quote:
Ok. Treasure: How many government offices have you been to where you see employees standing around, gossiping, doing their nails, etc. with long lines of people waiting to be seen? MM: None. Maybe people in Kentucky are different. Couldn't say. Possible interpretations: 1. You've never been to Kentucky ("Couldn't say"), yet you wish to imply to Treasure that the "employees standing around" are restricted to only her experience, and only in Kentucky. Problems: Treasure isn't from Kentucky. She spent 13 months there at my behest, and hasn't lived there for a few years now. Treasure has been very politically active, in the past, at the local level. Not in Kentucky, however. Some of Treasure's jobs over the years have been focused in fields in which she has had great interaction with civil servants. You admit to having no experience with Kentucky civil servants. Your words seem to claim that you've never had any experience with civil servants doing less than providing the absolute best of service to you, or anyone you are acquainted with. 2. hmmm ... any other interpretation of your comments seem to escape me. Help me out here? Wow. You're an idiot. Despite your unjustified leaps in "logic," the entire intention is that the girl's post is an exaggerated stereotype based on popular myth rather than reality. Now, your girl is a smug, defensive creature who never lets anything go (unless she goes to get you to handle it), so it's not hard to see something like "Really? I see _______ all the time." Hence, adding that I'm not going to try to debate the world through her experience where she lives, but that here, it's just not the case. In fact, there's been a successful concerted effort here for the past several years to improve people's experience at the state level--the DMV, amazingly to those of us who remember how it was, runs quite well, with short lines and excellent service. From that, she jumps to an imagined dig at Kentucky. And now you, though you can be quite balanced, have blinders on when there's a bug up your ass. Your gratuitous insult (and silly--civil servant?) added aside, that's the reality. Get your defensive knickers in a knot if you've nothing better to do, but you're defending yourself and your girl against nothing but your own mental creations. That seems to be happening with some frequency on various threads, incidentally.
