Yeah, ThompsonX is a real piece of work.

Well, if it's cool to call all Germans nazis because of Hitler I suppose it must be cool to call all Italians fascists because of Mussolini. Frightening how some people think, isn't it?

Good grief. That war was 70 years ago. It was the death rattle of Colonialism and Racism. Although the latter is obviously gripping the edge of the cliff with agonized fingers and the desperation of fear and loathing of the dark peoples. I am not accusing ThompsonX of the residual racism when I make that statement. I am revealing that I run into it with my own RL friends whose ethnic background would suggest they should know better. It is all quite amazing my friends are so racist when they and their families have suffered from it previously. Their complaint is they hear too much Spanish spoken in the USA. I call them on it everytime. Why do we so often strive to demean "outsiders?" What is the groupthink that drives us in that fashion? Maybe it is a genetic throwback to hunter/gatherer days. Nah. That's too easy. It is just so difficult for some to come into the 21st Century.

I don't think either's an acceptable attitude, Vincent. Sorry if my sarcasm wasn't clear.

I understood you perfectly, Moon. My earlier reply was not a criticism of you. Should have made that clear. Sorry.

No worries.

Meanwhile, back on the rails...

Chavez Orders Takeover of Venezuelan Exito Stores (Update3) January 17, 2010, 06:57 PM EST

Jan. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuela President Hugo Chavez ordered the expropriation of Hipermercado Exito stores after alleging that the retailer broke the law by raising prices and hoarding goods.

The South American country will change its laws if needed to take over the retailer owned by Casino Guichard Perrachon SA of Saint-Etienne, France and Almacenes Exito SA of Medellin, Colombia, Chavez said today on state television. “I order that we develop a dossier and prepare a new law to take over the Exito chain,” Chavez said. “Repricing and hoarding, what is this? You have to respect our house.”

Chavez’s government closed four Exito outlets for a day because the company allegedly increased prices following a Jan. 11 currency devaluation.

Show us your balls loudmouth or shut the fuck up.

No, you called all Italians shitpiles because you didn't like the unelected leader they had during the thirties. Much classier, I agree.

vincentML -> RE: Hugo Chavez & Venezuela (1/20/2010 5:12:38 AM)

Interesting stuff, dawg. The Vietnam War was a bit of racist imperialism, wasn't it? Too bad so many American boys died for the shit pile thinking of our elected leaders following the ineffective feeble attempt of France to cling to its empire. What an atrocity. And the boys were drafted or coerced by patriotism like the Italian boys were, although some brave guys went to jail in protest. Damn. one sad chapter of many in the racist history of America. We should be embarrassed but we just move on to the next racist attack or occupation, and quickly forget what we did before. I'm inclined to think it is a national failing this racism. We sure as hell have had a long history of it. And we remain in fucking denial.

FFS learn to read. Here is, in its entirety, my quote about the fucking wops who got their rascists scumbag asses handed to them in south east Africa.

Actually the Italians did quite well in North Africa...Kasarine pass was primarily a Italian fought action.
It was in Southeastern Africa that the Britts administered a severe spanking to the wops.

The short answer to your question though is ..Yes...

Of course when you call me a lowlife scumbag shitpile you also call every serviceman who served in Viet nam a lowlife scumbag shitpile.
Were you in Viet nam?

Nope, lowlife scumbag shit pile. You call every US serviceman that. Not I. I just call you that. Because that is your (not mine) standard. Should figure out a way to work your issues with logic in there, but your not worth it.

Venezuelan police fire tear gas at protesters.

CARACAS, Venezuela – Police fired tear gas to chase off thousands of students demonstrating in the capital Thursday, a fifth day of protests against President Hugo Chavez for pressuring cable and satellite TV providers to drop an opposition channel. Some of the protesters threw rocks at police in riot gear when officers moved to break up the rally outside the offices of the state-run electricity company.

While charging that the government is trying to curb criticism, the students also used their demonstration to call attention to electricity shortages plaguing much of Venezuela and other pressing domestic problems like double-digit inflation.

University students have taken to the streets daily since Sunday, after government pressure led cable TV services to drop Radio Caracas Television International, which has long been a critic of Chavez's socialist policies.

"We are not going to allow continued shutdowns of media outlets that tell the truth, and we are not going to allow ineptitude and inefficiency to continue," said Nizar El Sakih, a student leader.

Critics of the government say Chavez is responsible for domestic problems ranging from double-digit inflation to violent crime to rolling power blackouts.

Were you going to make a point or are you just going to keep posting news reports?
How does the current administration compare to previous U.S. backed administrations? Do you have some news clippings about those?

What's the matter, boys. Is all this news of  vociferous discontent thats spreading under Central America's latest wanna be Socialist dictator somehow unsettling to you?

I can't imagine why that would be.

Now, the latest from Reuters:

quote:

Venezuelan politics spill onto baseball field

CARACAS (Reuters) – Rarely has the phrase "three strikes, you're out" been so controversial on Venezuela's baseball fields -- or in its politics.

Opposition leaders have seized on three issues weighing on President Hugo Chavez -- uncontrolled crime, water shortages and electricity cuts -- to adopt a new sporting slogan for protests: "Chavez, you've struck out."

The opposition has struggled in the past to come up with punchy campaigns to erode the socialist Chavez's popularity. But this phrase has been widely picked up this month, nowhere more than in baseball stadiums.

"I think 'You've struck out' is going to be the phrase of the year," said Oscar Camacho, 25, an engineer, preparing to watch the sixth game of a pulsating championship series in a buzzing Caracas bar.

"We're suffering with power rationing, we've got no water and crime is out of control, this is our day-to-day reality." Inside stadiums, the phrase has popped up on banners and in chants, irking the baseball-loving Chavez and becoming a rare successful rallying cry for the fragmented opposition.

The phrase has sparked pushing and shoving inside stadiums among rival groups. Some TV directors have tried to keep the cameras off such incidents to avoid fanning tensions and charges of political bias.

Venezuela is in South America not Central America.
Chavez was elected twice so that sorta makes your claim of dictatorship a little specious.
You have still failed to make a point nor have you compared the current administration with previous U.S. backed administrations.
Are you interested in a discussion or are you just here to whine?
