ORIGINAL: WinsomeDefiance I think IQ's are over-rated. My ex-husband has an IQ of what is typically considered 'genius,' but the man wasn't smart enough to know better than to drill through a board that was sitting on his thigh. Here's a news flash, if it will drill through hard wood, it won't have much problem continuing on through jeans and flesh and yes, bone. He also managed to create a mote of fire, yes fire, around my home after deciding that the reason my car wouldn't start was because of bad gas. After ciphoning it out of the tank, into the ditch (yes ditch,) he was jonesing for a cigarette and somehow forgot that gas was flammable. And let us not forget the time he decided to re-wire the bathroom cabinet over the sink, but forgot to ground the wiring so that every time I touched the metal part of the entirely metal cabinet, I got knocked on my ass, by a jolt of electricity. Oh yes, and the time he decided to upgrade our ceiling fan, and when I asked him if he'd remembered to flip the breaker, said that all he needed to do was flip the switch off, which he did. Of course, he forgot that we had switches on both sides of the room, and he actually flipped it on. That time HE got knocked to HIS ass by a jolt of electricity, and yes I did feel happily vindicated (in case you were wondering.) I could go on, but I wouldn't want to bore everyone. Yes, IQ's are definitely over-rated. IQ tests actually only show that you are good at doing IQ tests, hate the things, we did one in school and unfortunately I scored high on that, the evil chemistry teacher decided then that I was just lazy (doesn't speak much of her IQ if she needed an IQ test to find that out, the fact that I never bothered with homework might have been an indicator) and she decided to put my goals higher, which I thought was unfair because everybody in the same course should be tested according to the same standard, otherwise where is the point in having marks? Now at uni there was a guy who always scored top marks and I decided it might be a good way to actually prepare with him for exams (I honestly did that sometimes, though not very often) and basically he was just memorizing everything. On top of it all, my electric kettle was broken so I boiled water on the gas cooker for tea, I was taking the cups out when it started to whistle and asked him to switch off the gas, he BLEW it out.... Formal education only shows that you actually have the commitment to sit something out and put energy into following a goal, the degrees have sometimes helped me to get jobs (though it gets a bit tired to be knocked back with "you are overqualified") but what I learned never had much relevance in the job I was doing and it doesn't make for great conversation, unless my aim is boring people to death. PS: xxblushesxx are you flirting with me? If so keep it up, I like it[8|]
