the only thing i see wrong with your actions is that at least in my state the police have advised us to empty the clip especially if we have military trainning because they are likely to argue that it was not self defense if it is controlled. Not a veiw point i like but something i figured i'd mention don't know if it works in the rest of the usa

The police are advising people to empty guns in an uncontrolled manner......glad I don't live in that state [&:]

Re-read the comment. He said nothing about "uncontrolled." He simply said "empty the clip." You can empty the clip in a controlled manner and have it still look like you were so afraid for your life, you kept pulling the trigger until the gun only clicked.

Not enough yum. Let's put all the pregnant Women in an institution and control their diet and keep them away from drugs. Mother and child stay at the facility for five years after birth and Parenting is "assisted" by experts. Before leaving after that term the intended family home is inspected and must be devoid of any danger. That means using plastic silverware just like jail. There also must be an effective security system in place with bars on the windows and doors. All outside excursions must be approved by a board of counsellors.

At the entrances to the living area all visitors must present picture ID at the camera mounted near the entrances and will not gain admittance without a background check. The family is inspected daily to make sure they are properly nourished and cared for. Also, cameras are installed in every room with a high speed digital interface to the home office to make sure the guidelines are met at all times. The police stop by to strip search every visitor.

The Parents are stripped of all money and liquid assets and given a card with which they can only make approved purchases. Parents caught with regular currency or any unapproved form of credit will be incarcerated.

But then they already were. Sorry about your rights, there is something more important. We need able bodied soldiers in the future so this is for the good of all. As for the cost ? Just print more money. Gonna need it anyway with 120,000,000 more police and other officials. Plus it will probably cost 100 billion to have all the new regulations written, perhaps as few as 200,000 of them.

The final solution. ( where have I read those words before ? )

Excellent post, Termyn8or.

I'm sure coffee should be forbidden to all parents, we don't need the possibility that an overly caffeinated parent could do or say something that the government would later regret. Painting the interiors of any home that has children in it jailhouse green had ought to be mandatory as well, since it has a nice calming effect on the inmates...

Kirata...I like you...intelligent...say what you mean and mean what you say... but damn...I've met my match. You are just as stubborn as me. Maybe a little more… I do hereby yield.

The anti-gun lobby has always been about histrionics. If they debate the topic logically they have no debate. The facts are irrelevant to them.

It is My personal opinion that the parents of the kid should be placing blame exactly where it belongs.  The 'kid' is 19 years old, which means he is an adult, and fully responsible for his own actions.  Even if there were outside influences encouraging him to break into a home (somewhere in this thread, someone mentioned it *may* have been a gang initiation) there wasn't a soul in that room but him and Orion when he was told to show his hands.  It would have been easy enough for him to do that.

Do I think those parents are grieving that their son has been wounded?  Yes, I do.  At the same time, as a parent Myself, I always taught Mine that they were responsible for their own actions, and those actions certainly can have cause and effect.

I do agree with some of what you say except the parents are often not to blame. They do thier best...just as good as you ...and still their child became a murder or burglar....why… who knows there is just something in the child different from most. But it is hard for a parent not to feel it is their fault, even though it is not, and they still feel love and loss.

Not to mention you'd probably have to scrub down the walls as well.

They're like really short giraffes. Some genetics guys in Europe bred them. They're about 2 feet high. People keep them as pets.

Children getting killed by careless gun ownership is completely preventable.

This is where I think we have a fundamental divergence in viewpoint. I don't think that anything is completely preventable. The most you can do is reduce the risk of any danger or threat. Since we live in a world with limited resources, it makes sense to spend them reducing the risks that are most likely to occur.

What is your proposal to reduce the number of accidental shooting deaths of children to zero permanently and how would it be implemented?

Hey guess what...you’re full of crap...again... this situation happened to me exactly.

I grabbed my wife…went to my children’s room…with my twenty gauge and called the police.

Granted I have a two story...they were down stairs and I was up stairs. I yelled the police were on the way through the door… Guess what they did…ran.

I lost a laptop but no one was killed.

Hey gues what. The only one I see full of shit is you.

You didn't go through anything like what Orion did, by your own admission.

Debating his attitude towards the OP and his attitude in general is one thing, but (presuming both stories are true) it's one heck of a cheap shot to demean his encounter with similar danger because he acted defensively rather than aggressively.

Firstly, it's good to hear eveyrthing ended up safely for you and your family.

Secondly, I wanted to wait a few days before making a specific comment about this because I can imagine the stress of being in such a situation puts someone in a horribly tense place.

I am going to put this here as it will wind up political....

So to all the gun ban proponents out there, fuck you.

See, it wasn't political at all until you had to throw in a dig at anti-gun folk as if their very intention is/was specifically to further endanger your family. To the degree that there was to be any honest discussion about the issue and not just group hugs, the way you presented the situation was disingenuous.

Now, don't get me wrong. For situations like this, I think group hug threads are an absolutely good thing and I realize the craziness of the experience likely contributed to the tone of that last paragraph in the OP (which is why I felt it appropriate to wait a few days before addressing these specifics).

i read it again...and i didn't see any demeaning. There was the exchange of "you're full of shit" then "Loki45" simply reiterated that "kdsub"  did NOT go through (quoting "kdsub" here) "this situation happened to me exactly." the SAME thing.
Respectfully.....

No, thanks. This is clearly a job for a professional.

Since you seem to have missed it in My original statement, I underlined and bolded exactly where I said the blame lies.  At no time did I blame the parents for this.  I agree, they may feel that they are to blame, but that may or may not be the reality.

Oh please, stop waving your hankie around. The value of human life is not what motivates you. Human beings die in much greater numbers from other causes that cry out to be addressed. No argument motivated by a genuine concern for human life would ignore the elephants in the room in order to go after a gnat, or dismiss even mentioning more serious concerns as an "asinine" objection to a focus on guns.

Damn I hate a long thread and you miss something and are afraid it will take forever to find.

A child died? The 'child' that got shot in the original op or something else?

Is the ability to see into the minds of others a gorean skill ?.....or did you come by this talent using your earthly abilities?

On the contrary - I've made a number of attempts in this very thread to debate this issue within a logical framework, and almost without exception, I've seen no logical argument coming back from the other side. The only one who's even come close to making a logical argument has been Rule; and while I disagree with his reasoning, I at least give him credit for trying to approach it from a logical starting point. Everyone else has been arguing from pure emotion. Which, in my experience,  is pretty much par for the course on any gun thread.
