We don't wear them at the same time. It would look fruity.

I'd like to visit the odd world in which people keep hijacking, and font sizes, toned down a bit.

allthatjaz,

I experienced the same in my wine club. We were tasting a great but inexpensive Bordeaux trying to analyse the tertiary taste.
"Mineral, definitely"
"Mineral , like in flintstone or like granite?"
"Granite"
"Yes, definitely granite although..."
-long discussion ensues
"OK for granite, but green granite or red granite?" I asked with a serious face and looking at the disbelieving faces around me, I finished my glass in one big gulp.

That was the end of my involvement in oenology

But I still love wines, especially Bordeaux.

Any sub-culture will produce its share of fanatic guardians of the Temple, people who look down at other because others look up at them, people who crave for recognition, people would could not possibly care less and some who alternate between both.

So what? Take the good, leave the best, keep your mask and think your part.

You seems to have put things in the right perspective and I hold my glass to your (mental) health!

Quickie before I leave for work:

Laughing at something isn't necessarily intolerant. I may laugh at someone doing something I find funny, but I don't do so hatefully, and I would defend their right to do their "thing".

Just saying.

Laugh with someone
Laugh at someone

Laughing at someone because of the way they dressed or the way they looked in their fet gear or the way the dominated or the way they submitted would be considered a humiliating laugh, unless they thought you laughing at them was funny too.
A laugh is meant to be shared and not used at someone elses expense.

Maria, when I said "laught at someone" or something, I did not mean in an external way; like Domi said, it's an interior thing. I'm not the nicest person in the world, but I don't try to make others feel demeaned or embarrased (unless they're asswipes, then I can't promise much).

I did! It was sexy time for Level!

I did feel a bit objectified, when a woman in the crowd kept yelling that she wanted to see my nips. I bellowed back, "Wait your turn! Can't you see I'm anally raping what's-her-name?" How rude of her!

That's the problem with public play, everyone is a critic.

I am sure you have lovely nips

Well you can try, but it's not my nature. I'd much rather share a nice glass of something and enjoy my time in Chicago.

What? My kink's not okay? Who are you to disparage my kink? Fuck you! Slut!

Sorry for chopping your post but I love the way you worded this!
I have always hated the pedestal pushes. There are some genuine knowledgeable people that have very modest attitudes on the scene but in my opinion there are too many self promoters.
Michael recently wrote a good post about how to lure in a newbie and I laughed my head off when I read it because it was all about getting people to look up to you. Theres so much of that going on that its like a disease! I always say, 'if you get to the point of believing your the dogs bollocks then you need to remind yourself that away from the scene your nothing special and the scene is actually a very small place.

I have always been a bit rebellious. I remember standing in a club all done up in a beautiful burlesque outfit and looking clearly dominant but after too much attention from male subs I stripped off down to my heels and opera gloves and walked naked over to a suspension guy and asked him to tie me up.
My ex partner went mad and a few others told me 'you can't behave like that, your a Domme and the subs won't respect you'. People were always trying to mold me but they couldn't. I just wanted to have fun and never took any of it too seriously.

Anyway it looks like this topic has reached an end and I would like to say thanks to all those that contributed. The one liners are coming out to play and I'm happy to leave them to it!

If it's one thing I've learned about any sort of BDSM community (here or otherwise) is that the individuals's presence in the community does not immunize them from succumbing to the same worldview restrictions everyone else has. Each individual has different levels to which they are consensually desensitized to viewing things empathetically.

People will laugh at that which seems ridiculous or foreign to them. It is an instinctual reaction, but so is wanting to hump someone whom we find attractive in a public place. It doesn't mean we must give in to our primal instincts.

Good comedy enlightens. It addresses a genuine issue and makes people think. Cheap comedy points fingers because the target falls under something stereotypically silly. And there's no accounting for taste.

It really does take active motivation to scrutinize ourselves in moments when we would react with shocked ridicule and to address the reactions in ways that amount to more than just sweeping all the concerns about it under the rug.

Clever, but a bit off the mark.

Disparaging or critiquing is a far cry from superficial ridicule. We can just as easily excuse actual rape by extending this logic (if even its underlying suggestion was at all meant seriously).

It's okay NZ, you will never know we are laughing at you........oops!

Maria, it was a good discussion. I think most of us had experienced some sort of burnout over something we are passionate about and felt a bit off kilter because of it. You develope a relationship with that passion then, when you remove yourself to a degree, you almost feel as though you should be more lost without it. In times past, you would have been lost without it. Fought to maintain it. So when you feel less so, it can leave you wondering what on earth is wrong with you.

Much like a romantic relationship that, at one time, you thought you would die to lose........then after the passion has faded, you can walk away with only a small sadness, if any. It sounds like your life is full, passionate and wonderfully fulfilling, with no need to mourn what might be lost but instead, embrace what you have now.

You said it better than I could in both those posts Nihilus Zero. To be honest I hadn't even noticed that post but then I always skip over keyboard warriors that like to put themselves over as tough!

I remember taking a friend along to his first fet market. He's a hells angel and he can be pretty intimidating with people who get in his way. We sat at a bar and a cross dresser meandered over and stood too close to him. He turned to me and said 'if that bitch so much as looks my way Im going to kill him'
Years on and he's fully out there and having a good time and it makes me smile seeing how he's changed. He doesn't think anything of a cross dresser giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek and if saw someone pointing or laughing at someone he would embarrass them publicly and for that matter so would I.
The vanilla world will point fingers and laugh. They did it to gays and they will certainly do it to anyone walking through a shopping mall in fet clothing. We have to accept that and that's why most of us only wear fet clothing in fet clubs. Fortunately I have never really come across any sniggering clowns in the real fet community.

There is comedy done done within parameters, understanding how offensive it may be to an audience member.
There is comedy that is done without parameters, understanding how offensive it may be to an audience member but is spoken in order to address a poignant and thoughtful issue.
And then there is comedy done without parameters without the concern or understanding of how offensive it may be to an audience member.

It's something that comes with life in any social group. All it usually takes, though, is to zero in on something a bit more personal to the ridiculing party (everyone has sensitive zones).

Find someone willing to be comfortable mocking a guy in full-on rubber slave garb on all fours at a party...who has a miscarriage in her history, for instance, and you may find that dead baby jokes don't get quite the lenient reaction.
