Your blind acceptance of unsubstaniated claims is just another facet of your willful ignorance.

And your blind acceptance of Trent Lott's unsubstantiated claims and apology make you a douche nozzle.

Go with God.

There is no God. And there are no more Domiguy posts on my screen. You are an ignorant, racist fool.

I believe I was just blocked?  Is this possible?

Caitlyn has been MIA from CM for quite some time. Hell, you would have thought she might come back right now just to crow about the Cowboys in the playoffs.

For the OP and any others with a reading comprehension disorder.
Reid was making a political observation which anyone with a two digit IQ would be able to notice.
Trent Lott was expressing a desire to keep segregation a national policy.
The greater question is why Dick and his friends cannot read and decipher simple English. Is it because they can't or is it because they do not want to?

HST.

I'll go over this once for you, Thom, and slowly.  You don't get very much slack from me.  It wasn't that Reid's comment was specifically racist, I've already said it struck me as a statement of door-closed realpolitik.  Since you are bashing at the reading comprehension of others, I'm sure you saw that post.

The topic is the display of the double standard of shrieking racism to bash a political opponent, feigning great indignation and offense, making it a moral absolute, and then quickly dismissing and ignoring a statement coming from someone who votes "right."  These sorts of displays amuse me.

There is a difference between what Lott was referring to, which was states rights, of which he was a long time advocate, and Thurmonds racism. He stated that many times. Its only racists who read racism into other peoples remarks where that wasnt the intent.

However, he did so by lamenting the country that would have been had Thurmond been elected. Unfortunately, Thurmond's states' rights stance came after his opposition to civil rights, and as a way to justify enforcing segregation as upholding state law.

Perhaps that's not what Lott meant. I can't read his mind. But it's certainly what he said.

Lott said nothing about segregation/race. If you infer any racist intent, you are both reading his mind and calling him a liar re his explanations/aplogogies.

Back up.

I'm going only by what he said. He supported Thurmond's direction for the country. Did he suppose only part of the package would come through? Did he somehow miss Thurmond's actions while governor?

It was a very, very impolitic thing to say at the very least--so much so that Bush, who never seemed to much give a fuck what others thought, had him resign so that his inexperienced buddy Frist could step in (and for the briefest of political careers).

I also didn't call Lott any names or ascribe any intent. I do understand why there was a furor over the remark, and color it how you like, but it simply is not comparable to Reid's observations, politically unwise for public consumption but accurate.

Heya buddy,  Here is what I get from the lott statement...Using the most ridiculous analogy I can find.

It would be akin to saying that if more people would have stood behind Hitler we wouldn't be in all of this mess today.

(It just so happens that Hitler had very strong ideas on recycling and utilizing alternative fuels long before such ideas were en vogue)

This is the problem with what lott said.

Yep, DG, that's a pretty ridiculous analogy.  Did you know Hitler was a vegetarian, too?  Maybe that is where the authoritarian streak came from?

It was a 100th birthday party for old bastard, and Lott was trying to say something nice.  Maybe you think he should have taken the opportunity to criticize?  It was a bullshit remark, but you have to read into the words, consult the archives and tea leaves, to see where the offense was to be found.

Are you going to seriously take the position that a conservative who uttered the actual words that Harry Reid isn't even trying to deny came out of his mouth wouldn't be suffering the howls of mock outrage and indignation right now, and forever?

What if it was not the first time he uttered almost the exact same words? Would you feel differently?

google it.  I think it was about twenty years before.

Hell, DG, you're assuming I give a shit.  I don't.  My interest is purely in a cynical look at the double standard.

Here is what I do not get???  How come every statement made by McCain/Palin in the same book is not getting the same treatment, Hell McCain has admitted to saying worse but no one in the GOP cares about that.

Why do you think the GOP has not responded and let the news cover it, because they now it brings up far worse things for them, lott, McCain voting against MLK day and so one ..but wait the truth kills rumors

Please, House, do provide me with some examples of these racist comments from the McCain/Palin campaign.  I'm fascinated, and sorta wondering how I missed hearing about them (endlessly)...

It's very simple. They don't care about right and wrong. Their only interest is in getting back into power.

And sadly, there are a lot of very stupid people who will let themselves be frightened into voting for the same party who, when in power, ran this country into a ditch.

Double standard???????? Nah...nothing is a double standard to these bozos. If a Republican or Independent does it....it's racist....if a Democrat does it, it's intellectual misintepretation. Spare me.....

These people are such a joke.....the global warming farce.....Cap & Trade.....sucking up to the unions and letting them out of a tax while the rest of us pay for it...Three Stooges-like inter- party warfare.....a President who wears out more knee pads than a skull fuck porn star....and now this. Were it not that they are trying to destroy a great nation...It would be funny to watch the implosion.

2010 is shaping up to be the biggest rout of a party in power, in political history.

Actually, are you going to seriously take the position that turning to this red herring continually isn't mock outrage?

McCain: racist, bigot & homophobe | Capitol Hill Blue

August 1, 2008 - 7:14am By DOUG THOMPSON

John McCain, a member of the House of Representatives in the mid-1980s, often held court at a table near the bar at Bullfeathers, a popular Capitol Hill watering hole, telling jokes and matching hangers-on drink by drink.

As a Capitol Hill chief of staff, I often drank at Bullfeathers and was invited to join the throng at McCain's table one evening. A few minutes listening to the racism, bigotry and homophobia of the Arizona Congressman told me all I needed to know.

McCain loved to tell jokes about lesbians, blacks, Hispanics and the Vietnamese community that occupied a large section of Arlington County, Virginia, just south of the District of Columbia.

Of course, McCain didn't use polite language in the jokes: He used names like "fags" or "queers" or "dykes" or "niggers" or "spics" or "wetbacks" or "gooks."

After your earlier contributions to this thread, RML, you now wish to use these words in your own post???

Thanks for illustrating the double standard at its most revolting.
