sadisticpanda -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/1/2006 9:54:21 AM)

<-- is the result of showing up at a BDSM party, that I didn't really want to go to, dressed as the dumbest thing I could think of (and afford to rent, bunny costumes are expensive!).  And having the wife (ex now) yell out... "That's my sadistic panda!"

Its rather hilarious if you ask me -

[Thwap]
Her: "Oh! One Master Ping Ping! Thank you Master Ping Ping. May I have another!"
Me: [Yawn]
[Thwap]
Her:  "Oh! Two Master Ping Ping! Thank you Master Ping Ping. May I have another!"
[...]
Her:  "Master Ping Ping?  Wake up Master Ping Ping!"
Me: [Snore]....  Hehe.

RavenMuse -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/1/2006 10:18:04 AM)

Raven is what I'm called in the real world.... most places on the net 'Raven' has already long gone, so I added 'Muse' given forums and such like thends to be where I share my thoughts and ponderings.

As for screen names, yep they have an effect on the first impression "dicksucker" and other screen names of the like set me thinking the person is likely to only be a "Do me" type rather than someone likely to be looking for the same things that I am. However I will read the mail and make my decision more on the contents than on the screen name.

LordBennett -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/1/2006 10:21:53 AM)

My screen name I had before I came here.  It is my email addy so I have kept it as it would make it simpler to tell someone how to contact me other than here.  Plus they can get a look at my other profile.

I agree with this. Though I do read the profiles and base my opinion on the content, to my great disappointment most that have screen names like 'BigCock4U' etc. live up to my expectations.

MrThorns -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/1/2006 4:03:31 PM)

I chose the name  Mr Thorns about six years ago.  It just seemed to roll of the tongue better than "EvilRatBastidSadisticFuck"... which is one of those cute names that my dear pet uses from time to time....

MasterRenegade77 -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/1/2006 5:28:42 PM)

Mine stems from My gang days 40 or so years ago, I was The Renegade in a band of Renegades... Then I used it as a CB handle  so naturally I tried to use it when I joined AFF years ago... It was taken as was Renegade_69 so I choose MasterRenegade & have used it in one form or another ever since!!!

I tend to have an initial negative impression of indiiduals with the words "lord, master, goddess, slut" and other job descriptions in them. However, it's just an initial off-the-cuff thing. I think I have it because my experiences with those types of handles have been largely negative. Still, there've been enough people I like who use those titles to assure I dont' dissmiss it out of hand.

As for "perverseangelic," well, I started using it in 10th grade when it sounded nifty and so cutting edge. I haven't felt like changing it since. Plus, it mostly suits and it's a bit different than all the other perverts and angels out there.

Well is that also not like judging a book by its cover with out ever bothering to open it up and take a look at it.

Yes I know my nick as Master in  it.  I had wanted just Unknown, but of course that was taken and I have not bothered to look to see if it still is. Since I do have a few freinds on here it is just easier to leave it as it is

So, I guess I'd better rethink my idea of my new screen name of Lord Master LilKittenKitty.

LordIronwolf -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/2/2006 7:56:07 AM)

This has been a very interesting topic indeed. Much info about not only the topic but also why others have the nics they have also.
I have always been Ironwolf or Lord Ironwolf. Been that since My early 20's. I can't see changing it nor would I. I see so many that change their names like socks. I have a hard time trusting anyone that has a zillion nics as many of you have undoubably seen for yourselves online.
I thank you all for the input (or is that output) and the stories behind your names.

ExistentialSteel -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/2/2006 8:27:38 AM)

It can be hilarious, now and then. I once had another name on AOL. It was AlphaSynapse, and many from an online group met at a big party at 1763, a BDSM club in Atlanta. Most on the online group simply called me Alpha as some call me Steel here. Anyway, we weren't the only ones there and everyone had to introduce themselves to the crowd. Let me tell you that I felt pretty silly saying, "Alpha" to everyone in that club.

mantis65 -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/2/2006 9:04:39 AM)

Mantis isn’t a screen name as much a pseudonym it means The PROPHET in ancient Greek.   As well as a inscet eaten alive by his female lover
It suits me

Do the screen names and RT names of those who use them  rejected simply offhand as being a fantasy without looking at who is using it? The ones mentioned were nics used that had the words such as Master or Lord in them. I am sure I do the same thing to an extent as I stay away from emails and profiles with the names kitty, kitten or lil in them.
Any pros and cons on this?
I have been using the nic Ironwolf for more than 20 years. It is a part of what I am.

Welllll <evil grin> I imagine one con for you would be the ladies who avoid those with the word "wolf" in their nik ...

I don't necessarily reject because somebody has given themselves a title .. their writing gives a better insight in character. For believe it or not, there *are* Masters out there. As for feline niks for females, yes there are many of them .. yet perhaps you are not a cat person? <shrugs> just judging from your own nik ;]

I rarely write a person off right away .. I've had some nice conversations with *Masters* and even those who initially wrote me all in caps. At first, I give the benefit of the doubt [welllllll unless it is obvious they are insincere] then if pompousness continues, then yeah probably reject.

As for my name, it is actually a permutation of my first nik ... I have a love of astronomy, and choose the last of the 88 constellations alphabetically in Latin .. vulpecula or in English, littlefox .... yeah, I got tired of being called "little" so to inject a bit of humour, I came up with what I use now. It suits me fine =) and I like it .. even though I *am* a cat person heheh

Have a wonderful day!

FirmhandKY -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/7/2006 11:17:18 AM)

The question seems to me to be more of what impact someone's nick has on you, rather than whether or not you would instantly dismiss someone because of their nick.

I'd say - like everyone has, I believe - that I wouldn't instantly and immediately dismiss someone simply because of a particular nick.

But I have found certain common themes in nicknames.

And, also, remember that a nick IS something you choose to represent yourself.  It isn't something that you were given as a newborn, so you are saying something about yourself with your nick, whether you realize it or not.

I have certain preferences and beliefs (call them prejudices, if you wish), and although I keep an open mind here are some of my gut instincts about certain types of nicks:

"Do me names" ... They are a turn-off for me.  Again, not a value judgement as to the individual worth of the person who choose the name, just not the style of woman I'm looking for.

"Sassy" anything ... I've noticed several correlations between the apparent personality of women who use this, somehow (or who describe themselves this way) that isn't appealing to me.  No, it's not a 100% correlation - but common, so that I read such a profile with a bit of trepidation.

"Bitter" nicks.  No good examples come to mind, but you recognize them when you see them.  I don't want, nor need bitterness in any shape or form in my life.  Bitter names are about regrets, and the past, and not about the future.  Most of the time, the profile tends to support the feelings of caution.

"Master or Mistress or Lord high mucky muck" nicks.  Again, as some have said, not necessarily a negative thing, but I'm always a little cautious around people who seem to consider themselves highly expert in anything - unless their qualifications and my experience directly with them bear that experience out.  Just one of those "prove it to me" kinda people here.  I rarely take on the titles or seek recognization from others for what I've done in life or my career, because I don't particularly care about impressing people much.  I 'm actually just the opposite:  I'd rather appear unassuming and unimpressing, so that I can get up under peoples' radar. Loads more fun that way.  [:D]

"Esoteric" nicks.  Generally, a good feeling.  It usually seems to mean that the person put some thought into their name, and as a collateral, usually they seemed to have put some thought into who they are, and what they want out of life.  Sometimes, however, it's just "being cute" and trying to appear smart and hip.  So, over all, I look with expectations, but wariness.

"Challenging" nicks.  Such as ... I'll just make one up, cause I don't want a flame ...  RUmanENUFF?  My answer, mentally is ... "Yup, sure am.  But you'll never know."   Again ... no slam on a woman who chooses such a name, but the fact is that the first, and most important challenge, I think, is to get to know each other as people, as human beings.  Why start such a conversation with a woman who apparently has a 'tude?

There is a wide variety of other type of nicks, but the ones that really get my attention are the ones that are not only unassuming or demanding, but have some sort of ... dunno the best term ... but artistic or personal meaning to them.  Nicks that conjure up feelings of "likeablity", "femininity", and "familiarity".  Of course, I realize this is a very subjective thing, but "I know 'em when I see 'em".  For a man, something that gets a point across, without being brash and overbearing.

I chose my nickname for the simple reason that it's what my BF calls me.

MistressSassy66 -> RE: Screen names and RT (4/7/2006 11:36:06 AM)

I dont reject someone over just a name.
I will read the profile first,if that doesnt meet what I'm looking for then I
move on.

I picked Mistress Sassy because Sassy is a nic name(from bishop years ago) and Mistress sounded the best with it.

The drawback to the name Mistress can be in the Vanilla world, men sometimes think  I'm a "mistress" for them to cheat on their wives with.

Any pros and cons on this?

*chuckles*  I love when I don't have to re-write on a topic... I posted this on Lit a while back...

Scene name = an alias used by some people in the BDSM lifestyle ("the Scene") to protect their privacy, a name given out to others in the lifestyle in the place of given or "real" names.

In my own case, for many years I used "LordHamiltonZ" as a Scene name. It came about thusly...

I wanted to protect my privacy when I got involved in the scene. I started using a "nom de plume" that I used many times while making up references for papers... Hamilton Zander. I figured I could remember that and respond to it when someone addressed me that way. After a couple of months I wanted something that had an old world flair, so it became Hamilton vanZander which very quickly got shortened to HamiltonZ.

After being involved in a certain circle for quite a while, I was awarded the title "Lord" within that particular group. Because so many people knew me at that point the LordHamiltonZ became the Scene nick, and stayed that way for several years. My involvement in the lifestyle was an issue in my divorce, my right to visit my children was contingent on my not exposing them to this lifestyle and I continued using that Scene name until my children were no longer minors.

Truth be told, I was comfortable in my own skin long before my youngest turned 18. I was itching to get out of the Scene name (which really made me feel silly to use at that point even though I had been using it for years). I was ready to be "out" and once my youngest turned 18, LordHamiltonZ got "retired".

I've been Evil_Geoff ever since, mostly because my real name, just plain, no additives, Geoff, has been locked up and in use on every forum I've ever bothered trying to reserve a name on. Tacking "Evil" on it is a comment about my chosen lifestyle and proclivities as a sadist is not an attemtp to hide my real identity. I use my own pic as my av, who the hell can I hide from??? *grin*

And there, as Paul Harvey likes to say, is the rest of the story.
Yours In Kink,- GeoffThe Dominant Formerly Known As LordHamiltonZ
