I have been away from the boards for awhile due to business travel and as I normally attempt to keep up with the mix of new folks coming on to the CM path I causually review the profiles of newcomes. Upon doing so I read a profile of a lady that presented a thome on being a "slut" from many angles.
Since I use the term in my profile, it brought to mind the chance that over the last few years the meaning has morphed into an new understanding.

Whats your thoughts on the interpretation be ye "D" or "s"?

A slut, from my Draconian Roman Catholic upbringing, is not a good thing for her parents but a great thing for we boys!

Slut is a word. While many people view it as derogatory it is not, it is simply someone who enjoys sex. If that can be considered a negative then people will indeed use it that way. I used to see it as a negative. I changed my perspective. Now I am proud to say I am a slut. :D

I don't like the term slut. I don't call myself one and it's a negative word in my book. Though in the context of "dirty talk" I don't mind it. I guess in the end it all depends on the context of the word, when it's use and of course by whom.

I guess that goes the same for a lot of words though.

Partial repost:
For me, slut has nothing at all to with the ACT of sex, how MANY people you have sex with, what TYPE of sex you have with it, what CRITERIA you use with your partners. Being a slut for me is a personal attitude towards sex and sexuality. It is an attitude that hungers for sexual interactions, is unashamed of those hungers and actively seeks to satiate those hungers.

A woman who only has one partner she only ever kisses her whole life can be just as much a slut as I am.

This also helped me in that I realize so many people (women especially) find it hard to be “a slut.” They can embrace being “someone’s slut” or being a loved slut, but find it difficult to be bald-facedly an open slut. So by keeping things to a personal attitude level, it doesn’t matter HOW the person acts as a slut…simply that they embrace their slut attitude.

In short:
slut- someone who has an active interest in sex, sexuality and celebrates it openly (does not imply any ACTUAL sex, or any AMOUNT of sex)

whore- someone who receives money in exchange for sexual services

bitch- female who has aggravating, negative and superior attitude

The word "slut" to me means someone who enjoys sex and does it a lot. I do not attach any gender to the word as I know plenty of male sluts, although I do know most people attach this word to a female person. I see nothing wrong with being a slut as long as you are safe, happy and careful in what it is that you do.

Slut..one who is promiscuous and free with their sexuality..ie..they'll sleep with anyone. That has always been my understanding throughout my lifetime.

MY/HIS slut...one who is promiscuous with HIM and free with her sexuality with Him, for Him.

There's a difference between "open" and "completely lacking boundaries"

But if you think I'd do anyone, I guess I need to give a few more of my relatives a call...

I used to think I was a slut, but then I realized I was just acting like a man!

I love dirty talk...for some reason it really gets me going.  So the word "slut" is one of my favorites.  I am my Lady's "slut" and it turns me on for her to make me say so...

I am also a forum slut...though thankfully for you all, it does not turn me on in the same way.

The word slut is usually used to keep a woman's sexuality in check. Only recently have men been called 'sluts' as well (i'm talking about mainstream vernacular), but the implications and derogatory meaning are not the same. It's used in dirty talk because it still connotes a taboo... the taboo of promiscuity and openness. I don't use it and cringe when people use it during play/sex, thinking it'll turn me on or make me feel 'like a bad girl.'

The only time I will use 'slut' is in humor, with a modifier before it. (moto-slut, shoe slut, purse slut, etc... meant in the way of 'major lover of X')

I like LA's definition of the word "slut".  This sums me up pretty much, so color me slut, and don't worry about staying within the lines.    I do not see this applied to me in a negative sense.  I am safe, I won't fuck anything that moves.  I will go so far as to call myself a pain slut, soda slut, Junior Mints slut.  At the moment, I am celebrating my Beer Sluttiness.  mmmmm

And to those that try to label me a "slut" in a negative sense, bah to you.

Another vote for LA...  Complete abandonment to one's sexuality is my view. The rest is determined by how one puts it into practice that counts and/or makes it a positive or negative event/connotation,

I am not aware the meaning of "slut" has changed since I first bopped one, and that is a long time ago. Are you saying your business travels took several years, in which you had no access to a computer? Maybe time to get a laptop..

*chuckles* Ever being a radical, I open embrace being called a slut and use it as a positive term. Why? Because sluts are more devoted to what they are sluts for. As someone else said... shoe slut... music slut... dance slut.. whatever it is, they are a slut for it... and they apply themselves to it whole heartedly.

All my girls know my definition of slut and delight in my calling them a slut. I always make sure than they know I use it in a positive manner. Such as "my beautiful slut", "my adored slut or "my precious slut," etc. All of my girls know I abhor degradation, but admitting to being  a slut, a sexual creature that applies themselves to being the best at what they do, just gets my motor running. They are my beloved little sluts and I cherish them for it and so much more.

Cheers,
Hath`alud

For many years before I came into D/s I was identified myself as a slut.  While it has always been considered a derogatory term I didn't see it that way.  The only connotation it ever had to me was of someone who enjoys sex frequently and has multipul partners.  Often people would call me a whore for that.  I was constantly correcting them that I was a slut, otherwise they would have to pay me!

Welcome back CelticPrince.

I have to concur with LA's idea of a slut.  Erase the negative connotations that have become so deeply rooted in our society and the way it's used in what StrtbkNamedDesire referred to as 'mainstream vernacular'.  (by the way StrtbkNamedDesire– WOW! love the art)   Me, I'm a slut with a cuddleslut streak a mile wide.

love

yup, I'm a slut, and proud of it!  But I'm only a slut with my partner. For him, I'll do pretty much anything, anywhere, anytime.  I'm extremely sexual and love huge amounts of sex, the kinkier the better.

But I am choosy - I won't just pick up a guy for sex, and I won't have sex with anyone who doesn't turn me on physically and mentally.  I guess I'm a selective slut!

At a poly meet and greet I was at once, a woman called herself a brainslut... she was a slut for anyone that was smart and stimulating on an intellectual level. *chuckles* Just sharing a bit of an idea...

I'd say I'm a human slut... since I want someone that can stimulate me mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually... basicly cover the whole human depth of experience.

Cheers and happiness as you find it,
Hath`alud

I've heard that the difference between a slut and a bitch is a slut is someone who will have sex with anyone.  A bitch is someone who will have sex with anyone but you.
