I am happy to celebrate that we have our first black president..no problem. I am however not into letting my kids be used as ploys in some political praise and worship jig.

Get a grip. This is nothing like that. This whole INTERNET thing is unmitigated right wing bullshit.

This is no more brain-washing or Obamamania than it was during Reagan and 'It's morning in America again' whatever the fuck that meant.

The right has nothing anymore to offer the American people but these emotional outbursts and make claims of what all of this means...a liberal dem as pres. AND he is black. OMG !!

When it has anything to do with my children and any political agenda, it's crossing the line. If it is brought into my public schools,(I can say MY because it's MY tax dollars that help pay for it) it's in the wrong place. I don't send them there for this, I send them there to learn. (that is if I sent my kids to public school to begin with, which I don't)

Why is it when someone disagrees with another, it's an emotional outburst or racism? That sounds more like a whining child that is throwing a tantrum than an adult able to have a rational conversation based on fact and not emotion.  I am getting so bored with those accusations running everywhere. I would have told you the same about Bush at times and Clinton was just..well, Clinton. Am I a racist for my opinion on those past presidents as well?

LOLOLOL

When I got done reading his post, I realized that he is like a 5 year old. Every thing he says is funny and cute but when It is all said and done; it serves no absolute value or purpose.

I'm an Obama supporter, and I think this singing lesson is completely inappropriate. It's one thing to honor major national heroes. It's quite another to teach children to sing the praises of a sitting President, whoever s/he is. I realize perfect objectivity is impossible, but I think teachers should endeavor to cover politics and current events as neutrally as possible.

Totally agreed. This is creepy at best, and downright alarming at worst. The teacher responsible for this idiocy has some seriously questionable judgment. If I had a kid in her class, I'd be down there the next morning meeting with the principal and demanding to know how this was allowed to happen and what was going to be done to make sure it didn't happen again. This is not what a public school is for.

I dunno about the "funny and cute" part.

When did September become Black History Month?

However, i know when to keep my mouth shut on things i know little about.

Apparently you don't because you keep talking. Perhaps you should look up history on dictators such as Hitler, Stalin, and Castro. In their school systems, they have/had kids sing songs and do school activities on their beloved dictator.

and just to piss you off, i will continue to keep on talking. [:D]

quote:

As I said before, you are not nor have you ever been on topic. Instead, you just spit you opinions "I just dont see the need to scream about a group of kids singing a song about the first Black President [page 3 of this thread]." Well, ok how about you prove you fallacy statement. Personally, I see propaganda and similarities to what communistic and fascist government do to their children at their schools compared to what happened there.

Your topic is that you wish to paint all schools as indoctrination centers. LOL.... you have no clue, really, you dont.

quote:

You must think that I think or that I said that Obama is behind this. Or, you think that the article suggested this. When in fact, he is not responsible for this. He meaning OBAMA. This is also another one of you opinionated points that has nothing to do with this discussion.

However, the thing that scares me the most is that there are probably other teachers who also do these types of activities.

What frightens me even more is that there could people in a higher possession of authority who would support this.

The most devastating aspect of this situation is that their are people like you who are to ignorant to see the truly bad affects that these type of indoctrination practices has on our nation and society as a whole. Rather, you sit there and say that this is for "black history month." In that song there is NOTHING to do with black history. So let me ask you this question, what is the song about?

Perhaps you should take your own advice and keep your mouth shut.

When you are man enough... ahem... to force me to keep my mouth shut, the maybe ill take your advice. until then, i will continue to type away. It makes no difference if it was for black history month... i asked.. what if. i happen to like what ifs... it can open a whole kettle of fish, so to speak.

this video was shot in february... not june. the kids clothing proves that in the video.

it was uploaded as early as august 24th, if not sooner... i havent checked all the sources on you tube. now, want to talk about the intelligence level of some people (since im too ignorant to notice dates and clothes that appear to be inappropriate for seasons) people have been calling a school Northwest Arkansas.

http://www.kfsm.com/news/kfsm-news-school-children-sing-obama-mixup,0,438509.story?track=rss

Now, what i do see in you is a wet behind the ear, snotty nose kid who has no clue what the world is truly about. you seem to think it began the moment you were born and no one could possibly know as much as you. life began before you. many of us have lived through this, and far worse, with no ill effects. i have said if the kids came up with this song, then great. if its the teachers, then yeah, there is a problem.

the problem with your analogy with Stalin, Hilter and the rest? The kids were forced by those leaders and their administration to sing those songs and all the rest. teachers were given no choices. schools were given no choices.

so, post your proof that Obama forced these kids to do this... or shut up about how its Hilter all over again.

I agree. It's the mindset of the teacher and those trying to defend this that I find troubling.

tazzygirl -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/25/2009 7:30:32 AM)

Im definitely not trying to defend what the teacher was doing. Im trying to understand it. Im also trying to understand why the lies behind the story... why come up now when it was obviously taped last february. It appeared, to me, like the one student was teaching it to the class. I dont believe enough of this story has come to light yet.

Im sorry too Master Kirata, i shouldnt have snapped like that. i do tend to play devil's advocate when i see some issues... people tend to believe in only one way of seeing things.

At this point, we dont know who wrote those songs. If its teachers, then i agree with you. If its the students... then what?
Come on, tazzy...you are being deliberately obtuse.  You know as well as I do trhat 1.)kids of that age make up silly songs to the melodies of songs they know, they don't make up songs of praise.  2.)the words of these silly songs rarely make sense and rarely rhyme.  3.)it is doubtful that the kids would string together all three full names of our President to perfectly fit the line that is supposed to be "Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World" and finally 4.)it was stated by school officials yesterday that while they would not say who wrote the new words for these songs, it "appeared" to have been done by school teachers involved in the assignment.

It is interesting you only notice one side of that equation.

Sorry for the late response, I lost track of this. It's not that I "only notice one side of that equation". I notice both sides. But you have seemed to me to display a uniquely condescending brand of "let's play nice" (or at least "nicer") while regularly posting nasty jabs that you seem to imagine are somehow amusing when they come from you instead of somebody else. If you feel that impression is inaccurate, you have nonetheless managed to create it in at least one reader. And I'll allow that maybe I just need to get to know you better.

Be well,

Kirata

The politics of it will never die. I just dont see the need to scream about a group of kids singing a song about the first Black President. I am surprised that months later it has become news. It doesnt surprise me that its coming to the boards now. It does surprise me that no one else noted the dates were off. Then again, it doesnt, because most will go with any ole story and not look for things like this as long as its sensational enough to cause a stir.
Another attempt at obfuscation.  What is important here is not the dates, it is what was done.  Who cares whether it was during Black History Month or during Labor Day or during the school's Annual Bake Sale?

mnottertail -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/25/2009 8:15:42 AM)

well more insanity, if we would have removed the 'indoctrination' of the pledge of allegiance, and the 'indoctrination' of creationism, perhaps we would not be on this slippery slope, now.

tazzygirl -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/25/2009 8:16:25 AM)

I dont know why it matters... why not ask Fox News who couldnt get the date right? Why not ask the other posters why the real date kept being an issue when some actually implied it was just in time for Obama's talk to the classrooms?

Why does the truth matter to me? Because one lie simply distorts the whole message and makes me doubt the intent behind the story. Obama had nothing to do with this assignment, yet so many want to try and steer it into that direction. And i hate having my intelligence insulted. Im just wondering why so many of you didnt call alot of this into question... unless of course its just easier to go with the flow.

As far as children not being able to string together those words... or able to compose such... it was on Ellen that i saw a 7 year old girl, Emily Bear, who composes her own music. While that is rare, it is an ability that children can possess.

Why don't you get a grip?  This is exactly like that as has been explained by several on here...and not just me but "lefties" such as Spinner and Arpig, though Spinner has a dismaying habit of stating things like "I don't think anyone on the right OR LEFT will be standing up for this" ( a paraphrase of his comment).

How about these comments from Mr.Rodgers, Spinner?

Didn't most of us here grow up with Schoolhouse Rock and Multiplication Rock?   Conjunction Junction, what's that function?  And so on.  Teaching with music and silly songs has been around for years now.  I don't see the whole thing as a big "Ode to Obama", but rather, just another "historical" song about an event in history, just like George Washington crossing the Delaware, Columbus sailing the ocean blue and I'm just a bill, I'm only a bill, and I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.....

Except that the songs barely mentioned the "event in history" (by which I assume you mean Obama's election). The songs really did read to me like the sort of crap sung about the leaders of less than free societies. Again its not so much that the songs were about Obama that bothers me, its that they are about a sitting President. Its inappropriate to have schoolchildren sing the praises of a President this way while he is still in office. Not just this President, but any President.

windchymes -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/25/2009 9:14:54 AM)

Well, I didn't hear the song or see the lyrics, so I honestly can't make a final judgement.  But the point I was trying to make was that songs have been used in education for practically ever.  It's an education tool, kids remember simple song lyrics much more easily than they remember facts.

But you're right, Arpig, I would like to hear the song or at least see the lyrics. If it's truly "singing praises" of the man himself than, no, it's inappropriate.  But if it's a simple little jingle to commemorate the event, then it could just be the teachers teaching a historical fact.

In 2004
Our president was a bore
In 2008
Our president is great

Or maybe not. [8|]

tazzygirl -> RE: Indoctrination centers (9/25/2009 9:26:10 AM)

Song 1:
Mm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama

He said that all must lend a hand
To make this country strong again
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama

He said we must be fair today
Equal work means equal pay
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama

He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama

He said red, yellow, black or white
All are equal in his sight
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama

Yes!
Mmm, mmm, mm
Barack Hussein Obama

Song 2:
Hello, Mr. President we honor you today!
For all your great accomplishments, we all doth say "hooray!"

Hooray, Mr. President! You're number one!
The first black American to lead this great nation!

Hooray, Mr. President we honor your great plans
To make this country's economy number one again!

Hooray Mr. President, we're really proud of you!
And we stand for all Americans under the great Red, White, and Blue!

So continue ---- Mr. President we know you'll do the trick
So here's a hearty hip-hooray ----

Hip, hip hooray!
Hip, hip hooray!
Hip, hip hooray!

here ya go!
