Well, now we'll find out if the democrats really have the balls to go all in and ram it through with reconciliation. Or perhaps the House will agree to the Senate version, but that's probably not too likely. The next few days will be interesting.

Or force Congress to accept whatever plan they stick us with. Hmm?

Not to drip lemon juice into anybody's papercuts here, but it's worth pointing out that if the Mass. Dems hadn't changed the rules around to make sure a Repub Governor didn't get to appoint a Senator to replace Kerry, they wouldn't be having this little problem, would they?

Unintended consequences, huh?

congrats; the US is now almost 100% guaranteed to get the health care reform that is required, rather than the mess that has been proposed, albeit a few more years to go.

E

I'm not so sure.

There's no question that the current bill will die a brief, violent (and well deserved) death.  It was too ugly, and reminds me of the old joke about a camel being a horse created by committee.

But I'm not so sure that the current system will be reformed a few years down the road.

I'd love to see a new focus on reducing costs and improving care, as opposed to simply trying to shift the costs.

Can't imagine many people in the UK will be saying that next summer.

I was thinking about that too, Rich.

Good grief. I just watched her speech - I can only conclude that someone wanted to lose the seat really badly to have put her up as a candidate. It was only 5 minutes, but I could hardly be arsed to listen to a word she said after 30 seconds.

Fast reply-
I remember being a conservative republican in the 1970's, suffering defeat after defeat after agonizing defeat. And yet, we never lost hope, we just kept working harder, year after year.

And so I would say the same today-
To the rest of us who want a more just and fair society-
Did you think it was going to be easy? Did you think that with one election, one victory, of one man, you would somehow triumph?
Nothing good is ever easy- the progressives will have to work harder, thats all.

We all have a Congressman and Senator to vote in or out in November. If you are disappointed by tonight, that just means you have to be out walking precincts from now until November, arguing on every blog and forum that you can find.
We have demographics on our side; the tide of history is leading to a more connected, more cooperative society.

This was a battle; we are still at war.

OUCH! That has to hurt!
The Dems fucked themselves right up the ass there, didn't they?
I wonder who's going to be running against John "French" Kerry?

I remember being a democrat that voted the way my union leaders said I should vote in the 1970's. Maybe you will see the light to.

LadyE, yeah, she just doesn't seem very intelligent when she speaks. And she was an awful Atty. Gen. she let a guy rot in prison for three years that she knew was innocent!

I think my brother nailed it when he told me that "People just want a clean break from the Kennedys."

Look at the turnout and say that again, Muse.

Health care is the main event. If they don't do something, Democrats won't have Democrats in November.
