Creepy that people quote opinion as if it was fact. Creepy that people take it seriously. And what do you mean with "Jewish... really?" ? Creepy.

There are tiers of PC some go too far and some are about right, people only ever seem to highlight extreme examples though to make it seem all trivial. You need to put all the achievements of being PC not just now but in the past too into the equation to judge it, we should have aspirations for progression as a society and that is at the root of being PC.

We'd be living in a different world without PC and I don't personally believe it would be a good one. Once upon a time it was considered ok to be racist, sexist, homophobic, I'd not like to back in those times where people felt isolated from popular culture because they were seen as an amusement. People can call it being PC but I call it being respectful so it’s funny how the older generation bleat on about how there isn't any respect in the world and then put their rose tinted specs on to remember how good it was to be able to disrespect someone based only on their culture, sex or sexuality.

People are free to be un PC being PC isn’t a law it just means someone un PC will be looked down upon for their lack of respect for others.

Would it help you to get over your issue, to know I am Jewish?

I asked why you said that in the first place. Why did you say that in the first place? I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation for writing what you wrote. I'm looking forward to reading it.

From one Jew to another, shalom.

Having one`s patriotism or love/support of our troops questioned because you criticize president bush is also political correctness. And a deadly form at that.

Conservatives use the term as a code for liberal in order to avoid defending their ideas or shabby behavior.

And like with most intellectually lazy folks, hypocrisy, double standards and short memories are essential.

Owner, that's true, that's why it's soooo much better being an *Independant*, you don't get tied up in that crap which is a huge waste of time! (Dem vs Repub)
You can't be a free thinker if you're a Republican or Democrat as you're "anchored" to their way of thinking i.e. "conservative vs liberal."
I love watching the "Libs" and "Cons" go at it, it's like watching two retards go at it with those big puffy boxing gloves on.
Hopefully over the next ten years we're going to see the Democratic and Republican parties fading into obscurity as the American People start to realise that they serve only themselves and not the country.

And who'll replace them? The "Constitution" party  ?

Marc, it doesn't work at all with me.
Whenever they start that shit I just give it right back to them; "Hey! Asshole! I find that extremely *offensive* now knock it the fuck off!"
"What the hell's wrong with you anyway?" Are you Anally- Retentive or something?
Do you remember that scene from "The Sopranos" when Tony's driving his daughter up to Maine to check out a college and she asks him about "Italians" and the "Mafia?"
He says; "That's a fuckin' stereotype and it's "*offensive!" LOLOL
Then while they're up in Maine he spots a guy who's hiding out up there in the witness protection program and "Whacks" him! lol!

Doesn't work that way with me either but, unfortunately, it does work on far too many people.

Actually, if there was ever a time in American history for an independent canidate to make a viable run for the White House, this would be it.  The advent of the internet, cell phones, and now twitter allows people to bypass the old media of newspapers and radio.  I think a independent who put forth a socially liberal (pro gay marriage, pro choice on abortion) but fiscally conservative (lower taxes, lower government spending) would have a good chance of forging an alliance of the middle.  Not saying it will happen, just saying it could.

I don't know why I am drawn to this particular shit-storm but here goes:
  • The only time I here anyone saying "PC" or "political correctness" is in some theoretical discussion which is usually slamming some group of "ultra-left-wing-nutjobs" that I seem to have never heard from. Or it's about some self-perceived threat of being controlled or subdued in some way.  I have never heard it discussed from someone who feels that were wronged on the side of not being treated in a "PC" way.
  • A friend of mine who teaches at NYU had a small class and they were discussing some writer.  The discussion turned to people wanting to know if race played in the interpretation of the author.  My friend made a statement something like "do any of the black students have a comment about how they understand the work?"  The white students just about lost their mind about the question, telling here they should be referred to as "african american."  My friend then asked each of the black students where they were from.  Two were from somewhere in the Carribean, one from Canada, one from the UK and one from somewhere on the African contenant.  All were here on student visas and none were even American citizens.  Also, all of them self-identified as being "black" and none had a problem with the term.
  • My kids (4th grade) are not allowed to touch any other kid at all -- not even a hug.  They do not understand this at all.  This policy did not come from parents, complaints or incidents.  It came from the school board lawyers who were afraid of law suits.
  • If someone tells me something i do or say is offensive or harmful to them in some way I try not to do that thing if I can.

Marc, that'd work for me!
In my younger days if someone were to attempt that "political correctness" crap on someone they'd probably end up getting the shit beaten out of them. I think we need to bring back fisticuffs as a way of "settling differances."
If someone ended up getting a few teeth knocked out of their head or knocked unconsious they wouldn't be doing that "political-correctness" B.S. would they? They're all "heros" until they get on their asses the first time.
I'd love to see two chicks going at it like that! Woo Whoo, "CATFIGHT!"

Hey! I haven't seen a good Catfight in a long time!
That gives me an idea for a new thread.

As for the rest, I confess that part of me would love to have lived in the pioneer days when the solution to an asshole giving you a hard time was your flintlock.

I am a firm believer is saying what you believe and think.  Scew the politicians who think otherwise.  Of course you have to use a little common sense, which seems to be lacking in a lot of people, but that is a whole other story.

It's my experience that the most vociferous protestors against political correctness tend to be white anglo-saxon men.

Kittin, that excludes me I'm Celtic on both sides although I am "white". My father's people go back with the "Doherty" Clan for probably a thousand years and the same with my mother's people the "McDonough" Clan.
And the biggest supporters for this kind of assinine, ANAL-RETENTIVE type of "thinking" can be found in the anglo-saxon white females with some type of "degree" many  times in the "soft sciences" in a uni/college setting or some field that "tax supported."
ANYONE with an i.q. higher than "90" should be against this crap.
And trying to say that not using racial or ethnic slurs is "politically correct" is just cowardice, it's trying to hook your wagon onto someone else's cause in hopes of support or legitimacy!
How many protests have you seen by the;..."politically correct?"
You can't tell me that those "pc" retards don't go walking around in public with Butt Plugs inserted in their Anal Orifices constantly rearranging the silverware when they go out to eat and probably not at a steakhouse!
If they don't want to be ridiculed for it then they shouldn't be spouting that nonsense!
The *funniest* thing about Anal-Retentive people is that they *don't even realise* that they're acting that way!
"Anal-Retentive?" "What's that?"     "YOU!!!"
Oh, Kittin, when was the last time you were in a good Cat Fight?

Such anger  ! You're right, let me correct myself: "It's my experience that the most vociferous protestors against political correctness tend to be white men with an inferiority complex."
