OK, "onychophagia" has to mean "eating fingernails" (it could also mean "eating toenails"--yuck), but it sounds like a word that some doctor invented.

Yup, I was right.

"Oniomania" is a cute word, also coined.  Late 19th cent.

Next one..."tibicinate"

actually it's not eating fingernails but the pratice of biting nails  (but close)....

as far as your word... I leave that to someone else. Where's Tikkiee, she's normally good at these words?

Well, it SHOULD mean "eating fingernails."  The suffix "-phagia," from Greek phagein, means "eating."  (So, for example, "coprophagia" means "eating shit.")

And I have no answers for Ron's timeless questions.  Why isn't "dress up" the opposite of "dress down"?  Why isn't "in-law" the opposite of "outlaw"?

To "tibicinate" means "to play the part of a tibicen"; and a "tibicen" is "someone who plays a tibia."  What's a tibia?  Glad you asked.  OED defines it as "An ancient (single or double) flute or flageolet."

I didn't know "furphy," and it's listed as slang.  I'd say slang words don't count.

"Ozonolysis" has to be another one of those pesky science words.  Based on the roots, I'd say it refers to some kind of chemical process affecting ozone.

Well darn, I did not know it was just a slang word. The guys from mythbusters use it all the time lol.
 
And yes, ozonolysis is the technique where ozone is used to oxidize an organic material. You are up :)

Being used by Shakespeare is NOT a good argument for something being a word. Shakespreare's vocabulary is approximately 2.5 times that of the Oxford Dictionary. MANY of the words we use in everyday conversation were coined by the Bard (such as "upstairs"), but not everything stuck, and one man's gibberish is not a word until it's accepted into use by the rest of the civilization or, in the case of coloquialisms, region.

So there.

Tikkiee is close enough.  It's something that looks better than it is.  Like an out of state tuition waiver.

I've seen this used in print two different ways. 

In high school, they told us it was the people who were opposed to getting rid of the church of England. 
But I read an essay in Harper's a few weeks ago that used it to talk about people who were opposed to opposing any kind of state religion.

Basically, these are the anti-anti people.

(Yeah... if you take it apart the Latin makes a lot of sense. Anti (against)+ dis (against)+ establishment (root)+ arian (person who)+ ism (belief in)=people who don't like people who don't like the establishment.)
