We don't know exactly what ideas of Thurmond Trent had in mind when he said it was a shame they were never brought to fruition. The racism was inferred. Reid's comment is much less debateable. A "negro dialect???" C'mon. I can understand about how realpolitik gets discussed when the doors are closed, but choosing to frame it in that sort of terminology says something about the man, and that something it is says is going to be roundly ignored by people who often pretend with great volume that they care about such things. I don't think the dialect portion of Reid's statement was racist, (nor was Lott's). Many people have noted that Barry turns on the vernacular when he's addressing a predominantly black audience. the light skinned comment might be a little more borderline, but then again, its just a strategic political observation. Recognizing the role of race in an election is not racist in and of itself. the only issue here, imo, is the Democrat double standard, but thats old news.
