Per haps a slight bow might have been a nicety.   But- a dramatic bow-- crossed the line.

Hilarious.

Complaining about Liz Windsor as the source of all ills, what with her apparently holding the title to the US, not to mention running the Federal Reserve, whilst simultaneously acknowledging her to be Queen and in possession of a divine right to rule that, although this was resolved to the contrary some centuries ago, should render any such complaint redundant.

Well, considering my ancestral homeland is presently OCCUPIED by the British, Obama should have stepped on her toes.

Instead of asking who he should bow to, the better question to ask might be who shouldn't Obama bow to.

That might narrow it down a bit, and make the question far easier to answer.

Last thing I saw our puppets do on TV was accompanied by Rue Brittania, not our national anthem, I turned the TV off at that point. Wanna buy a TV ? It's nice and dusty, right there in the corner of my baement.

Funny thing is that is no where near the appropriate bow british custom calls for and Michelle Obama completely failed to curtsy. IOW they did not go overboard and if the british press had wanted to they could have made quite a stink about the lack of courtesy shown.

Yes. Even if for no other reason than if he keeps doing this on a regular basis, there'll eventually be a point where Sanity's head explodes in a giant pink mushroom cloud.

Is this in the same way that the native Americans ancestral homeland is OCCUPIED by white Americans?  When are you planning to give that back, I wonder?

The Japanese bow all the time, especially to those with a position of power. Deep bows, deeper than what Obama has ever done. And the Japanese aren't throwing a fits over what their emperor bows too, or the angle of the bows. Seriously, why are people making a big deal out of this?

I think it is always good to err on the side of being respectful to other cultures, it is classy

Exactly, thank you for pointing this out. The bow to the Queen is of the same connotation, a simple and time-honoured gesture of person-to-person respect, and is nothing which should be misconstrued as anything else and/or beaten like the proverbial dead horse. Yes, he should, and why not. Get over it.

Well, he hasn't been so good at bowing to the will of the American people.  Maybe this is a practice step towards that goal.

Seriously though, it is a traditional show of respect.  I don't see a problem with the concept, especially since it's to a woman.  Maybe it's just that old-fashioned chivalry in my soul.

Oh, come off it, PA...  you call this "shoe shining"?    This was a simple courteous bow.  Nothing more.
