:01:00 PM)

I've always been proud to be an American .. but never quite so proud as I am tonight. It took us almost 400 years to begin to repair our single greatest fuck-up. I imagine it will take several more years and several more steps to get where we are capable of being, but this step, so long in the making has finally been made and I'm in tears. Tonight is for celebration .. tomorrow, it's back to work.

Right now, my new President wants to talk to me.. so, see ya all later. [:)]

I wanted the playing field to be equal. If they had both done what they had promised, instead of only one man keeping his promises, I do not think we would be having an empty, charismatic suit heading to the White House. But that is simply my opinion.

I have been following the media all night, both CNN and Fox called it for Obama before California was announced.
