Sanity, I'm guessing that even with insurance, the average American couldn't even dream of getting the care Rush and all his millions got. Add in needing treatments approved and it gets even worse. Add to that the fact that the rich and well-connected go to the front of the line and well the average American is left in the dust.

My friend just had a heart attack. I asked her and she said she had excellent care. She's not rich and she's a liberal, so I guess we are both really glad your wrong about that.

Uhhh Sanity, people who need emergency care don't wait here either. I'm guessing that how long someone waits in the US is dependent on their insurance. Here (unless you are rich and well connected) it's dependent on when you go on the list and how sick you are....and we don't starve in order to get care.

Well the last time I saw a doctor, I got in the same day, had lab tests done and my prescription filled that afternoon. I suppose if I had had insurance they would have seen me faster, but I was ok with the wait time. Really.

Alright, alright, alright. After careful consideration, maybe my snarkiness was over the top.

So my last comment on this thread will be to wish him well, and hope that his heart grows three sizes larger on this day.

So you want him to die of an enlarged heart instead? [;)]

But seriously, America's healthcare is the best MONEY CAN BUY! Like so much else in a Capitalist society, if you don't have money, you don't get it!

Why is this concept so hard to grasp?

....it isn't hard to grasp. It's very simple really. Some people think that mere ownership of money should not be the determining factor in whether or not someone dies of a preventable disease.

Is that concept hard to grasp?

As much as I think Rush is a fat, lying, drug addicted slime.  I wish him a speedy recovery

Sanity -> RE: Rush taken to hospital (1/4/2010 8:44:42 AM)

Is there anything you think government should NOT provide? Especially food, shelter, clothing, that sort of thing.

I know we won't agree here Sanity but the government has my money as well as yours and should provide as much as fiscally possible for all of us...why else have one.

If the Government can afford to pay for my drugs it should...if it can put my kids thought school it should...if it can provide me clothing food and shelter if I am unable to support myself it should… if it can provide me medical care it should...BUT if the people refuse to support these programs with tax money, or elected officials to propose these programs, then that is our majority choice...there should be no Republican Democrat fight about this...it is the governments duty to provide for the majority… that means our elected officials of both parties...I sure don't need someone on a throne telling me my money should not be spent for me if possible.

Don't you see that at some point its about buying votes, and rewarding failure?

How much can we reward failure and still survive.

It seems that every time a new line is drawn, thats still not enough free shit.

I must have more faith in the American people than you...I don't think the average American wants to need or have government help but they want it for those that do...perhaps like their sons or daughters or friends in true need.

It is not free you and me are paying...the majority of voters will determine when it is enough. I would just like to see you argue we cannot afford something rather then disparage the people the benefits would go to...Charity should always be in our hearts as a nation.

Yes there will always be abusers and losers but does that mean in order to punish the very few, taking advantage of our charity programs, we must punish the majority in need?

No...once again you are wrong.
Just a tiny bit of actual research would have shown you that the U.S. is way down on the list of quality health care providers. The U.S. health care system provides less care for more money than almost 40 other countries in the world.

kittinSol -> RE: Rush taken to hospital (1/4/2010 9:28:37 AM)

Maybe he thinks it's the best system because it's the most expensive [X(] ?

As long as there are people who would vote for bush&co.twice failure will continue to be rewarded.

I want to know who's behind the expression "reward failure", so that I can kick him in the nuts. It's the lamest phrase in the Amateur Capitalist's Manifesto.

Ahh ...but a Montblanc 149 clipped into the collar of your Grateful dead sweat shirt is just so much more subtle than arriving in a chaufer driven "cloud"

Sanity -> RE: Rush taken to hospital (1/4/2010 10:07:31 AM)

Being American doesn't have anything to do with it, its all about human nature.

A hypothetical: Government is the teacher / parent, and its telling its student / child, "Just sit there your whole life and I'll provide you with everything you need."

What does the student / child learn?

vs.

"Come with me, and I will teach you how to provide for yourself."

*******

Which of the two should the teacher / parent be teaching? Which should the student / child be learning?

We're mammalian, do you deny that? Sorry, we are not god-like, we are animals. People howl when I say that but few will try to deny it. And animals, higher animals especially, are destroyed when they're given handouts. Monkeys, apes, bears, humans, we learn where the food (etc.) is that has the lowest risk vs. the highest reward, and it becomes nearly impossible to change a learned behavior pattern.

Go to Yellowstone - the dumpsters are locked, and it is illegal there to feed the wildlife. There is a reason for that - the rangers there have learned over the years that if you feed the wild animals you interrupt their normal learned behavior patterns, and because of that you're killing them. They become beggars and theives, they become overly aggressive and they have to be destroyed.

**********

And its not charity if someone comes after you with a club and takes it. Calling government handouts "charity" is a mistake. They are welfare programs, and they are necessary but they should be used sparingly, no more than they absolutely have to be.

Yep everything they need to succeed and be productive self-sufficient adults…No government representative ever came to me and offered me anything…I went to them to defend my country.

These are safety nets and if you think people don’t need them open your eyes.

Many disadvantaged men and women have taken advantage of these programs that without them would have been either criminals to survive or one of the abusers of the system we talk of earlier. And they have become strong contributors to our nation.

It is not programs that are always wrong it may be how they are administered I’ll admit…You are not old enough to remember the great depression…me either but both my mother and father told me their stories of near starvation. But look at how modern safety needs such as unemployment have held families together and given them food and shelter In this economical meltdown just as bad…UNTIL they can get back on their feet…Quite a difference.
