MadRabbit -> CHANGE! THE CHANGE IS COMING! (11/10/2008 5:45:52 PM)

Forgive my over the top topic title, but the recent South Park episode really did a number on me and I have this vision of Randy Marsh running around with his shirt off yelling about "CHANGE!" that I can't get rid of.

So I have heard a lot about CHANGE! in the last year and how things are going to CHANGE!

Being the skeptic that I am, I tend to put up a strong guard when I hear a politician talk about CHANGE! especially when that CHANGE! is constantly referenced without much quantification as to what that CHANGE! will be.

So for everyone out there who voted or didn't vote because of CHANGE!, what do you think will be CHANGED! during a Barrack Obama presidency, good or bad?

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: CHANGE! THE CHANGE IS COMING! (11/10/2008 5:52:26 PM)

big question is...is it going to be a good change...or bad one?

Well, Michael, that is what I am hoping we can debate.

I want just about everything CHANGED.

I want to see so much CHANGE, that I am overwhelmed!

One major change I noticed Wednesday morning was the shear number of smiling faces on the 6:48 train.
To me, this is a physical manifestaion of the hope people feel when they consider that, as a nation, we actually had the guts to elect a person of color.

BTW: I was impressd by the South Park boys assembling the show using the actual words from both Obama's and McCain's speeches.  Nicely done!  And Sarah Palin with a tough, no-nonsense British accent was priceless!

What if chocolate ice cream disappears?

Come on MzMia, I have been hearing so much about the CHANGE! that is coming. I want to know some details about it.

Help restore my faith that people voted for something that is substantiated and plausible and weren't brainwashed by repetition of a one word catch phrase.

Around here, people are smiling like never before.
People seem to be a lot happier, I know I am.

According to John Podesta ,the first order of business will be a reversal of current Bush Administration policies concerning stem cell research and oil and natural gas drilling in Utah.
That sounds like a good start.....The return of the Rule of Law would make me very happy, closing Guantanamo and repairing our tattered reputation with the rest of the world community.Repeal of the Patriot Act,no more warrantless wiretaps.....basically a repudiation of the overreaching policy initiatives Bush and Chaney have jammed down our throats while distracting us and dividing us.

I like vanilla ice cream, wabbit.
I like chocolate wabbits.
CHANGE is the point!
Change, change and more change.
The first change was just getting him elected.

I can link you to some Obama webpages, other than
what is printed, I don't know what is actually in his head.
I can assure you, you will see the "change" soon.

Be patient, grasshopper.

Okay. Fair enough.

However, that is mostly a symbol of change that has already happened and how far we have come as nation regarding racial issues in this society. Hence, President Obama being elected only shows how much has already changed and has nothing to do with what will changed from this point on in our society.

I dont see much of anything changing for the better. I expect his tax changes to be a disaster, his foreign policy to change how people see us, most likely in a light not favorable, people do not want us in Iraq, but they also don't want a US with a mealy mouth appeaser.
I see the economy changing into a cesspit of shit, even worse.
I see alot of people changing from hopeful to disappointed.
I see myself changing from ridiculed to vindicated when his policies fail.

Crush -> RE: CHANGE! THE CHANGE IS COMING! (11/10/2008 6:04:30 PM)

Change is inevitable.  Really.  (Except maybe the opinions of some with regards to George W Bush and the 2000 election. That's when MoveOn.Org got stuck in the past.  -- but that's a different thread!)

The problem is if the change is "for the good" long term or short term.   After all, AIG is feeling pretty good right now since things changed for them with another chunk of my grandchildren's and their children's money/future.

I don't want certain changes.  I'd like the Gov't to keep its hands off my 401k and other retirement plans.  I'd like the gov't to keep its hands off my guns.  I'd like the gov't to keep out of my bedroom (and dungeon.)

Change is inevitable...but change can really suck.

happypervert -> RE: CHANGE! THE CHANGE IS COMING! (11/10/2008 6:04:31 PM)

That was impressive how they had that South Park up the day after the election. I guess the results were predictable, but I was still surprised how they had bits of Obama's and McCain's speeches from the night before.

The sort of changes I expect include:
  • science might be considered more reliable than the word of god
  • you can disagree with the government without having your patriotism questioned
  • we won't be encouraged fear and despise foreigners  from south of the border or across the oceans

Those are the big ones off the top of my head.

Doesn't that bother you?

I appreciate the offer, but what I am really interested in knowing is what change you voted for as an individual if you cast your vote for the purposes of change?

Everybody has been talking about how they want change and how Obama is going to bring it. If that be the case, I don't think it should be hard to summarize what change you voted for when you cast that vote.

I mean, if the whole basis for voting for Obama was for CHANGE! when that CHANGE! can't be quantified or made specific, then why vote for CHANGE?

The U.S. being in a nuclear war would definitely by CHANGE! What if that's the CHANGE! you voted for?

I thought that it was "Yes we can!"  The Bob the Builder slogan.  (Everytime I see or hear Obama speak that song goes through my head)

Bob the Builder
Can we fix it?
Bob the Builder
Yes, we can!

Scoop, Muck and Dizzy and Roley too
Lofty and Wendy join the crew
Pilchard and Bird, Travis and Spud
Playing together like good friends should

Bob the Builder
Can we fix it?
Bob the Builder
Yes, we can!

Hey!
Time to get busy, such a lot to do
Building and fixing till it's good as new
Bob and the gang have so much fun
Working together, they get the job done

Can we build it? Yeah!
Can we fix it? Yeah!

Bob the Builder
Can we fix it?
Bob the Builder
Yes, we can! (Yeah!)

Thank you, Mike

And to everyone else who has posted specifics.

I'm also skeptical regarding politicians.

Although I don't agree with him on everything, one of the reasons I voted for him was he did lay out his plans, in more detail than I have ever seen a candidate for any office do.

Which is what puzzles me when I see questions like yours, how you have not seen the answer to your own question.

You may not agree with it, but it's false to claim that he has not outlined his planned changes far more thoroughly than John McCain did, or for that matter, any Presidential candidate in recent memory.

That was hilarious, too, but when it opened up and Randy was running around and kissing the television screen yelling "CHANGE! The CHANGE is COMING! He's so beautiful! He's so perfect! CHANGE", I spit up my Pabst Blue Ribbon.
