WoW… an acceptance speech that made the crowd cry. His story about he 106 year old black lady and how her right have changed was pretty touching.

. . . sorta’ makes me proud to be an American again.

It was a very moving speech, beautiful. It's like waking up from a nightmare: times are changing.

Give me a Brake about this!  ---->

It is hard to be a good loser when you realize it was a stolen election. If Obama had kept his promises about campaign funds and not succumbed to the temptation of illegal funding, do you really think he would have won? Obama purchased the votes of the ignorant and by lying about who he is.

Now he has to deal with promises he can't possibly deliver on. He has his work cut out for him.

To my friends who support President elect Obama,

We should honor his wishes and try and heal the divisions that so seperate us. I urge you all to let those embittered by this outcome to vent without us engaging them in debate or argument. Let them have a few days to deal with their loss. I hope that if we behave as good winners they will give the new President and his ideas a fair shake.

Ken

darchChylde -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 9:39:29 PM)

I am glad that Obama won and both speeches were beautiful and impassioned, I was as impressed with the dignity of McCain's concession as I am of the inspiration ofObama's acceptance; I feel that there's a chance I can once again be truly proud of my country.

My only fear is that of an assassination, the terrible potential of another race and class war that could follow an assassination attempt, let alone one that is successful.

The coming months and years will be a great test of not only the president and congress, but also of the American people.  We shall see if we can stand it, I believe we will.

Ken, at some point you need to learn to ignore
the embittered losers.
Whenever someone wins, someone else loses, do
you expect everyone to be happy and accepting.
Celebrate! Be happy! Don't let sour grapes steal your joy!

600 celebrating in front of the White House as I am typing this!
I am only 25 minutes away, I should be out there!

FetishRose -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 9:41:03 PM)

here we go..
congratulations to Obama.  I did not vote for him; I don't agree with him.
I hope he won't screw things up worse than they already are.  I hope he doesn't implement a lot of his ideas.
But, he was the popular elect, and thats what we've gotten for the next 4 years so I wish him well.

I am sitting here crying as I type.
I am just too emotional right now.

Senator Obama has just been elected President of the United States.

Thank GOD! [:)]

Did you see McCaine deal with his own party booing Obama? Classic. bye bye hickville.

Yeah, pretty much.

Even though there is quite a few things I disagree with, I can be happy over the hope the Iraq war will be coming to a close and even more happy that some of Palin's psycho Christian social issues won't be given much light.

I don't quite see all this "change" that the Obama campaign is a symbol of beyond the racial side of this (and am unimpressed with the general inability it seems for anyone to quantify what this "change" is), but, at least, I can see the bright side regarding the issues I do support.

Yeah... The word "change" doesn't impress me at all.  We hear it in every single election.  It is probably the most worn out political cliche there is.  We'll hear it again four years from now.

I liked the speech. America is back.

His positive mindset should inspire good things.  Maybe a climate of possibilty will produce good outcomes as opposed to the now climate of fear.

Good bye neo con era.  There shall alas be dancing in the streets.

Those with sour grapes do not subtract from my joy. I just hope that if we don't fight with them that their bitterness will not harden.

But you should get out and get to the White House and celebrate.

BTW have you checked out the pervy inaugural celebration thread?

lilmisssubmiss -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 9:44:06 PM)

I'm just so afraid he is going to get assasinated.

Spontaneous parties are igniting throughout the whole country (and on the entire planet too). Go out and honk your horns if you can, it's a historical night.

kittin? do you think we should streak?
I really miss streakers.

Archer -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 9:48:16 PM)

Mixed emotions here for me, never supported Obama but certainly have a wonderful feling that this result does speak volumes for how far the racial issues have come without notice and without proof until now. They are not over but they are not as bad as the world would have us think either.

Here is hopeing that the folks saying landslide today look back at reality when thy come down and see that the margin was smaller than they would like to think and that the mandate for change was not wholesale.
I hope President Elect Obama holds to the speach promises of tonight and continues to move towards center.

I hope that the fears I have about his policies will in the end be negotiated into more centrist workable policies.

Congratulations to the President Elect may god bless his presidency.

kittinSol -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 9:49:42 PM)

I think we should keep the celebrations dignified and keep the streaking for the bedroom, no? The first thing I said to my husband when we heard the news was "Let's go and make babies!". We didn't, well, not quite, but... you get the idea [8D] . I wouldn't be surprised if we get a boost in demographics in nine months from now :-) .

I knew I should have stocked up on Champagne, but I didn't want to tempt faith. Give us a beer, aye, philo?
