DemonKia -> RE: America's favorite drama queen in the news again (6/24/2009 11:46:03 PM)

Bristol Palin, staying out of the limelight. [8D] & [8|]

From the above link: "The network interview was Bristol's idea, the teen said. And she apparently sprung the news to her parents that she was going to speak publicly the day before the network taping."

& Bristol Palin, abstinence ambassador

From the second link: "...I just want to go out there and promote abstinence..."

(For whatever it's worth, I just grabbed the first coupla links after googling . . . .. )

It's a well-established standard that entering into the public eye makes one fair game for observation, comment, parody, & etc . . . . . . All encompassing privacy is for those who stay out of the limelight, like it or not . . .. . . . Sorta like posting to message forums: don't wanna let others attack ones stated beliefs / opinions / etc? Don't post to a message fora. Don't wanna be the subject of comedians' jokes? Don't seek out publicity . . .. . . .

& note that this putting of herself in the public eye ostensibly has nothing to do with her mother's political campaigning, this is a public role that Bristol is seeking out all on her own . . .. .

I would say when/if the Palin children began to step into the light to campaign for thier mother they are valid targets.

That's precisely why she *is* a valid target. She has been on numerous talk shows by herself talking about her "relationship" as well as championing the abstinence cause which places her squarely in the 'do as I say, not as I do' camp. That makes her a WONDERFUL object of jokes and insults and ridicule.

Her...NOT her daughters.  As someone else noted, I also didn't think it was right for those on the right who poked fun at Chelsea, nor those on the right who poked fun at Amy Carter or those on the left who loved to find out every single thing the Bush twins were up to.  Go after the candidate all you want...hell, go after their partner if their partner speaks up and addresses issues...but leave the kids alone.

I'm thinking that maybe what Rob is failing to grasp is that I was making fun of Palin, by suggesting that comparing her to Perez Hilton is an insult to Hilton. Maybe it just went over his head. But if  that's not what happened, then I'm back to being totally bewildered by what he said.

No, I got your dig, and my reply pointed out your fallacy of pretending Palin rates lower than Hilton.

Hilton is a wanna be celebrity blogger, Palin is a Governor of a US state. You're implying that a US Governor rates lower that a celebrity wanna be, and they shouldn't be compared, because it makes Hilton out to look like a genius, and Palin a fool.

LOL
ok, lets take this in turn here
1. Perez has managed to make a major impact on the media by doing something that he always wanted to do.
2. Palin has managed to make a major impact on the media by being so mind-bogglingly stupid that there is serious debate going on over whether or not she was dropped on her head as a baby.

1. A Governer is only as important as the choices they make.
2. A Gossip Colunmist is as important as the people make them,

It is impossible to be a wanna-be when you are actually getting paid for what you want to do. Perez makes a living off of being a celebrity blogger, that kinda raises his status above "wanna be" since he is ACTUALLY doing it, and, by whatever standards there are for it, doing it quite well. I dont like his site, and I dont read it, but obviously quite a few people do, since even now he doesnt need a "day job" to pay his rent

If the woman(ish)/Palin can't take media (which fuels the career she claims to want) seriously...

as proven by her "exploits" in "interviews"...

then since the media is the conduit to all of you, on this thread,

and thus Palin proves she doen't give a shit about you,

and does not take any of it seriously,

why take any of THS thread ABOUT her seriously?

I mean, seriously?
\
If what's good for the gander is good for the goose, and she treats you all like a bunch of slavering sex-addicts, then should we not limit our treatment of HER to that of a sex-object?

Especially considering she evokes statements claiming to be pro-meritocrat?  When under a true meritocracy, she'd be limited to the role of a naughty sex-worker for the blue-collars dressed up as white colars ala "The Naughty Baroness and BUggering Baron" manner of fantasy?

HPH you rock

I dont see her as a sex object, but that may just be that I like a bigger booty than she got :P

The smartest guy in the whole world had to throw in his two cents:

quote:

WASHINGTON - A jovial U.S. Sen. John Kerry must have been channeling his inner Letterman Tuesday when he quipped the wrong governor had gone missing. The Bay State Democrat was regaling a group of business and civic leaders invited to the Capitol on the bizarre disappearance of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who was said to be hiking the Appalachian Trail.

“Too bad,” Kerry said, “if a governor had to go missing it couldn’t have been the governor of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin.”

The Democratic-centric crowd chuckled.
