ORIGINAL: GoddessDustyGold The question, however, is, Popeye, will you have a problem when you have to pay more for your airline ticket because a High Court ruled that a private industry needs to provide 2 seats at the same price for a person who does not, perhaps, watch what they eat and take a 2-3 mile walk every day? Or are you okay with this? No one cares if you agree with Obama's tax plan. Try a different thread. Excuse Me? I do not see anywhere in this quote where I am speaking of Obama's Tax Plan. I did allude to it in an initial post as an example which I think stands on its own. Let's move on, shall we? That said, I will assume (and hope that I am not making an ass out of you and me) that you used the link to the posted article and read it. It said: quote:
Obese people have the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday. The high court declined to hear an appeal by Canadian airlines of a decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency that people who are "functionally disabled by obesity" deserve to have two seats for one fare. These are the first two paragraphs of the linked article. So it would be pretty hard to miss. It has already come up in the discussion that airlines will end up charging additonal on all seats to cover the extra cost of providing two seats for those who need it due to obesity issues. My question to Popeye was perfectly valid. He did not make any statements regarding the OP. He made a statement to indicate that he was fit. That did not have anyting to do with the questions at hand. The ultimate question here is whether or not people agree that a high government court should have the power to dictate to a private industry how they should charge for seating on their aircraft, and how that power may affect a portion of the population. You may well think they do. I do not.
