The tennis match is over.  The OP of this thread is more or less a "live and let live" theory of D/s.  Please head more or less in that direction.

Posts like, "You, person X, are a loser," or, "Everyone except me is a loser," are not examples of heading in that direction.

People do stuff 'cause they like it, it feels right or they feel comfortable with it.

Too wordy?

Unstimulating. Bovine. Not conducive of any further thought other than "Yawn! I agree, now let me go back to chewing my cudsies" or perhaps the occasional vindicative "Ha Ha HA HA ha! _THAT_ will teach the lil' WHIPPERSNAPPER for DARING to ask us TOO MANY QUESTIONS!"

Really Sunshinemiss, this was beneath you. It certainly did make you the popular lady, though!

Hello C and R,
I'm sorry you feel that this was beneath me. I actually think it was quite a good response. As I stated in the other thread, it really does come down to what I wrote in my OP. People do what they do because they get something out of it. Sure we all have different reasons... different surface reasons, but it always, more deeply, comes down to what I wrote in my OP. Just because something is simple doesn't mean that is without depth.

If there was no further discussion, that is not because of me. Bita did bring up a point about doing things because of duty and such, and I brought it back to ... sounds like they are getting something positive out of it... (that includes the absence of the guilt they would feel if they changed their behavior)

There is absolutely a time for self - examination. Absolutely. And there is also a time for saying it just *is*.

While my thread was in direct response to S.N's, and it certainly was tongue in cheek to some degree, this idea has been on my mind for awhile. Thread after thread examining things, all the angst, the searching. People are getting so caught up in Help me! or I'm confused! or Please explain!

There was a time when I enjoyed the kind of intellectual discourse that some of the folks are having. Up to a point I still enjoy it, and then I'm done. I'm not going to split hairs. I have neither the time nor the patience for that any more. What bothers me is the ugliness and personal attacks that I have seen. I don't believe I have attacked anyone or been rude to them. I've participated up to the point where it was *no longer fun for me*.

And as for saying I've insulted people in the manner bolded above, I ask you to point out where I did that. It's generally not my style, and if I did do that, then I will offer my sincere apologies.

Best,
sunshine

Sunshinemiss,

i read CaringandReals words as a very fine form of irony, because you took it serious i have to rethink that.

Maybe CaringandReal can enlighten me.

Your OP seemed to me simply beautiful, especially together with BTs extension words.

The unexamined life is not worth living. - Socrates

The Symposium is my sentimental favorite Socratic dialogue.  People sit around, drinking insane amounts of booze, and argue about lust and love.  Socrates (who would have won every drinking game my frathouse ever had, hands down) cracked jokes and was vaguely lascivious.  Later, Alcibiades (spoiled rich kid, badass soldier, gorgeous traitor, all round stud) broke down the door with his entourage and spent much of his night making a fool of himself making drunken passes at Socrates.  The sequel, which was entitled "Alcibiades and Pausanius Engage in 'Discourse' While Aristophanes Watches From the Closet" was deemed "too hot" for the masses and the only known copy (complete with engravings) to survive is currently in the sock drawer of a don at Balliol College.

What people are trying to explain is that discussions need not be arid, barren, and devoid of all colour and texture.  Not everything is a matter of life or death.  Not every discussion is a discussion of First Causes.  I mean for the love of God, man, I am the most pompous, bombastic son of a bitch you'll ever (not) meet and the posts about which people are complaining (I take care to mention no names though I may repeatedly incline my head toward a particular party) suck the life out of me.  Yes, me.

Unfortunately, I think this is lost on the one that will not be mentioned until he chooses to experience life.

Btw, are you almost done building the time machine? I want to go to a symposium, though we are going to have to work on my male drag as I'm not attending as a Hetera ;-)

That doesn't really make any sense.

Reading ancient philosophy is in fact one element of experiencing life. Especially, I imagine, if you live in Bosnia.

The detractors (including the OP) are precisely the ones not reading it, which limits any depth of conversation.

I think SN's theory of types is pretty decent. The subtlety is as much in how you read it, as in how it's written.

Firstly, I think you totally misinterpreted OA's post. Completely, totally. Secondly, you have made some massive assumptions about the OP, sunshinemiss, which I can guarantee you are false.

There's nothing there to interpret one way or another.

I also call into question anyone who recommends Ayn Rand as an intellectual compass.

This thread will not descend into personal attack.  We had enough of that last night.  Anyone who had posts removed yesterday would be advised to proceed with caution.

But first you must have a life to examine?

What's the use of examining if there are no experiences worth reflecting on or learning from? You can spend your whole life theorizing (sp?) or you can get out and experience it, then reflect and examine reality... or you can waste your life just thinkin' 'bout stuff.

I have, at times, wished that I could just turn off my analytical side and simply 'be'. If I could do that I might enjoy life more.

Yeah me too. I think way too much, but it doesn't stop me from also experiencing and laughing.

Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest I'm not enjoying life! But sometimes I am jealous of the blithe folk!

Yeah but appearances can be deceiving and I wasn't suggesting anything about you personally, really more in keeping with the thread's tone.

I don't know Celeste... that sure sounds like "it feels right" over here.... *smooch... how is the move btw? I been missing you!

Rabble rouser!

/highjack

Ugh, we've been living in "corporate housing" which is a fancy way of saying in a crackerjack box that doesn't have insects. Seriously, 350 square feet, $3000 a month. Unreal. Milan is so freakin' expensive! That said, the company has picked up the tab for it so we have taken the money we normally would have had to use for rent or mortage and have traveled around a bit. Took a day trip to Switzerland last weekend which is not as exotic as it may sound because we're only 45 mins to the border but the Swiss Alps are amazingly beautiful and was an energy recharger that we both needed (plus I won 47 ch - that's francs- at the Casino Lugano! Go me! (Okay, it's only about 40 bucks USD but it was on the nickle machines! lol)

Other than that, you know.. we're pretty boring so same ol' same ol' although I must say without the Internet, I haven't had a lot to do except clean (which takes about 15 mins a day in this small place.. plus, there's a maid - not a very good one, but still!) and practice my Italian which has gotten fairly passable and I think Himself is pleased with my diligence and progress in my study. He has learned how to say *pizza* and *spaghetti* properly, but that's about it. ::grins:: I still haven't found butternut squash ravioli, but I have a lead on a place so the hunt is on!

Moving into our new condo on June 2nd (have no idea how long it will take to get Internet this time but Himself has said he refuses to live without television any longer so he's getting something called Sky or Skybox which I guess is a dish network type of thing here and hopefully, Internet won't be far behind. It's just a matter of getting through the red tape and in Italy, there is red tape for EVERYTHING. It's so different from Portugal where the entire staff speaks English to come to Italy where only a few people speak so he's hired a PA to translate for him.

Big plus - His office is only about 20 mins a day instead of three hours right now and the new condo is actually within walking distance so that means I get him 3 more hours a day than I had him in Portugal so I am super excited to get my Master back during some actual daylight hours! :D Okay, highjack over!! Yer still a rabble rouser though. ;)

WAIT!!  Milan?? When did that happen?  *feels clueless* Last I knew, ya'll were in Portugal!!

to Sunny.. I loved the op, and agree with you.. life is for LIVING!!  Feel it, live it, EXPERIENCE it!! LEARN!! ENJOY!!  Have no regrets!

We moved here on April 3, so, almost two months.. most of that spent without the Internet! I love it here. 45 mins to the Swiss border, less than 3 hours to Monte Carlo, France, Austria, Liechtenstein and San Marino.. travel opportunities galore and my Italian is WAY better than my Portuguese so even though I haven't found any natas here at all, I'm in heaven! ::laughs::

Asia is definitely on the bucket list but we missed our trip to Egypt because of the move so that's first. lol Himself has a three week vacation in August so the plan, right now and subject to change is to go to the states for a week to visit my Parental Unit and the rug rats and grand rug rats then 5 days in Egypt and the last week come back to Milan and hopefully get a few days in Rome and maybe a day in Venus with a few days to spare to recover from it all!
