The bulk of the reviewers say exactly the opposite. Even the few friendly ones don't go that far. She's silent on the major issues of the day--Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., Economic crisis, and even the Obama administration for the most part, saving the bulk of her ire for the McCain campaign. Other than that, it's the usual autobiography fluff published before a run for office.

Aren't you being harsh? Here are Sarah Palin's policy recommendations:
1. Energy- Drill, baby, drill!
2. Iran- Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb-bomb Iran;
3. Afghanistan- Strong defense- more troops!
4. Economy- Cut taxes, spend more on Defense!

Now for the other 399 1/2 pages- an extensive dish on Levi, John McCain, and all the people who pissed me off!

Noted.

But--at least according to reviewers--the book doesn't even go that far.

Hence, Rush's statement is absurd.

I know...I'm as shocked as you.

What's sad, kitten, is the knee-jerk closing of ranks, lining up behind the ridiculously ignorant babble this gal spouts.
There are, truly, many genuinely intelligent and articulate conservatives. That they fall in behind her instead of saying "Wait a minute!" makes them appear ridiculous as well, and frankly, eliminates them at least for this voter from credible eligibility for any serious office.

I guess if I occasionally sound bitter on these political pages, this is why. As a former Republican, watching it degenerate into Tea Party madness is like watching your family members join a cult and shave their heads. What used to be a party of reason and caution is now the party of radical faith in abstract theologies, free from any empirical evidence, cut loose from the moorings of responsibility and motivated mostly by ethnic and class rage hidden under a phony patriotism and populism.
Until the party comes to its senses, I am going to vote Democratic and hope the Tea Partiers burn themselves out in exile.

It's actually deeper than that, Animus.

Republicans as a block rubber stamped Bush, no matter what. That's just not the role of Congress. It was a move to attempt a permanent Republican majority.

Voters in 2006 turned out popular moderate Republicans simply because they "couldn't return them to Washington to approve Bush policies" (according to exit interviews).

And it's a shame. I can get along fine with moderate Republicans. I even liked McCain in 2000, before he decided to kowtow instead, and shoot from the hip instead of think. [I was one of those who, upon hearing his concession speech, wondered, "There you are--where have you been?"]

The majority of the country, Republican, Democrat, Independent, is moderate. To listen only to the fringe is madness. And to send a moderate to Congress who's only going to vote with the fringe is not a moderate option. So they elect moderate Democrats.

Yes, she still is. It's baffling that she STILL hasn't learnt her lesson when it comes to foreign policy, but I suppose once a bimbo, always a bimbo. Here are her recommendations for Middle Eastern policy . Truly scary stuff: it's like a high school sophomore reciting her lesson. It's all so sad.

I love the part where Barbara Walters says" you do have a way with words" after Palin says "back-asswards" and Palin takes it as a compliment.

But I'm sure once someone a little brighter points it out to her she'll be whining about how unfair Walters was to her.

Another example of the liberal "gotcha media".

I have to agree. Aside from joking about her being fuckable, Sarah Palin scares me. But first, in all fairness, some of her policy views are not that far off the wall.

Obama himself argued that having troops tied up in Iraq was the wrong focus, that the real job was in Afghanistan, and if you agree with that then we need to commit the resources necessary to getting the job done. Personally, I think they're both wrong. I'd like to see us get out of there. But that's another story.

On corporate taxes, she's right that our corporate tax rates are a brake on the economy. But again, I would disagree when it comes to debating how high or low they should be. I think we need to do away with them altogether. Every single nickle of tax that a corporation pays is passed along to consumers in the price of the goods and services the company provides. Corporate taxes are nothing more or less than an egregious hidden sales tax on virtually everything we buy, even the most basic necessities of life, and they impact most severely those who are least able to afford them.

For me, the truly scary thing about Sarah Palin is her inability to separate her evangelical Christianity from her politics. Her stand on abortion (forbidden except to save the life of the mother) and on teaching creationism in our schools make it frighteningly clear that this woman is utterly blind to the difference between a free republic and a Christian theocracy. And that, ladies and gentlemen, should be the end of the matter by anyone's standards.

K.

Speaking of dinosaurs, does anyone know from Going Rogue whether Palin still wants creationism to be taught in schools?

Not sure, but if you donate $100 to her favorite cause, she will send you an autographed copy and you can find out. Personally, I would rather reread Harry Potter.

Thanks for the tip, but I got my copy of "The Audacity of Hope" signed for free, and by the author himself [8D] .

You got Bill Ayers' autograph?

Kudos!

It's a good read so far. Got to finish it before reading "Sarah From Alaska" which will looks to be the reality based book on Palin.

I'd probably go along with that myself. The only reason you went into Afghanistan in the first place was after Osama bin Laden, and he fucked off to Pakistan long ago.

DedicatedDom40 -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/18/2009 6:23:42 PM)

Palin being on the McCain ticket was the doing of Bill Kristol.  Kristol spotted her, liked her, goomed her, and got McCain to accept her.

Kristol's engineering of the ticket cost McCain the election.

kittinSol -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/18/2009 6:37:27 PM)

Flicking (sorry: "flikkin'") through the channels and just came across a Palin/Hannity shamefest on Fucks. Woah... she's babbling the same ole shit she spewed last year (drill and cut taxes, Obama is pallying around with terrorists, and McCain was a bastard, in a nutshell).

How can this tired old act keep on fooling some people? Could it be that they're mesmerised by a decent-looking politician?

I ask those of you on this thread who have argued that her political "opponents" dislike her because of her looks. In fact, it's quite clear to me that some conservatives like her because of her looks because she has made such a successful business out of her body - except this time around, she isn't parading the appendage that is her family.

"The planks in the platform in that party are the best to build my party." Planks in the platform: that's her latest gasbag soundbite . Watch it do the rounds for months to come...

Get past that, Serv.  I don't think there is any hope anymore of her not at least dipping a toe into the primaries, but she'll never get past resigning as Governor (and thank God for that).

I agree.  She is seeing the dollar signs, and is cashing out. Running for office again would amount to a pay cut for her.

She will always be a player in the commnetary arena and throw around endorsements, but since she is a person who is not all that bright, that can't really bode well for the GOP in attracting moderates and independants.

The people who are hanging onto that thread of hope that she might run again need some therapy.

Many of the people still holding the Palin pom-poms want that Christian theocracy.  That should scare you more than her.

Except for the fact that the Taliban controlled the government and sheltered and supported Al-Quaeda.

Even now the Karzai government maintains a hold only on the area around Kabul.  Much of the rest of the country is in Taliban hands.

So what do you think would happen if we withdrew?
