The purple lot in Boulder used to do that as well, didn't they?

Stealing from the poor to give to the rich? I'd suggest most organised religions do it, but I'd be shouted down.

So I won't

I don't have any great argument with that: it's certainly been the Catholic church's MO for most of its existence.

Now now, dont mistake the churches wealth with its greed. Mush of what the church possesses was given as gifts.

The church also does alot of good. Many billions in charity, supporting not only its small place on earth, but the places of many of its ordained.

I once again will say.... religion isnt currupt, it isnt there to steal... its those running it who often do in the name of religion.

But the results are always the same, sooner or later - often both. War, death, suffering, famine, poverty, etc.

As for the "does a lot of good"; if the sodding churches weren't around there'd be much less suffering to alleviate in the first place.

But as I suspect we'll not see eye-to-eye on this one, I shall say no more.

I'm sure you know exactly what I mean, and are merely waiting to push the usual pro-religious reply to it, which a) everyone must have seen a thousand times or more and b) doesn't wash with me, so if it's all the same to you I'll not, thanks.

You are most welcome to "preceive" as you see fit.

Its rather easy to perceive you as someone who makes leading statements, yet cannot back them up in any form of a coherent debate.

Enjoy your day!

The AIDS epidemic in Africa springs to mind for a start: we've had two Popes making psychopathically irresponsible comments about that one already this century, haven't we?

Without knowing what comments you refer too, its impossible to take a stance.

There's the current lad's comment about condoms causing AIDS, for a start. I can't imagine any way in Hell that was defensible.

lol.. thanks DC,, i found it.

Isnt this the same area that believes having sex with a virgin will cure aids?

And this i find interesting...

Three-quarters of all AIDS deaths worldwide in 2007 were in sub-Saharan Africa, where some 22 million people are infected with HIV _ accounting for two-thirds of the world's infections, according to UNAIDS.

Rebecca Hodes with the Treatment Action Campaign in South Africa said if the pope is serious about preventing HIV infections, he should focus on promoting wide access to condoms and spreading information on how to use them.

"Instead, his opposition to condoms conveys that religious dogma is more important to him than the lives of Africans," said Hodes, head of policy, communication and research for the group.

Hodes said the pope was right that condoms are not the sole solution to Africa's AIDS epidemic, but added they are one of the very few proven measures to prevent HIV infections.

Even some priests and nuns working with those infected with the AIDS virus question the church's opposition to condoms amid the pandemic ravaging Africa. Ordinary Africans do as well.

"Talking about the nonuse of condoms is out of place. We need condoms to protect ourselves against diseases and AIDS," teacher Narcisse Takou said in Yaounde.

Stanley Obale Okpu, a civil servant working in the ministry of urban development in Cameroon, said: "What the pope says is an ideal for the Catholic church. But he needs to look at the realities on the ground. One should be aware of these realities. In the case of Cameroon _ and Africa as a whole _ condoms are very necessary ... You need condoms to prevent AIDS and birth control."

So, tell me, does he abandon the religious teachings for medical ones, even in spite of the fact that he is there for religious reasons, and its been said he is right.... just not right enough?
