Hannity's new promo: "Tune into Fox for all the news that isn't White House approved."

I'm still waiting for him to be waterboarded.

Again, if broadcasters don't have "the right to lie" they can be endlessly sued and harrassed for every typo and miscue by every two-bit hack lawyer. It would place a ridiculous burden on them and it would be the end of free speech as we know it.

Seriously, go back and read what you just wrote.

Why shouldn't they be sued and harassed for every miscue, it's their job to get the facts and report them correctly.

Sanity -> RE: White House advisers say Fox News is not news (10/20/2009 8:56:56 PM)

You seriously can't think of any reasons on your own?

Try this - there is no ultimate truth, therefore there would be no end to possible lawsuits conceivably shutting down every blog, every newspaper and news magazine, every news program on TV...

No more High Times, no more Rolling Stone. MTV and the Grammys would imperil themselves if they let anyone speak. No more late night comedians... no science journals.

You wouldn't just take away the right of people you disagree with to speak, you would be taking away everyones rights.

I actually have to agree on this one. It is almost always far less harmful to let an organization spout bullshit than give the government the authority to decide what is and isn't bullshit. Add the power to actually do something about it and you have a dangerous situation indeed.

Free speech is our most basic freedom. That means even people like Larry Flint and Fox News are protected by it. It's just one of the prices we pay for living in a free society. It has been said, and very wisely, the answer to false speech is true speech, not less speech.

Soooooooo...............let me see if I understand.

You have been on a constant crusade against "liberal media bias" for as long as I can remember.

But when it concerns Fox then we should defend their right not only to bias, but outright lies.

Okay.

But then don't ever let me hear you complain about media bias again.

Sanity -> RE: White House advisers say Fox News is not news (10/20/2009 9:37:18 PM)

No, you don't understand.

I would defend a Liberals right to speak, even to lie. But by that same token I have every right to speak out against their lies and their bias.

And by that same logic, doesn't the White House have a right to speak out against Fox's lies and bias?

Well of course they have the RIGHT, RML, but it appears they don't have the sense not to exercise the right.  They took a week, talked it over, and still decided to be stupid.

My bet?  This is going to blow up in their faces.  I will be reserving the right to exercise my freedom of speech when it does.  [:D]

We can all come to our own conclusions here Sanity......no need for me to point fingers.

I have to agree on this point. Rush is not delusional. He's as good at his act as a pro wrestler on the mike and knows exactly what he's doing.  As for virulent, it's not his fault that some are gullible enough to mistake his trash for truth.

Sorry Spinner,I like the sound of "delusional and virulent"....now "smear" I happen to take offence too...but thats just me.

Obama really doesn't like the Democratic process, does he?

Here's more of his shut up, sit down, do what I tell you attitude:

quote:

“We should never again have to face potential calamity because of the reckless speculation and deceptive practices and short-sightedness and self-interestedness from a few,” the president said. "So if there are members of the financial industry in the audience today, I will ask that you join with us in passing what are necessary reforms -- don’t fight them, join us on it.

“I want all non-Democrats who may be here or may be watching to know that I believe in a strong and loyal opposition. I believe in a two-party system where ideas are tested and assumptions are challenged. That’s how we strengthen our proposal.  That’s how a democracy works but what I reject -- what I don’t have a lot of sympathy for is folks who are just sitting on the sidelines and rooting for failure.”

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/10/obama-targets-wall-street-those-who-block-health-care-reform.html

Say it in unison - "YES DEAR LEADER, WE DO AS YOU SAY."

mmm mmm mmm

HUGE difference between those two statements.  When you stop reading things into statements and taking things out of context, you may find some things arent quite what you believed, Sanity.

They have a right to prove that what is said are lies and bias.  But to target an organization?  To marginalize it? (straight out of one of Obama's mentors' books) To make an enemy of it?  That harkens back to Nixon's enemies list and no, I don't think the White House has a right to target things that way.  When they do, they are doing so in behalf of the citizens of this country and there are many...including me...that believes government has NO business interfering in private industry unless it is breaking the law.

What's to stop reading into or taking out of context from either of those two statements the very strong implication/inference that Obama doesn't want to hear any opposition to what HE considers are necessary reforms but, rather, Obama wants everyone to shut up and go along with whatever HE wants?   When you look at Obama's overall scheme, "In five days we begin fundamentally transforming the United States of America" (Barcak Obama, October 30, 2008), you may see "CHANGE - You Can Believe In" isn't quite what you had in mind.

Sanity -> RE: White House advisers say Fox News is not news (10/21/2009 8:31:15 AM)

I get visions of Jim Jones out in the jungle when I read Obama's words there.

Or some kind of a zombie chorus.

"Join us..."

The White House does indeed have a right to speak out against what it considers Fox's (or anyone's) lies and bias.  However, for Obama's White House to target, marginalize and make an enemy of Fox News is indeed straight out of one of Obama's mentors' book, his mentor Saul Alinsky's book in fact.  Not only does that harken back to Nixon's enemies list but, combined with Obama's White House targeting and marginalizing and making an enemy of anyone who opposes it, that in fact makes Nixon's enemies list pale in comparison.  Additionally, if not moreover, when Fox (or anyone) offers the White House the opportunity to publically discuss/prove what it considers Fox's (or anyone's) lies and/or bias and the White House doesn't avail itself of said opportunity then it's the White House which appears to be the entity that's lying and biased.  When the White House does that they are indeed doing so on behalf of "We the people..." and there are indeed many....the overwhelming majority in fact...also including myself....who believe that the U.S. Constitution PRECLUDES government from interfering in private industry unless that industry is violating the law.
