ORIGINAL: tazzygirl 650 for each child... plus 500 food stamps. Your math is a bit off. The article you cited says: Four of her five children are citizens and receive a total of about $650 each month from the state's CalWorks program. She also receives about $500 in federal food stamps and other vouchers. My math is spot on...perhaps you should utilize the link you like to post for sylvan since you are the one with a reading comprehension problem. I misread part of that. Im woman enough to own up to my mistakes. Can you say the same? At the time the article was written, the maximum benefit for CalWorks was For a family of 6 - Region One, Exermpt $1,229 Non exempt$1,101 Region Two, Exempt $1,172 non exempt $1,049 No clue what the exemptions mean. And no link in the web site to indicate. If her cash benefits are that low, there must be some income into the household. I personally feel there should be no cash payments of any kind. Welfare was never supposed to be a way of life, it was supposed to be a hand up. A degree can be earned in two years, a certificate in less than that. I have walked many women through the mine field of federal grants and loans in order to get off welfare and find a new lease in life. I really resent the fact that our government feels the need to pay these parents to stay in this country simply because they crossed the boarder illegally to give birth.
