fast reply...

One day, I hope, some of you folks and most of the press, will learn the difference between bigotry and racism.

Of course racism is a much more powerful word, and who cares if one uses it incorrectly as long as it pushes the agenda[8|]?

If some one dislikes you because of the color of your skin, that is bigotry.

If someone prevents you from buying a sofa, that's racism.

We have too much bigotry for my liking but honestly, tell me where the racism is?

Oh, I don't know.

Are we really pretending that fact?

Now, what was this about no racism?

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one who regards or treats members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.[1] Bigotry is the corresponding mindset or action.

The term bigot is often misused to pejoratively label those who merely oppose or disagree with the devotion of another. The correct use of the term, however, requires the elements of obstinacy, irrationality, and animosity toward those of differing devotion.

Although the term racism usually denotes race-based prejudice, violence, discrimination, or oppression, the term can also have varying and hotly contested definitions. Racialism is a related term, sometimes intended to avoid these negative meanings. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each racial group possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another racial group or racial groups. The Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular racial group, and that it is also the prejudice based on such a belief. The Macquarie Dictionary defines racism as: "the belief that human races have distinctive characteristics which determine their respective cultures, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism

Your definitions are a little bit off.

Come now, Rule....haven't we seen that Obama is such a racist that he hasn't appointed a single white man to an important post in his administration? No wonder some people are so worried.

Why do I have to explain recent history to you. Are you foprgetful, or are you being purposely obtuse?

Sotamayor's quote wherein she claimed to be wiser than a white man, combined with the fact that Obama didn't withdraw her nomination immediately after it surfaced, is the most offensive aspect of the Sotamayor scandal.

That's not what she claimed.

She was addressing a Hispanic audience about Hispanic issues.

Her claim was she could understand their issues better.

Absolutely shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to worry stella...we are only one generation away from the end to this type of silliness. Soon my generation…the enlightened ones… will be at the top of the generation ladder. The power of the WWII generation will be gone and institutionalized racism with them…God rest their souls.

racism is a last bastion of the thematically and philosphically "challenged" and lazy (as fuck).

as in, "Frat Boys" and Bimbos who carry their "pom-poms" into post High School/College life, and they love the "social tier" system.

Until you eliminate the allure of  Frat Crap and Bimbo Bullshit - both of which are simply LAZY - from the majority of the USA populace, and remove the REWARDS for being a retardo-jock or cum-on-chin dribbling chicktwit, you will have RACISM.

Because it is for them an intellectual FOODSTAMP they can redeem at every 7-11 or Piggily-Wiggily's.

What is sad is that someone in such a position can be so blatantly racist and yet there are so many who eagerly step up to defend him, and probably just for political reasons.

So to recap, you called Obama racist, and by saying your talking B/s I am politically motivated.

Seems like spin to me.

That wont wash Firm. You cant claim that one in three being victimised is ever equal to one out of one, no matter how you spin it. Sure the totals may be the same but no statistician will back your claim, individualist or otherwise.

According to wikipedia:

White alone 74% 221.3 million
Black or African American alone 13.4% 40.9 million

30% of 221.3 million = 66.39 million
100% of 40.9 million = 40.9 million

So, according to you, it is better to discriminate against 66 million, than 41 million?

How about discriminating against none?

Firm

Not quite, according to me your continued claim that racism against 100 % of any one group, is equal to racism against 30% of a larger group is skewed in the extreme.

Sanity -> RE: Matthew Norman: The insanity and enduring racism of the American right (9/20/2009 3:55:24 AM)

Jimmy Carter can make blanket accusations of racism against "many white people" who disagree with Obama without any evidence, and you on the left cheer him on...

Yet, its been well documented that Barack Obama has been intimately acquainted with racists such as Jeremiah Wright and Van Jones for at least the past twenty years, and you act like its an outrage that I would dare to call Obama into question.

How do you guys keep all your double standards figured out. Lets face it, you've got so many of them...

And if these myriads of double standards aren't politically motivated, as you insist, what shall we blame them on?

I can actually think of one of the "you on the left" who didn't cheer him on. One person on the left actually came out and strongly disagreed with the charge. That person was Barack Obama.

I don't expect you to say "I agree with Obama on this matter." I know that even thinking those words would probably make your head explode.

Back to guilt by association. Didn't you claim to have marched in a local 9/12 event? It's been established that those events included racists. By your own standard what does that make you?

tazzygirl -> RE: Matthew Norman: The insanity and enduring racism of the American right (9/20/2009 8:26:19 AM)

1) I never claimed Carter was right.
2) I never claimed Wilson was a racist.
3) Based upon both men's history, I can see why many would believe Wilson's remark was racially motivated. Its hard to see why Carter's would be.

Sanity -> RE: Matthew Norman: The insanity and enduring racism of the American right (9/20/2009 8:33:40 AM)

Obama came out in agreement with me because I'm pretty sure that I "came out and strongly disagreed with the charge" well before he did, in the Carter thread as a matter of fact, post number eight.

It's simply stating the obvious to say that Carter's a fool, so of course Obama would say I am right.

Obama has been associated intimately with racists for twenty years. That's the same in your eyes as being in a crowd of millions that might include a handful of racists?

Your sense of proportionality is way off, ken. You might want to get it checked.

How fortunate that you came out with your condemnation of what I agree was an incredibly stupid remark from Jimmy Carter. It gave the POTUS the opportunity to jump on your bandwagon.

C'mon, Sanity, he came out with his disagreement with the statement and he did it good and quick. At least give the man that much credit.

Sanity -> RE: Matthew Norman: The insanity and enduring racism of the American right (9/20/2009 8:44:52 AM)

I was happy to see Obama condemn Carter in the strongest possible terms, Spinner.

Obama doesn't get everything wrong, hardly anyone does.

tazzygirl -> RE: Matthew Norman: The insanity and enduring racism of the American right (9/20/2009 8:46:08 AM)

When did you come out with a disagreement, Sanity? i looked and simply cannot find that post. maybe i missed it. Mind hooking me up with a link?
