What I predicted last month has started on CollarMe.
I am not surprised at all the racist and thinly veiled racist attacks.

I am a bit surprised they have started with a vengance, 5 days
after the election.
I have never seen this level of vitriol and hatred for a President
that has not even been inaugurated. {and believe me I was pissed
when Bush won in 2000!}.

This will certainly continue, it will not stop and I fully expect it too last
for years.
I adore President elect-Obama, CollarMe and many here.
I do not plan on leaving, but ignoring posts, posters and using the block
feature is my new friend.
.....I have to really say, I am sadly not surprised at all.

Mia, it's a bunch of crap.
President- Elect Obama will be America's President for the next four years and people should get behind him!
We had our election, The People decided and that's that.
Now let's get on with it.
I'd much rather be reading what people want to see him do in the next four years then whether he's "half black", "half white" or whatever.
It's about *our country*!
As I said in another thread I hope President Obama is the best President this country has ever had! If McCain were elected I'd be hoping the same thing!
It's not about his "race" it's about what he's going to do for our country.

We agree Popeye, that is not an issue.
Check out some of the posts and posters, 5 days
after an election.
He is not even the President, yet.

I was talking about many of the posts and posters, dear.

It's pretty damned pathetic of some people that they be such ungracious losers - I see it too, Mia. *Sigh*... they're trying to rob us of our joy: let's not let them :-) .

It is horrific kittin.
It is hard to describe how racist many people STILL are,
it is something you have to just see and experience.
You will certainly understand soon.

The good news it will bring many of us closer, one love.
But many people can't be helped, it runs to deep.
I will not allow them to steal my joy.

I think I always understood, always being from somewhere else and all that... gave me a little preview of various aspects of xenophobia and other lovelies... it stinks, but hey, all big cleanouts start out with a lot of dust. You'll see, this is all progress. Change is painful at times, and this is what some people are experiencing. They're scared because everything seems different to them, and when people are scared, they get violent. It sucks, but it'll settle. I'm sure of it.

No one will rob me of my joy and I will continue to state what I believe. It's not about trying to brow beat anyone into agreeing with me, but some things, I find it hard to just turn a blind eye to.

However, I will just keep my opinions on politics to the political blogs I visit and my own personal blog. I don't want to make this a boxing ring for those subjects.

Keep ya head up, chica!

on the otherhand;

as a public figure he is fair game as was every prior president.

"feeling good" isnt good enough for me. I want the action which is required to secure the nation, but NOT bail outs.

One cant simply not attack Obama BECAUSE he is of color.

True non-discrimination  means that he would get no special treatment -  he would be dissed just as all presidents are.

"feel good"?   that wont  put a meal on the table, a job to go to, are the bills paid.     Get real.

Mia,

What am I Missing?  I have been trying to read and keep up, so I have to assume that I have missed many very important posts.  I have seen those who are concerned about the next four years.  I have not seen anyone talk about Obama's race.  I have seen a lot of discussion about his politics and the disagreement with his vision for this country.
Can you please point out to Me (for My benefit) what you have been reading so much of that is racist?  Maybe post a few links that will help Me along here?
Perhaps there have been a few that I have missed, and that is always ugly.  But I am really not seeing it.  In fact, the threads specifically regarding race that I have seen have all been started by his supporters who are so very pleased that this country has come so far that we could elect an African-American.  It really bothers Me that anyone who disagrees with PE Obama's stated vision for the future of this country has to make sure that there is a disclaimer of some sort that this has nothing to do with the man's skin color, and they may still be accused of racism.   *Sigh*
I admit I am *cornfused*.

kittin, I am one of the people that will be FOREVER
changed by his election.
I am starting to have HOPE for America.
I live about 40 minutes from the White House.
I am thinking about him and his little family visiting tomorrow,
I am wondering what school his little girls will go to {I think they
should be homeschooled}.
I am so happy and excited to live to see this historic occasion.
I am certain, I won't ever see this again in my lifetime {unless he gets
a 2nd term}.
I am filled with joy, I will not allow it to be stolen, I am Obamarized.

Mz Mia...Popeye is right.  Ignore the knotheads.  I did not vote for Obama, but he is my president and I support him 100%.  The people did speak and that majority wanted him.  It is now about us...the US  not blue, not red but red, white and blue.  The people need to get behind him and  I really think they will.  There will always be that 10% out on the fringe that will always be against whatever.

Well, the good news is I am not seeing it around me at all.
But then I live right outside of D.C.
Most of the people around this area are thrilled and we welcome
our new D.C. resident {President elect Obama/and family}!!!!!

The MAIN place I am seeing negativity is here on CollarMe, so
Mike it aint that hard to ignore.
But since I am here a lot, I wanted to comment on it.

I so understand Mz Mia.
I don't think I've ever been as moved and as happy as what happened on election day.

But the campaign was bad, listening to the atrocious racist smears and vile remarks, and it is continuing.  Hard to ignore, but every time I read about Obama's commitment to the change he pledged during his campaign I returnd to the feelings of joy of what has happened in our country and how it's touched the world.
I'm so happy to be alive at this point in history.

I'm just going to do what you've done - make myself familiar with the ignore button and stay away from many of the threads that aim to antagonize.

What I wouldn't give to be in DC on January 20!!!!

I will admit that I am prejudiced. Not against race, but against hatred, ignorance and stupidity. I can't stand it and will protest and stomp it out if at all possible wherever I am. I will state it again..people would be very surprised I suspect if they have their DNA run to see just who in all contributed to their existence. Unless your family has been living in an isolated region with no contact with the outside, trade and a very small genetic pool (inbred), the majority of people have DNA ties to a lot of regions and races. Hating another because of skin color or religion is to hate yourself and your ancestors. People still continue to do it any way.

MzMia, we are likely to read anything here over the next four years. That everything is to blame on our president elect because he is black, grew up poor, he is white, went to Harvard, he's a lawyer and was a Senator and not a Governor, has the wrong dog, wears the wrong socks, eats the wrong food. He knew going into this that he and Michelle were going to need thick skins and I suspect they already have a couple of therapist lined up for their daughters to help them handle the hatred and adoration that will come their way. Collarme is a small cross section of America, hell of the world and we have intolerance here for Kinks, why should we not see them for race or political party. Some people are going to hate on him because he is a Democrat.

These last few months with the collapse of the housing and stock markets,  rocketing unemployment rates and a vicious presidential race have left a lot of people fearful of the future. Some of us have hope, not because someone of mixed race is in the White house but because we have hope that maybe it won't be business as usual, even though we suspect it will be to a large extent. Some are pessimistic, many are fearful of losing their jobs, their homes and will focus on someone they can blame for it all if the house of cards tumbles down around their ears. Someone other than themselves. Fear begets hatred.. sad but true. Hopefully people will learn to let go of the color of the mans skin and let him do the job he was elected to do. I won't hold my breath however It has taken over 200 years to get to this point and we still have a ways to go.

Since I am presuming, from the wording of your OP, that you are referring to negativity concerning PE Obama's race, I again ask...Where, Mia?  I had hoped you would be able to point Me in the direction of the posts I have missed concerning such an ugly thing.
But I haven't yet had a reply.
