Media matters isn't exactlywhat you might call a nonpartisan site:

quote:

Along with former MoveOn consultant Tom Matzzie and John Podesta's Center for American Progress, it is behind Progressive Media, a liberal messaging campaign launched in 2008 and expanded in 2009 to become a 'war room' for promoting the foreign and domestic policies of Barack Obama.

Do you have anything that isn't from such a blatantly far left organization? Not that I distrust them or think that they'll twist things and creatively edit them to suit an agenda or anything...

Okay, you got me. Thats exactly it.

Every network and newspaper has op-ed content, so that's just your opinion.

Fox News argued in court for the right for the news to knowingly lie. It is an American right "ministry of truth" that packages news information like a sports program, spinning anything and everything to its own agenda. It's an atrocious organisation where professional journalism is very much the back seat to ideology. They deal frequently in misinformation, smears and fear to ensure the continuation of the American right. It's all gut before reason, it's self contradictory (it calls the mainstream media the liberal media and then claims it has the largest audience), it's authoritarian and libertarian when it's talking about its own side vs the other sides. It's dreadful, and anyone who defends it should be ashamed of themselves.

People don't read an editorial column for the news.

I think we've gone through this discussion here before but the art of simply reporting the news without bias is long gone. For a news reader to react at all to a story, even simply through facial features, is biased reporting. Look back in history the best reporters are the ones where you don't know what they think because what they think is unimportant in reality. Otherwise it becomes a celebrity personality game i.e. this news reporter reacted with incredulity when reporting this story thus the idea in this story is ridiculous; you don't have to think about it because the person reporting it has thought about it for you and told you through their reaction what to think.

Is that why DHS labeled Liberitarians and Ron Paul supporters as right wing terrorists? Is that why people getting pulled over for having a Gadsden Flag sticker on their car.

Once again half truths and hysteria replace reason and accuracy. The DHS did not lable libertarians nor Ron Paul supporters as right wing terrorists. They did say that there was a fringe group that tended to identify with those principals who might be sources of possible violence. Of course, people who carry loaded firearms to political demonstrations or speak of how we need a violent revolution to "take the country back" are certainly worth the attention of a department who's job is discovering terrorists threats before another Timothy McVey decides to exercise his free speech rights by blowing up a skyscraper. It is convenient for those on the right who wish to portray themselves as victims, however, to shout "They're calling us all terrorists! They're coming to get us!" That they are allowed to do so mererly reinforces my point that their first amendment rights are being taken away. They have the freedom to tell lies and are using it at every turn.

As for the pulling over of people for nothing more than having a Gadsen flag sticker on their car, I have heard nothing about this and would invite some citation from any reasonably reputable news source. In this case, I would even accept Fox News in that category.

Once again, there is nothing being done to silence conservative speech or thought. The constant plaint that there is is either a political tactic, a case of extreme paranoia or an out and out lie.

Sorry, it is not half-truth or hysteria. http://www.infowars.com/images/scan0023.jpg This is taken strait from DHS internal memo. I dont have any news lings about the man getting pulled over fog gadsden flag sticker, it was in the news a year ago it happened in Luisiana.

The White House may have to expand their news enemies list.

Chicago Sun Times:
Take, for example, all the talk of inheriting the worst economy since the 1930s crisis. That came in response to the news that the federal deficit hit $1.4 trillion.Yet just a few months ago, the Obama camp was singing a little different tune. It was under criticism for the $787 billion stimulus package it bulldozed through Congress on grounds that massive spending was needed to keep the unemployment rate from breaching 8 percent. When joblessness hit 9.5 percent in June, Vice President Joe Biden said, "We misread how bad the economy was."They inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression, or the economy turned out to be worse than they thought. Which is it? It can't be both -- unless your brain is completely addled by the Obama charisma.

Obama is still popular, but polls show the public losing faith in his policies. Another indicator was a ''Saturday Night Live'' skit lampooning Obama for the major accomplishments of his administration -- "jack and squat." If the honeymoon is ending with the American voter, it isn't for obsequious elements of the mainstream media. CNN prostrated itself by fact-checking the ''SNL'' comedy skit.

Again, if broadcasters don't have "the right to lie" they can be endlessly sued and harrassed for every typo and miscue by every two-bit hack lawyer. It would place a ridiculous burden on them and it would be the end of free speech as we know it.

Yes, they twisted themselves into knots to do that and yet...oddly...they never bothered to factcheck the "authentic" Rush quotes.  Hmmmmmm...I wonder why that is, don't you Merc?

Oh, I bet I KNOW...they had to fact-check the Obama skit because comedic truth might tarnish the Obamessiah glow whereas falsehoods spouted by those on the "good" side of the aisle about racist remarks made by a conservative could only ruin that man's business opportunities.

In this case CD,there was no business opportunity....this was a non starter from the begining
Apparently Rush himself was aware of this....if his version of events and conversations with Checkets would indicate.

Sanity -> RE: White House advisers say Fox News is not news (10/20/2009 12:21:46 PM)

You're claiming that Limbaugh knew that the White House would send in its team of race baiting morons and fools to try to disrupt his bid, and that it would be successful?

You might be right, in that case.

It is amazing how ,no matter the subject...or the facts, you can inject anti-Obama anti-Democratic party bullshit into every story. Please show in any way shape or form the White House hand in Rush's failed attempt to buy into an NFL team

I doubt they thought of it or had a hand in it, but I'd bet they are grateful for it.

Without Rush's attempted NFL 'crisis' or the FOX News conspiracy crisis people may be paying even more attention to things like the economy, unemployment, the deficit, Afghanistan casualties and troop commitment/deployment delay, or even the health care bill.

Under the circumstances this is great for the Administration, even if more and more people don't like the results.

Smith sends e-mail detailing opposition

During a 15-minute counterattack at the start of his show, Limbaugh said he believes he's been made an example by a players' union seeking leverage in talks over a new collective bargaining agreement. What happened to him was an illustration of "Obama's America on full display," the commentator said.
Limbaugh's history hurt his participation in the bid. In 2003, he was forced to resign from ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown" after saying of the Eagles' Donovan McNabb: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."
According to transcripts posted on his Web site, in 2007 Limbaugh said: "The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it."
Limbaugh blamed Smith, executive director of the NFLPA and an "Obama-ite," along with Sharpton and Jackson, whom he referred to as "race hustlers," for Checketts' decision to drop him. He said his sacking was an example of the political clout wielded by President Barack Obama's administration.

I dont suppose any of these things had anything to do with Rush not being allowed to continue with the purchase.

Do you have any logical argument to support this, or are you going to just state it as fact? A typo is not repeating a known lie and the case didn't hinge on the idea that it was.

I sometimes wonder if people read their own citations. I read yours, twice. In no way does this say all conservatives are terrorists. It doesn't even say all militia members are terrorists. It does outline some of the things that can be looked for if one is concerned about terrorism from the right wing lunatics just as they have memos outlining what can be looked for if one is seeking out Islamic lunatics. As for your citation that there may have been a case somewhere, sometime in Louisiana where somebody was stopped perhaps for the decal he was driving on, forgive me if I don't consider that the mass rounding up of conservatives.

Once again, I ask to be told what governmental steps are being taken to rob anyone of their first amendment rights. So far it seems that it is just a lot of 'poor me' from a bunch of people who have little to 'poor me' about.

Interesting comments considering Sourcewatchs view of Fox News.

quote:

"Fair and Balanced"
Fox News Channel promotes itself under the slogan "fair and balanced", but examinations of the channel's guest selection have found notable imbalances towards Republicans and conservatives. In 2001, media watch group Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting studied the guestlist of FNC's flagship news program, Special Report, it found that Republicans made up 89 percent of Fox News' partisan guests, outnumbering Democrats 50 to 6. Avowed conservatives made up 71 percent of guests.

I have to agree on this point. Rush is not delusional. He's as good at his act as a pro wrestler on the mike and knows exactly what he's doing.  As for virulent, it's not his fault that some are gullible enough to mistake his trash for truth.
