Why does something miraculous have to happen when we die? Who started this notion?

I don't think you started it.  But I think you may have touched on it when you stated up at the top of this page that it doesn't give some people much peace to know they'll just rot after death, so cling to the hope that there's an after-life....a continuance or step up from where we are now so its not such a bad thing to welcome, than rotting after death.  Don't know, though.  If you've ever watched a show like the Joel Osteen show, he truly has faith there's a God that has not only mapped out the good and the bad in our life already, but he's waiting to welcome us to that nirvana called heaven.  And the catholics teach you that you'll go to hell if you do certain things, so you just. don't. do. them.  I guess it just boils down to what you want to believe.  What comforts you?  I don't know.

Incorrect.
And those of you that had goldern love notes from cm know that.
Although the omelete did sound good.

I haven't even checked my mail.

That omelet sounded gross.

Well maybe you should and then you wouldn't give out incorrect information.
I might try that omelet later myself.

Seems like it's all straightened out then. And Moonhead is free to see ALL the faith argument that she wants.

I will start this notion:

In theology it is appropriate to extrapolate from the physical to the spiritual, especially where it concerns the pagan gods. Theology was instituted to study the pagan gods. As on Earth, so in 'Heaven'.

In the time of the pagan gods, perhaps up to a couple of centuries ago, for some worthy people there was physical life after death, even after many deaths. Thus, extrapolating to the spiritual, we must assume that even though there is no physical afterlife these days, there yet is a spiritual afterlife. As to the shape of this spiritual afterlife, that is anyone's guess - but I do remark that nothing in our universe is wasted, that everything in some way is reused. It would be incongruous if our minds are the only stuff in our universe that is not recycled and reused.

I used to think that you were destined to rule all of mankind and lead us all to salvation or our collective doom. You are moving too slow. We cannot wait for ever. What in the fuck are you waiting for?

I can see that I, as a somewhat super genius, am going to be forced to gather in the reigns and lead a rag tag bunch of warriors towards their destiny.

Given that it hasn't even been discussed yet, this statement is a premature attempt to knock it out of the water without even hearing what my idea of it is.

Please, the last idea you had was to actually bake a napkin directly into the hot dog bun.

I have not the patience to stomach your shit any longer.

How come when you claim super-genius-ness I can accept that, but when rule does I just laugh?... see, these are the questions that science fails to answer for me....

Good luck with that. However, it is wiser to climb up through the ranks as there will be less opposition.

Best strategies are:
1. Become an industrialist and become wealthier than anybody else, or
2. Become a banker and become wealthier than anybody else.

Becoming a general and conquering the world is possible, but improbable.

To accept a super-genius requires faith as an anosognosiac is unable to recognize super-genius.

An anosognosiac will instantly judge anything a super-genius says to be wrong.

A super-genius is not just weird, but weirder than anyone can imagine.

Dude. why are you so reluctant to fill your birthright?...You allow a sexually transmitted disease or two thwart your destiny?

I would only expect such behavior from a genius never a super genius. Do we need to have another super genius intervention?

Get back on that fucking horse and ride!!!

Wouldn't it also be possible for an anosognosic to believe himself to be a super-genius?

Theoretically?

My Aunt, Dommeaunt, suffered from a form of anosognosia...She was confident that her left tit was not her own. When asked who's tit it was it she would always proclaim it was Katie Couric's.

Very odd.

On at least 3 different occasions between this thread and julia's, I made the statement that there is a valid argument for faith as opposed to reason as a belief system, but that I wasn't going to supply both sides of this debate.

C'mon BS, we had people adamantly denying that they even HAVE a belief system. How can this be debated, when we couldn't even get that much established?

Who me??? No way man, I don't have a single belief, don't try to tell me that I do, cuz then you're gonna tell me that I have faith, then you're gonna tell me that I gots me some religion...no way man....fuck you, don't try to tell me I have a belief. I only gots me some thoughts...thoughts that can be proven by my rational evidence..

Please.

Hell, I could argue either or both sides of this mess, and if I thought it was going to be productive, I would; but it's not, so I won't.

It was mentally stimulating at first, and it gave me alot of food for thought, much of which came from some of your arguments and the arguments of some of the theists as well. But at this point, it's old and boring.

I'm officially retiring from this thread.

Really!

I swear to God! No pun intended.

So lets say your version is accurate, which I don't agree with but let's grant it anyway.  How is this worldview any more objectionable than one of faith and belief?

The whole point of the thread is that one determines the tenets of a religious persuasion based on its doctrine.  Atheism has no doctrine, so how can one who finds the position flawed in premise possibly be in a position to describe what an atheist thinks?  And why do they keep doing it?  Like say... you... here... right now?

The most egalitarian thing you can say is that what we think is equally as whacko as any religious doctrine.  I'd settle for that.

Are you trying to argue that atheism is not the idea that there is no god?

Words have to have some sort of meaning, you know.

I could argue that but it would probably be painful for everyone.  All I was saying there was, show me the "good book" of atheists and I'll tell you what they "believe".

People have cited the dictionary definition of atheist to mean a person who believes there is no God.

And I don't give a fuck what you "could" argue, I am asking you a direct question - if the definition of atheist is not a person who believes there is no God, what is the definition of atheist?
