Okay... a little background.... My life = successful and happy.... I have had to seek help from social services. I am not ashamed of that. If I were ashamed of that I would never have posted about it on the internet. I am actually a success story of what helping people can lead to. I am proud of raising my son from infancy without child support from my ex husband. I am proud of working my way through community college in the top 10 of those who graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I got loans, grants, and scholarships for the rest of my education and graduated with high honors from a four year institution. I am now in grad school on the university's dime because they think I am brainy enough to bother with... Rich calls that gaming the system... well I call using it to better my chances of providing something in the future for those I love. Now I suppose Rich may think that being gifted an education by your parents is more praiseworthy than working hard for one, but I do not agree with that position. He stated that to diminish my accomplishments instead of backing up his position with actual data. I am not upset by anything that Rich has posted, when I close out collarme I do not run around worrying about it, I really do not care all that much.... but I will call him on posting personal attacks to disguise his ignorance, which he is ignorant about welfare, never posts a source of where he gets his stats from, which makes me think it is all made up in his head. It is funny how he attacks ACORN for engaging in giving advice to many who struggle, like I did, yet he isn't willing to condemn the dishonest and in some instances illegal behavior by those who targeted ACORN...His MO is to attack those who have been wronged to justify the lying deceptive behavior of those who wronged them... par for the course. Finally, I really do not care what your opinion of me is, and I care even less what your opinion of Rich is... He has shown trollish behavior in my direction on innumerous occasions because when he lacks substantiation for his opinions he get pissy and personal

Julia I know I never offered any opinion and/or judgement of you in that last post....and certainly have never suggested anything in the least bit negative fired in your direction.....Why my last post inspired your somewhat caustic reply is beyond me and more than a little confusing....My stating I happened to think Rich was a nice guy....was just that, my own personal opinion....does that mean I agree with all of Rich's posts?...Of course not,hell 9 times out of ten we disagree but I happen to like the way he does it.....sue me but I like sarcasm.....especially effective sarcasm! You've said a few times that CA has 32% of the caseload, and it has a per capita rate of 3.69, from what I can calculate. In 2003 CA was # 5 in recipients per capita at 3.005 (DC was #1 at 7.835). With such a huge population, you'd expect CA to be a large contributor to the nation's welfare caseload, especially since housing dumped. I don't feel so inspired as to go and calculate 2009 per capita rates for other states. Even with 32% of the nation's caseload, the number of caseloads is down 47% since the 1996 welfare reforms.
