Im confused here Spinner. They mention Obama once, related to his message of hope and him being both black and white.

Go now, fly free!
Study! Watch! Learn! Keep your eyes open!
Education is the key!
Education is the secret!
Education is the way!
Education is the path!
Can I make America better?
Can I make America better?
Can we make America better?
Yes! Yes we can!
Yes! Yes we can!

How is that indoctrination? Isnt that what we want our children to believe?

To that part I say yes, tazzy. However I am still bothered by the mention of Obama in relation to it. I can't help but think (and I can hardly believe I'm letting myself in for what I'm going to get for saying this) of how I would react if I heard a song that said

The terrorists attacked us
But we will not be beaten
George Bush is here to protect us
And fight those who attack us all
We will fight for our liberty
We will stop Saddam Hussein
We will keep America strong
We will stop them from killing again.
Can I keep America safe?
Can I keep America safe?
Can we keep America safe?
Yes we will.

It's not a bad idea to keep America safe from terrorists. It's not a bad idea to speak of defending ourselves. But by bringing in Bush's name, it marries his policies to the achieving of those goals. Likewise, marrying Obama to the goals of education and positive change plants the seed that his policies are the way to do so. Whether you or I believe this is the case, I do not feel comfortable seeing it done.

I feel we are far better off having a "don't teach political opinions to kids" rule in place in general.

WHOA!!! Lets not get crazy here-

I found that mental image to be rather arousing.

I pity you if you find the mental image of tazzygirl waving her 'holier than thou' ass in the air arousing. She comes across to me as deliberately confrontational and abrasive.

And I'm sick of her insults and I'm sick of Spinner insulting me in public and via c-mail.

But I guess you get off on different things than I do.. [:'(]

tazzygirl -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/29/2009 4:51:16 PM)

Part of me sees what you are saying. Part of me also realizes that his presidency is historical and precedent... teachers use whatever it takes to teach. How many children are now of mixed race? what better way to point out to children... see? education... and you can become anything. Even Obama.

While they may be over reaching a bit, i believe many are over reacting to what they want to see in these messages, and what they fear they are seeing.. or what they fear others may see.

Oh, there's no doubt that many are severely overreacting. The very title of this thread is overreacting (and while I can't claim to be completely innocent of provocative threadlines, the first posting quoting Adolph Hitler was a bit much). And if the point had been "Obama is of mixed race. He became president. So can you" I'd be all for it. It's when it creeps into the "Obama is president...things are going to get better" that I kind of lose my comfort level with it.

I still feel a proper reaction is a memo and a little restraint on the part of teachers in this matter.

tazzygirl -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/29/2009 5:22:27 PM)

A little restraint, yes. Perhaps a bit of caution since so many seem to fear what a 5 year old may remember when they are in a voting booth at age 18 and Obama is no longer eligible to run for office.

Golly!

And if I were as old as some of you and actually had school aged children who had been forced to sing Barack Hussein Obama's praises, I'd have been down there days ago pulling them out of that school to home school my kids (if I were old enough to have them),

But the rest of you just keep arguing and pontificating.  You are all doing a fine job of obscuring the real facts here.

In closing, I'll just reiterate that I'm not as old as the rest of you. If I were as old as the rest of you and had kids in that school, I would have pulled them out with a good ass kicking to the idiot teacher / mother / principal who thought this video was a good idea.

tazzygirl -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/29/2009 5:31:15 PM)

yes, your maturity is showing, your age is obvious.

my son is 23, he was homeschooled, for reasons beyond what is happening politically. if you had children, that would be your right to pull them out of school and to teach them as you saw fit. no one is debating that.

BeingChewsie -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/29/2009 5:55:51 PM)

Fast reply:

We didn't choose to home school for political or religious reasons beyond the fact that public schools teach to the lowest common denominator in the class and that wasn't working for us or for our son. I don't like a political agenda being pushed in school, I think it is inappropriate for teachers to push a political agenda in the classroom, they always have and they always will though. I do think when caught they need to get their hands slapped and be told to knock it off.

Leiren -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/29/2009 5:58:31 PM)

FR

To no one in particular:

If I had children, (repeat, repeat) I would have been down there the very day that video surfaced and pulled them out to home school them.

I would never allow any child of mine to mindlessly repeat slogans reminiscent of Hitler youth groups.

I continue to be amazed that some of you support this kind of activity for a sitting president who has yet to prove he's worthy of such mindless chanting and glassy eyed stares from children whose parents had no idea that they were being brainwashed until the video was finally posted on YouTube months later.

Again, IF I had children, I would be far more vigilant than the majority of you who have posted here.

tazzygirl -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/29/2009 6:01:55 PM)

And i homeschooled mine after picking him up from school with a bronchodialator in the nurses office and him with an o2 sat of 79%, because no one could "find" it and we were never called.

Teachers are human.. some slip a little.. some slip alot. Granted, the first song slipped alot... this second, a little. Then we have callers talking about picking up guns... we have posters talking about assault and battery. and i keep thinking... its a 5 year old kid... thwy wont remember squat about Obama when it comes to them voting.

I do believe many teachers are grasping at Obama as a teaching tool.. a way to get through to the kids. i honestly cant see how we can indoctrinate our elemntary school kids when the President in question can sit for no longer than 8 years.

Let's see...I saw children singing. I saw children looking like pretty much children. I seem to have missed the "glassy stares" of the "brainwashed".

I disagree with the song they were given to sing. However I can't see why all this "liberals are eating my kid's brain" hysteria is strictly necessary.Likewise, I find shouting "Hitler youth" usually doesn't advance a conversation towards resolution of problems.

Pulling a kid out of school and "kicking the teacher's ass" is hardly as reasonable a solution as presenting a complaint to the teacher's supervisors and having such things stopped. It may be less fun than an ass kicking, but it certainly would present a more beneficial lesson to children about how adults handle disagreements.

The Daily Show of  Sept. 28 had a very interesting point of view on all the hubub about the video in question... http://www.hulu.com/watch/98793/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-mon-sep-28-2009  it's worth watching if for no other reason than his take on Iran's secret facility buried under the town of Qum lmfao!!
