I don't know about stupid people, but being of average intelligence amidst the 'genius' of my ex-husband and his family and the 'military officers' of my family, was quite amusing for me. My life, sans BDSM at that time, would have been pretty dull otherwise. Between the antics of my ex-husband and his family, one of whom could help design the patriot missile, but seemed lost when it comes to every day common sense; and my military officer family, who could lead countless scores of soldiers, and acquire White Houe clearancce levels, but couldn't stand up to the tiny 4'10" women in their lives - average intelligence seemed a blessing.

Geez, Akisha, this isn't the Checklist thread! I'll read pretty much anything I can get my hands on, from Redbook to a Popular Mechanics manual, but I'm relatively confident that I'm not the well read, intelligent rubadubsub he's speaking of. Probably because I'm all content and happy if most of the people I meet aren't in the Pop-up graphics or Scratch and Sniff percentile.

I value a partner that I feel can stand on equal footing with me regarding overall potential; this includes intellect, creativity, emotionality, interests, etc. While I have a lot of formal education, no one I have considered a partner has had the same level of formal education that I have, yet I have never thought of any of those individuals as lesser than myself; we each have our strengths and, ideally, partnerships involve individuals who compliment one another, not who are carbon copies of one another. Seems to me that a simple meeting of like minds is the answer..so that together you can be intelligient ot stupid , it comes down to what you find intelligient..(which may be a lot or not as much as you think)..personally common sense is a bigger factor to me..and as many have said...if tou wish for conversation out of the bedroom that challenges you..try looking for some common interests to go with.....ok I know boring answer..but dayum..I can seem to locate my funny bone tonight..grrrr/Tempting

Harlequins are like fast food appetizers. Too pricey for what you get, and too quickly devoured. I admit it. I too am re-reading the Harry Potter Books. I usually have 2 or 3 different books going at the same time...no clue why, always have.

Well-read doesn't always mean smart. I've seen many English majors who read "everything they were supposed to" but had no clue what any of it meant. And of course there are plenty of smart people out there who really don't care for books. However, as a devoted bookworm looking for more bookworms to talk to, I've often put indicators of my interest in my profile. For example I used to choose nicknames and handles that revealed my favorite literary characters. I also used to quote some of my favorite books in my journal without identifying them as such. It worked. I always got great responses from observant people who used books as a springboard to start an interesting dialogue with me. In short, I put out my line and reeled in some real winners. To the OP: I suggest you bait your profile with references you like and see what happens. And pay more attention to other people's profiles- they may be advertising with subtle hints.

Well read is such a matter of perspective. To me, well read can mean a number of things. At least an awareness of the classics and why they are classics. A reasonable grasp of history defined as an understanding of the broad chronology and pivotal moments in history, in short enough to not only know history repeats itself but can cite examples. Enough understanding of science that you can laugh at most Farside cartoons. In short, enough knowledge to be able to carry on an intelligent conversation and know when to say something and when perhaps it is better to say nothing. Then you have people like my old humanities teacher who was certainly well read, in both English, Latin, Greek, and Old Greek. He had walked much of the route Alexander had taken to conquer the known world, had taught at the Vatican, and in general was just one amazing man.

Seriously, this is more important than most think. No most sexual and play focused couple still talk and enjoy each others company. Intellectual intercourse is as important to a healthy long term relationship as the physical; except compatibility isn't as important as ability. beth is a fantastic debate adversary! We share very few political and philosophical beliefs. We tolerate, versus enjoy, each others preferred choice of music. We both see this as a 'good thing'. We'd both think it boring if we just 'head bobbed' to the other's pontification. We enjoy challenging each others views. It's a fun diversion. What wouldn't be fun is if either of us couldn't keep up with the other. Similar to physical, intellectual requirements are a function of complimentary and compatible partners. It's another level of the pyramid of needs that you build when compiling the image of your 'ideal' mate. You have to decide if the requirement is wide, or near the base of the pyramid, or sharp as a needle at the top. No matter where you put "finding smart..." on the pyramid, remember like any other layer, you disqualify more potential partners which each layer that you include.
