Hmmm. I didn't know that you believed that the New York Times was a lying rag-sheet ... Some on the right have stated as much. quote:
You guys can squirm all you want, claim all kinds of stuff, but the fact is that the rally had many more "regular" people show up than the wildest expectations. And they weren't even paid to show up! Granted, more showed up than were expected. Doesn't actually mean that much really. quote:
Ya know, I really kinda like that you guys so underestimate the discontent out there. It'll help make you make false projections and plans. When the economy picks up, most of that discontent will fade. Arpig, It's possible it won't mean that much, in the long run. It's also possible that the economy will pick up and it will fade away. But I'm not sure I'd lay odds on either of those two things. First, the basics of the economy really aren't that changed from before the billions of bailouts. I read an article the other day, that the economist that predicted the current situation is saying that it very likely that we are heading for a slight improvement, followed by a sustained downtrend. Primarily because nothing has really changed, especially with the large banks. They are as exposed as before, and even more concentrated. As well, and especially if the current administration is able to pass "Health Care (Insurance) Reform" close to what has been proposed (in any of the proposals), then the effects will not be good, economically. Plus, the "Bush" tax cuts are due to expire next year (instant tax increase). My medium projections is that the Dem's will lose some seats next election, but (maybe) still have control. If they continue on their policies of increased taxation, pulling more and more of the economy under government control, pass Cap and Trade, and achieve some of there other legislative desires ... then we are in for several more years of a worsening economy. Generally, politics don't "settle down" when the economy gets worse. The contrary, actually. I strongly suspect that the protest we've seen so far as just the tip of the iceberg. Firm
