If you follow the game, you had to know this was coming.

GOP Chief:  Reid should step down

A new book about the 2008 campaign is quoting Senator Harry Reid as saying of then candidate Obama, "no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

Anybody remember Senator Trent Lott being forced from his leadership position over a statement that wasn't nearly as directly racist?

Can we say "double standard?"

For the OP and any others with a reading comprehension disorder.
Reid was making a political observation which anyone with a two digit IQ would be able to notice.
Trent Lott was expressing a desire to keep segregation a national policy.
The greater question is why Dick and his friends cannot read and decipher simple English. Is it because they can't or is it because they do not want to?

HST.

Agreed.

The states' rights rhetoric was over opposition to civil rights. He staunchly insisted he would enforce segregation.

It's a matter of old news.

There is a difference between what Lott was referring to, which was states rights, of which he was a long time advocate, and Thurmonds racism. He stated that many times. Its only racists who read racism into other peoples remarks where that wasnt the intent.

However, he did so by lamenting the country that would have been had Thurmond been elected. Unfortunately, Thurmond's states' rights stance came after his opposition to civil rights, and as a way to justify enforcing segregation as upholding state law.

Perhaps that's not what Lott meant. I can't read his mind. But it's certainly what he said.

And of course their is always the questionable way that Lott "retired."  Something about loving to fuck a male prostitute comes to mind.

Of course it makes it all the richer after he denounces homos as being sinful and equating gays to alcoholics or kleptomaniacs....The guy was a true American hero!!!

But I am sure that he was worried about the individual rights of states.

Lott said nothing about segregation/race. If you infer any racist intent, you are both reading his mind and calling him a liar re his explanations/aplogogies.

Why did he have to apologize?  Why did he also denounce homos while loving cock so much?

Why do you seem to have the only possible insight into what Trent meant to say?

He is simply a very puzzling man.   I like Trent!!!

Why did he suddenly retire so quickly?

It couldn't have been from this lil' ole thang?
