So American citizens will be required to prove they're not "illegal," while at the very same time, through the NAFTA program, unlimited numbers of foreign workers from Mexico and Canada are permitted to come here, on one condition, that they take middle-class (i.e. skilled) jobs. And, while our country has an "immigration lottery" through which 55,000 foreigners (and their families) receive immigrant visas annually. (Not to mention the H1B program, and the other immigration programs for skilled worker through which hundreds of thousands of foreign workers and their families are welcomed into this country with open arms).
The government's not trying to curb immigration, and they're not trying to save American jobs -- period. And if they truly wanted to stop "illegal" immigration, they would secure the border. Since they're not securing the borders, the least they can do is refrain from imposing these kinds of measures on American citizens.
Maybe next, we can carry around cards to prove we're not sex offenders. Etc. etc.
Of course this is the way this is going. Heaven forbid the actual fucking employer had to make sure the people he employed were legal. Not that there aren't ways to get around that too. But nothing is going to happen on this as long as the Politicians are beholden to the Monied class for their existence.
Sherrod Brown of Ohio is proposing that we tax all materials coming into this country from China if they are unwilling to allow their currency to float. We need leaders like this that are willing to take on our trading partners and try to make things equitable. The folly that we allow products into this country from China and other countries without a modicum of Quality Control is going to bite us in the ass sooner or later. The Chinese wallboard problem in the South is just one area that has major repercussions. I can promise when that wallboard is finally pulled out of homes(at the homeowners expense not the chinese manufacturer) it will be laden with asbestoes that has been known as a carcinogen in our country for 40 years. All of this so Walmart can advertise with that stupid smiley face........
