Don't tell me this. I'm about to turn 25. Cripes I might start lying about my age...

I'm 38, and I don't date men much under thirty. This is not that they aren't hot; it is rather that they are at an entirely different point in their life. Their life passion may require moving across country; I am settled here at least for the next ten to twenty years, dealing with elderly parents. I have had my children and am done with it; they may suddenly start realizing they'd like to have kids of their own. They may just not be ready to settle down in a solid marital-type relationship with someone, let alone a couple. I don't discount the occasional maturity of some twenty-somethings, but by and large I prefer thirty-somethings, because they have got a lot of that stuff worked out by now and can decide clearly if they want a life that has me in it.

You know, that's an interesting question too.  I worked it to my advantage.  In my group of friends, I was always the "baby" of the group.  Then, something cliqued at 25...  It was no longer "*sigh* I'm younger than everyone...", but suddenly, "HA!  I'm younger than all of you!"

Thank you, BK - that is a great way of looking at it. Now all I have to do is get rid of those pesky younger friends...

LOL
I for one am about to have my 25th birthday---for the 15th time.

And as for my preference--if it won't get me arrested it's fair game.

Awww, lushie, come on now...  You can't deny that you wouldn't like some cute 18 year old cabana boy at the end of a leash as your own personal playtoy...  I sure can't.

Well all I can say is that my honey is amazing, we have almost everything in common, and we're 16 years apart...

OP, Your good lookin, got a good bod on ya, and look alot younger than it seems your felling. My advice is to stay legal and have some fun. Good luck

I'm sure, in another 40 or so years, when you reach her age, you'll still be gorgeous as well.

When I was 20, I wanted someone 30. When I was 30, I wanted someone 40. Now that I'm 40, I want two 20 year olds. Who gives a fuck? I mean, really. You like who you like and you love who you love. Why is everything so goddamned serious? Who needs someone else's advice about this. Y'all are big people, make your own decisions.

26 is even worse - I feel like I'm racing toward 30 and that 21 is a distant memory.

I wonder if I'll be able to lie about my age when I get older...I kinda want to, there's something totally Hollywood about it, but I think I'm too upfront to be able to.

I'm totally going to colour my greys though.

If you are going to lie (and most women over 40 do), you have to be able to get away with it.

So, stay out of the sun, use a high spf and when asked how old you are just smile mysteriously and say....

Old enough to have done it alot and young enough to still be able to do it better than you.

I haven't seen my natural hair color since I was... 11? 13? As soon it started to darken I started highlighting it. Which progressed to dying it.

Greys will never even see the light of day.

I agree. Men like the OP don't stop to think that it goes both ways. Older women often prefer younger men. I know I do. There is so much to be said for chemistry. I get approached by younger men all the time and I like it. I find them more attractive, more open, more kinky, more appreciative, less bitter, more honest.

I don't necessarily need an 18 year old, but men 10 years younger at least, are best for me. This is not to say I would not be with an older guy, but have not found one yet that's been as hot and intense as my younger dudes.

Beyond the obvious, there is no age bracket I limit myself to. Attraction is attraction is attraction. If it is mutual then I usually go with it. I've been involved with women substantially younger, and substantially older. It simply is not a basis on which I discriminate.

In regard to your comment, specifically the highlighted text, in general I find younger women to be much less bitter as well. For a long time I have believed that men and women share more in common than they differ. I've worked at not making gender specific statements because of such. But my amorous experience is limited to women so I'm not qualified to know or comment on the ways men act and behave (my experience is limited to my own behavior, and opinions based on that are, er, um, rather subjective).

I agree with you; some men and some women get bitter as they get older, but hopefully none of us fits into a preconceived role.

I know I try and remain positive, but always realistic. My comments about older men being more bitter than younger men could perhaps have to do with the overwhelming number of dates I had in the past year or so where the men complained ad nauseum about how horrifible their ex wives were, milking them for money, what cunts they are, how all women are money grubbers, etc.

While the younger men I dated were actually interested in getting to know me and having fun. If the older guys would have put their baggage behind them, then they would have gotten behind ME quicker.

If the shoe fits....

Ya know.. I'm starting to encounter this more and more. It's not always and ex-wife but the girlfriend who moved in and when she left, took all his stuff, took their dog, took the car they bought together, trashed his bed, etc.

I gotta admit. That sort of bitching isn't any less of a turn-off when it's coming from a 26 year old. I'm just sitting there going "While I have sympathy for you, aren't you trying to get into my pants here? Unless we're considering a threesome, I'm not interested in your ex right now...". That or I just know that in six months I'll be the subject of their venom.

You gals are confirming what I already believed - genders share more in common than they differ. Pity though, that either gender ends up terminally bitter.

Me thinks it has to do with an inability to move past one's most recent amorous experiences, and a bit of transference and projection.

I know, right? I just don't get the philosophy about bitching about exes on a first date. I mean, like, dude, wouldn't you rather be bantering than bitching?

Yes, whether it is from a younger or older guy, it is not attractive.

I find that people who do that think you will feel bad for them, but no, I don't like a pity party when someone should be paying attention to the date at hand.

You should be spending the time demonstrating to the bitch that the dick worshipping she will be doing later is wholly justified and that she is so completely used that she can barely move, let alone think of an ex.

Just my passing thought.

This is why common wisdom is not to date people right after they've broken up.

But we've gotten away from the op's problem which is that if he gets together with a hot 25 year old, he won't think she's hot when she's 31. He at that point will be that much older and still looking for a female under 25. If he doesn't do something, he's doomed to have short term relationships because every time they get above 25 he loses interest in them. So he can only be involved with someone for six or seven years max. But knowing that he won't want them in a couple of years will prevent him from getting emotionally intimate with them because he knows it is a short relationship from the beginning.

I'm also curious if he bothers to tell them that when they hit 25 he'll be dumping them. You know, being upfront and honest about his problems.
