Do you know how remote and vast some of California's lands are? It takes equipment on the level of what the military uses in Afghanistan to penetrate them, and we have law enforcement die every year doing so. I would suggest you learn something about it before being so flippant. We have a literal occupation happening in California of land that was so wondrously wild and clean it would make anyone awe struck. It is being deforested and degraded so that people who want to smoke cigarettes and drink booze can have their vices while keeping others from theirs... oh happiness and joy! To be honest, I find it rather ironic that a smoker would "worry" about the health impacts of pot... seriously ironic

A LOT of them are going to lose their jobs in November because of this issue and they should.

If you wish to be naive enough to believe this cant be stopped at the federal level, then please, by all means, be so. The "war on drugs" has been unsuccessful because its profitable for it to be so... when it stops being profitable to look the other way, then it will end.

Okay,it appears you are serious.....Area 51 lies within Nellis Air force Base....Air Force Base's have security.....secure and secret area's within a secure air force base have uber security. Do you really think this can be replicated along our vast common border with Mexico....besides were they to tell you what sort of security is in place at Area 51....they would simply have to kill you....or as servant suggests....just shoot you [:D]

They fly the scientists and technicians in and out each day from Las Vegas in two planes that are unmarked. And they showed one of the signs that said you can be shot on sight! And that's a large area there, 100-200 miles in circumferance. Whatever they're using to detect intruders I don't think "distance" is a hindrance!

popeye wants to tie up 30,000 troops to protect 1969 miles of border, much of which uninhabitable terrain. Lord knows what the cost might be to build roads, the fence, the barricades, the housing and then to pay the "30,000 troops necessary" He is fiscally conservative ya know!!! He compared the 1969 miles of the US/Mexico border to the 160 mile border shared by North and South Korea. Interesting analogy. Poor pops, now that Lou Dobbs is no longer ranting about illegals he is left to his own devices and can only muster up the comparison of equating our border problems with those plaguing North and South Korea. Wow!! I don't think Lou Dobbs or Howie Carr would approve.

Better yet why don't we just legalize marijuana as it is obvious that anyone who wants it can get it and it has been proven to be not really any more harmful than alcohol. Then we can spend the cash from the taxation and profits of the pot industry to build the fence and support the 30,000 troops.

I need to offer a disclaimer first please. I'm in mind-meld lust with a few of the posters here...vincent and aphotic, are in my opinion spiking the right vein. (forgive me if I left some of the others out. These two came to mind) Give it up! We are not going to contain the border and stop dem dere "illegals" from coming over to America, "the land of the free and the brave!" America will have a Hispanic president within the next 100 years. Hispanics will outnumber "others" in how long??? You do the friggin math. Spanish will officially be a 2nd/1st language. "They" can stop a fruit fly from entering America, "the land of the free and the brave," and "they" can't stop the cocaine train. Uh-huh! Americans love drugs! The situation is one of economics....baseword-- "money!" "The world is flat!" Get over it!...Ain't no clicking your heels Dorothy and chanting "there's no place like home." Aunty Em is in Cancun.
