No one is saying they "can't" build a Mosque or worship, it's the affiliation with the nations first attack on native soil and the incredible loss of life that has many protesting.

Lisa

Any Native American walking past ANY kind of church must probably feel the same thing, huh?

Don't conservatives ever get tired of pissing their pants in fear?
Don't you ever get tired of painting half the country with the same brush?

Commies, Moozlims, Mexicans, Homos...is there anything that doesn't terrify them?
Moozlims? How can I take someone seriously when they type shit like that.

One wonders whether the debates might have included a few words about the threat posed by worldwide terrorism had it then existed.

What, you mean like the terrorist insurgents who kicked the British out of their American colonies, you mean?

Well damn, no shit. A bunch of terrorists, eh? And here I thought the war was fought by the uniformed Continental Army, which was authorized by the Continental Congress and supplemented by local state Militias under control of the individual States.

There were insurgents involved as well as the uniformed army. Sorry I didn't make it clear that was who I meant.

Best post of the month. I was wondering the same thing.

I wish you well.

They're also afraid God is an impotent, incompetent boob who continually needs them to step in to set things right.

I think it is not appropriate myself but I don't blame Obama or any New York politician...I blame the church itself... they should have know the uproar it would cause and could have settled elsewhere with no problems. They purposely choose this site and it is a slap in the face of the victims relatives.

It have never occurred to you that they might be building their religions center as a sign of support for the victims and their families. That the 9/11 attacks is a appealing to most Muslims as it is to other Americans and that they wish to build a place of worship nearby to honor those that died and as a testament to peace against violence?

I wish you well.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: Obama Makes Clear His Support for Mosque in near 9/11 (8/15/2010 9:03:31 AM)

tazzygirl...my mistake, thanks for the correction.    I was thinking it was the first "terrorist attack on our soil", before I write something I need to make absolutely sure it is accurate :)   Pearl Harbor could have been called an act of terror, without stretching things too far, for sure.

Thanks,

Lisa

Use your common sense. No one would have said a word if the Mosque had been built before 9/11. Which explains why the Pentagon probably has a Mosque in it. 9/11 is a sacred site now, and it is completely disrespectful to build a mosque that looks down on this sacred site. Now if it were a 2 story Mosque, I doubt anyone would say a word, but this Mosque is of such magnitude that it seems obvious to people with common sense that it is purposely making a statement. Think about it. The Twin towers a symbol to America's capitalism is destroyed. But a Massive Mosque, looking down on the site will now be the sacred site.

First off all do not delude yourself, even if the Muslims built a prayer blanket store the size of a broom closed near ground zero would result in outcry. The conservatives waste no opportunity to bash Muslims, after all if they do not support the idea that Muslims are the ENEMY so everyone should be scared shirtless of them pepole might start questioning their politics.

Secondly, what statement do you think the Masque is saying? I think it is a symbol of community, peace and Spiritual pursuit, is that a bad statement? I assume you see another statement in it than me.

I wish you well.

Nephandi,

If that were true, then they should pay attention to the families who lost loved ones.  I was trying to find a reference on Google, showing how many of the 9/11 families were for or against this building...but was unable to find anything but personal blogs or opinions.   If anyone knows the petition numbers, please feel free to post them here, I would love to know :)

According to personal opinions, more were against then for.

Lisa

Ok let me ask you a question. I do not know if you are a member of a religion. But if you where and some extremist group associated with your religion killed a bunch of pepole. Laster your religion wanted to build a Church near the place where the tragedy took place, would you think yourself in error? Do you think you should then move the project somewhere else to placate people's fear prejudice that every member of your religion where responsible for the tragedy?

I wish you well

It means submission on many levels. Mohammed to Allah. Muslims to Mohammed (esp during his lifetime), and to Allah.
Women to men.

Infidels to Muslims, at least insofar as the dhimmi.

And that's the spin, isn't it. Just like when Christians figure out it's OK for them to attack.

There is a religious war, no doubt, and it does spring in part from 9/11. It is not, however, an Islamic initiative, but rather the conservative Christians, especially in the southern states, seizing the opportunity to march to their agenda of a Christendom not essentially different than Urban II's vision of crusade.

Osama bin Laden and his organization, after all, are as much or more against Saudi Arabia as the U.S. Hardly an Islam/Christian thing.

Islam also translates as peace. Perhaps if a few so-called Christians could find and submit to God they could find some peace too.

Why would Christians want to try that?

God gave mankind free will. Free Will is a corner stone of Christianity.

Cool. Anything goes.

It's what Christianity is all about, right?

Get rid of those inconvenient commandments, fire that incompetent messiah, and get some people who know what's what running the show!

We're going to need a new word. Self-righteous just seems insufficient to such arrogance.

Well, at least you admit you're not even pretending to try and follow God.

So let's call it what it is--a Christian-conservative/Arab war.

And conservative Christians are just as much marching against their own country to push their views, Constitution be damned.

I thought the Oklahoma bombing a terrorist attack, or was that some disgruntled white guy ?

Kirata -> RE: Obama Makes Clear His Support for Mosque in near 9/11 (8/15/2010 10:43:25 AM)

Christians are not called upon to "submit" to God, nor are they called upon to "submit" to His laws...

They are called upon to love God, and to do His will because they love Him.

Why can't they build the Mosque, without the hype and connection to 9/11??  If it's all about religious freedom, truly, this would make sense.  No one is saying they "can't" build a Mosque or worship, it's the affiliation with the nations first attack on native soil and the incredible loss of life that has many protesting.

Lisa

It seems to me the hype isnt coming from those that want to build the mosque, but those against it.

Will they be starting anytime soon?
