No really, if you're in love and trust with your SO, that's one thing, but here are two more: 1) do not get married to satisfy anyone's indelicate sensibilities but your own and your SO's, and this includes parents and family, even if they really do care about you, and 2) do not get married until the SO and you decide you're in enough love and trust and are ready to do so, and not before. It's your life, honey, period.

Status: offline 		When the subject comes up with me, and it's not just family....I simply tell them that I love not having to answer to anyone, that I can spend my money the way I want, I can go where ever I want whenever I want......and I'm not giving up my freedom.  My married friends get real jealous when they hear that explanation!

Or there's this one that seems to work for me....."I AM looking for my Mr, Right....I want one that's rich and old, one foot in the grave, one on a banana peel, and I'm gonna take him out on the wedding night on the downstroke!"  Say it seriously, and no one knows if you're kidding or not, and they change the subject really fast!

If you don't want to get married then you should not get married.

Getting married to make the family happy or comfortable or to make someone else feel better isn't the answer. If you and your SO don't both want to be married, then my advice is to stay single and together and until you're both comfortable with the idea and looking forward to it.

Besides, no one wants to be told "I married you to make my parents feel better."

Status: offline 		I was in one marriage that was because everyone was pressuring me to "be married" becasue I was the only chance our side of the family would have anyone to move to with my brother being gay. So, I met and married my first husband.  Disaster ensued, because I married him not because I loved him but because I wanted to be married.

Unless you are in love with someone, marriage is going to lead to a lot of expensive disasters and then misery. Tell your family that you would rather be alone then married to someone you dont live, and it takes time to find that perfect someone. If they are patient and give you a chance, you might find them.
