I was just poking around on yahoo can came happened on this story: http://news.yahoo.com/video/sanfranciscocbs5-15751300/s-bay-students-wearing-u-s-flag-shirts-sent-home-19586193 Long story short, 5 kids were sent home from a school in San Francisco for wearing American flags to school on Cinco do Mayo. The vice principal said that since the school is 40% Hispanic it might cause a riot. WTF! We can't admit to being proud of being Americans in our own country? We have to worry about that offending people? Call me crazy, but I'm thinking that if someone is that offended by the American flag, maybe this isn't the right country for them. On another note, maybe I'm just a stupid American, but I was under the impression that Cinco de Mayo was a Mexican holiday. I wasn't even aware that all Hispanics are Mexicans...but I guess that vice principal knows better than I do. And before anyone jumps down my throat, no, I am not anti-immigration...or at least not legal immigration. Immigration is one of the things that has helped make the US what it is (and I mean that in the good way).

I saw this also. I can't begin to expressed how pissed off I am at this. Now we have to hide our own flag in our own country so we don't offend anyone? FUCK THAT!

So.... they wanted to show off that they were "real Americans" by committing an illegal act that is actually punishable under federal law? [sm=Groaner.gif] Technically it is illegal to wear an American flag and a flag is defined, by law, as: "Anything "by which the average person seeing the same without deliberation may believe the same to represent the flag." However, the separate issue of the principal trying to avoid a race riot, I can see that as being offensive. Edit: clarity

~FR If you believe wearing a US flag is illegal, you obviously have never been to the beach of a fire work display on the 4th of July. Having said that, i will ask here what i asked on the immigration thread... Why are we giving more recognition to this holiday than the people of mexico?
