Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/25/2006 4:19:43 PM)

"Fletcherize" looks like an eponym, and I don't know it.

OK, I looked it up.  It's an eponym, and I didn't know it.

The "woof" is one side of a loom.  The other is called the "warp."  On a typical warp-weighted loom, the pattern to be woven is determined by the warp, not the woof (sometimes called "weft").

I guess Tikkiee goes again.

Edited to add...no, as long as we're doing eponyms, I'll throw one out: "crapper."  (Hint here.)

Tikkiee -> RE: Word Fight (4/25/2006 4:42:56 PM)

LOL Thomas Crapper, a plumber. Though the word was in use long before he was even born, because of his 'profession' and the word, they became tied together.

Here's another one;

"boycott"

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/25/2006 6:37:00 PM)

Yeah, another eponym.  I assume we all know what "boycott" means though.

Next one..."stentorian"

candystripper -> RE: Word Fight (4/25/2006 6:46:41 PM)

loud, exremely loud.

new word: ephiphany

candystripper

yourMissTress -> RE: Word Fight (4/25/2006 6:50:54 PM)

As I explained on another thread, I have a stentorian voice.

next: caterwauling

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/25/2006 6:55:12 PM)

An "epiphany" is a (sudden) recognition of something profound.

"Caterwauling" means screeching like cats.

Next one..."subreption"

candystripper

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/25/2006 10:46:32 PM)

I looked up "subreader."  It's not what I thought.

candystripper -> RE: Word Fight (4/26/2006 2:45:57 AM)

bandit25 -> RE: Word Fight (4/26/2006 3:34:45 AM)

Yeah, I looked it up too.

Tikkiee -> RE: Word Fight (4/26/2006 5:17:20 AM)

LOL I am guessing here. Is that like a paralegal or an assistant?

candystripper -> RE: Word Fight (4/26/2006 5:23:08 AM)

"subreader" is one who reads the texts from which legal discourse will be made in the Inns of Court.

i still think we should recycle it.

candystripper.  (someone else's turn.)

Takethiswaltz -> RE: Word Fight (4/26/2006 5:52:58 AM)
