ORIGINAL: InvisibleBlack The system of government we have is not designed to foster rapid radical change. It's designed to ensure slow, gradual change. This is why big issues and big movements have often taken decades to have an effect. It's a deliberate design in the system. I believe you're seeing it at work now. I completely agree, and this is exactly why I have no hope at all that this country will ever pull itself out of the mess we're in. The rest of the world is moving at the speed of the 21st Century, and we're still moving at the speed of the 18th Century. We have a built-in competitive disadvantage that puts us further behind the curve every year. As other countries react and adapt in real time to circumstances as they emerge, we're taking decades to solve (for example) the health care problems that other countries figured out and put to rest 10, 15, 30 years ago. The faster the rest of the world moves, the more slowly we move in comparison, and the further behind we fall. I do not see a solution to this. "Throwing the bums out" every 2, 4, or 6 years - even if the voters actually do it, which I don't see any reason to believe they will actually do - just puts us even further behind, because while we're going back to Square One and cleaning house, China and India are pouring billions of dollars into Zhongguan Cun and modernizing their technological workforces. While we're still burning witches at the stake. I see no reason at all to believe that any of this is likely to change in any meaningful time frame.
