So if I am taking up 2 seats, then it stands to rights that I get 2 packets of peanuts and 2 cups of soda....and 2 smiles from the flight attendant etc.....that doesn't happen....I am getting the same service...plain and simple.

if I, for whatever reason, thought that I should be entitled to an entire airplane to myself...but I only recieved one packet of peanuts, one coke...and one smile from the flight attendant, would you believe that I am recieving the same service as someone who only had one seat in a crowded plane?

It would be my opinion that unless you have a medical condition (cannot help being obese) you should pay for the two seats.

Roselaure -> RE: Obese has right to 2 airline seats- (11/22/2008 8:43:15 PM)

I don't trust the airline with my luggage, let alone to make value judgments about who has a "medical condition" and who's just fat for no good reason.

I say the answer is that people are too interested in never being inconvenienced for even a moment and should be a bit more tolerant.  It also wouldn't hurt if the airlines removed a few seats from coach and made everyone a bit more comfortable.

How about issuing the passengers inflatable vests?  Some of us wimmin folk on CM come already equiped with 2 of those.

here's a question...what would you do in the case of an emergency landing if your plane was full of people who could not fit into one seat?

if they can't fit into one seat, how easily will they make their way through the emergency exit?

I give up.  Text does not show irony.  Apparently not even in context of the entire post.

Hello???  Tongue in cheek!

I've heard people suggest and praise similar ideas on these forums many times. I just thought it was more of the same.

I'd say producing a doctors note or certificate would work pretty well myself.

why should people with a 'medical condition' be given a free seat while no one else is awarded the same privilege?

Due to it not being their fault. I believe that anyone who has special requirements on a plane for medical reasons should be given them.
You are just being an arrogant ass.

Lynnxz -> RE: Obese has right to 2 airline seats- (11/22/2008 8:55:17 PM)

I don't know... I think that plan could lead to a lot of abuse.

I think the seats in general could be a little larger. I nearly went nuts on a 12 hour flight, ugh what a mess.

missturbation -> RE: Obese has right to 2 airline seats- (11/22/2008 8:58:44 PM)

Isn't everything open to abuse. Better to just charge obese people for two seats or better to try and help those for who it is medical?

If you want to make me pay more for the same service that everyone is getting, then you don't really want my money.

you aren't receiving the same service as I would. I only get one seat. You get two. that's a different service. but if you view this as unfair, I would suggest that you and other large people not fly on airlines who would make you pay for the extra space. if enough people stop buying tickets, perhaps you would find an airline who would want to accomodate you and get your money. forcing other people to do with their property what you want them to do (with no regard to their wishes) is qutie selfish.

If you had read the REST of what I wrote, I said that I don't fly, I drive where I want/need to go....so your advice is wasted on me.   Let me add for the record, my weight is pretty much evenly distributed throughout my 6'1 frame so I have no problems sitting in a seat because of my girth...its more about something I can't do anything about....the length of my legs......now, why should I have to pay more?  I am sure someone can figure some reason to squeeze an extra 100 bucks or so out of me for that.  Hell, why not, I have to pay more for longer length pants (I have a 38 inch inseam)

I'm not being an arrogant ass. what I am trying to get you to see is that this isn't an issue of what is "fair" for the flier. airlines are private property. they are owned by individuals. our opinions on what they should and should not are irrelevent. the only people who should decide how this situation is handled are the people who own the airlines. forcing them to do anything against their will with their property is unjust.

it's not their fault they have a medical condition, I agree. but what does this have to do with the situation we are talking about? I must be missing an integral step that tells me why someone having a medical condition means that it is just that they get an automatic 'buy one, get one free' in a random industry.

Then how do you weed out the people that just go to the doc and demand an excuse note? Personally, I can't even sit for an hour or so in a plane (or theater) without my leg locking up, I just ask for an aisle seat on the left, and hope I get it. I'm not about to demand someone give up a seat for me, even though it's nice when it's a light flight, and I get one.

Heh.. you should have seen my 6'10" friend on his last flight...not a happy man.

So this thread is nothing to do with whether obese people should be entitled to two seats if they need it?
Well fuck me with a feather i need to do me some skooling to understand the actual 'topic' of this thread.

I read the rest of what you wrote. I'm just questioning your statement about a large person getting a seat for free being the same service as someone who does not get a seat for free.

I will tell you why you have to pay more...because you are using more. it's really quite simple. I agree, you can't do much about it. but that isn't the issue here. the issue is concerning whether or not a certain group of people should receive a free seat. if the airline (NOT the government) says that you can have that free seat, I have no qualms whatsoever. now if a person who is not the airline (government officials) order the airline to change its policiy...I have quite a few qualms.

That's not what I'm saying, and you know it.

hopelessfool -> RE: Obese has right to 2 airline seats- (11/22/2008 9:12:05 PM)

After loosing an hour of my life Here goes my little rant.

I honestly had no idea this many people were this fucking stupid. Dear GODS. Im a fat fucker I can say that with pride, I also eat less take in maybe 900 cals a day, I dont drink soda, i dont eat to much corn syurp if any, i dont eat fast food i dont eat carbs, In fact i eat a very strict doctor regulated diet and  Exercise walking over 3 miles a day, heavy lifting at work as well as yoga a mile run on the tread mill and that evil stair step machine that i swear is out to kill me.... And guess what... In the last year ive been on this plan. Ive gained over 80 pounds. So Your bullshit theory cals in cals out doesnt work for everyone  sorry to say it. This eat healthy youll loose weight bullshit doesnt work for everyone. this blah blah blah your fat deal with it. Well Thank you I do. But seriously. So the court regognized that all people arent the fucking same. Woo hoo For them and made it easier for people who are larger to sit better. Now My sister flys all the time shes 5'3 and weighs 115 pounds and she cant fit in to a seat comfortable it clips her hips, NOW if your that fuckng small still cant fit do you Blame it on the fat people who cant fit or the fact they make the seats impossibly small for more people to be crammed in. I wont fly. So I dont have to worry, but if i did I wouldnt pay to have a bigger seat. Why? Because they dont make them to average people sizes not even SMALL people sizes. but to whats going to make them the most money per flight.

Its NOT about people being FAT... Its about the seats being made for two year olds, Its about people learning to acomidate its customers. You want two seats for the price of one in canada? wear like 60 layers of clothes and waddle in looking fat. YOU dont want to deal with someone getting a ticket for free.. Well then dont fucking fly in canada. Simple as that. Or dont fucking fly.

Sure people in america are fat fucks sure its not very pretty to see them bend over and see that they have a thong on. But really say fat people cant fly or make them pay more for it? Thats not discrimination? Honestly? Both ways its discrimination. you do it its discrimination you dont its discrimination. So why not make the seats people sized? I mean the one time i ever flew it was in a c 131 and i fit in that seat just fine.... in fact the 400 pound linebacker in our flight fit in his seat just fine, so why not just add some cushions and do it that way, adjusting it to be people sized instead of doll size.

I think we may be getting to one of the problems here. do you think they 'need' two seats? I would say that they 'want' two seats. now needs and wants are very different. what this boils down to is whether or not individuals should get a free seat because they want one.

um...is it better to have large people suffer (though I question if this is really suffering as they are willingly putting themselves into this situation by flying) or to have airlines suffer?
