ORIGINAL: Jeffff The premise doesn't surprise Me at all. Those that question the status quo are often the ones who expand knowledge Newton was at the very least an agnostic at a time when being a faculty member of Trinity College made it mandatory to Belive in the religious dogma. Richard Feynman was the same way What I've read about Newton, he was sure there was some sort of Diety but probably not the Diety taught in church. He looked to science to try to understand the nature of "God". I'm not entirely sure that intelligent people would be liberals and atheists. But then I'm not intelligent. I'm very liberal in some areas, very conservative in others. I look at each issue on its own merits. I don't accept a Baptist, Fundamentalist view of God but I do believe there exists a Spirit, or Energy that has commonly been named "God" or even gods. One thing I do see as being important is having an inquisitive and open mind. One should not automatically shut out an idea just because it is new or foreign to ones own experience. It is that inquisitiveness that expands and enriches us. Explore, invent, seek, ask, knock, question. Those are the things that promote growth and once one stops growing one can only finish the process of dying.
